Between not liking DK64 and thinking that new DK design just gets uglier and uglier the more I look at it this game's a hard pass for me. Hopefully it doesn't take too much longer to get a new 2D entry and they don't use this digital vomit of a character design in it.

This was the reveal of the show for me, it's been a very long wait for a new 3D Donkey Kong and this looks exceptional

I'm really surprised they didn't show a new 3D mario but this is pretty cool too. I hate that my brain now associates this DK design with Seth Rogan though.

It's been over 11 years. This must be second longest time between new DK releases, only beaten by the time gap between Donkey Kong 3 and Donkey Kong 94.

So cool! The game looks so great and I like how fantastical the environments and world look. Pretty excited to see what’s in it, definitely the highlight of the Direct for me.

Seems from this and what Mario Kart World showed that DK will be using a new design, but I don’t mind! He looks silly and I love it

Was expecting Odyssey 2 but this is pretty much the second best thing.

Price increase of NS2 games to 80eur in Europe for physical games? Mario Kart World is tagged at 90eur in Europe for the physical version. I'm out of words.

Thought this was Odyssey 2 for a moment. I thought this looked okay, honestly didn’t seem like much other than a bunch of smashing to me. Hopefully I am wrong but I got a feeling this might be a disappointment.

This was rumored like last year, but glad it’s finally coming. I’m assuming this was made by the odyssey team. If so that’s awesome, definitely has a similar vibe. Hope it’s a meaty game!

Huge surprise, but in a good way. I knew there were rumours for a long time about EPD developing a new DK, but I didn't think they were true (I'm guessing EPD is handling it). 3D, with Splatoon/Mario/Jungle Beat-like aesthetics but cartoonier... kinda reminds me of Crash Bandicoot. And I do like DK's new design. It's as if they took DK64 and combined it with Jungle Beat. And "Bananza" is a silly title, but I can deal with it.

Turns out DK is going to be the launch platformer for Switch 2, not Mario. Actually excited for this one...

Looks good but wanted Mario. The 2D sections reminded me that I suck at DK games. Don't like paying $70 to be stuck 20% into the game. Mario games always make the difficult parts optional and/or post game.

Now this was a surprise. I was fully expecting 3D Mario to be the closer (did it get internally delayed AGAIN?), but 3D DK is fine too. Really has vibes of those mining games on mobile, but as a AAA open world game. Should be interesting.

This here stole the show for me. I have been waiting so damn long for a proper "open" 3D Donkey Kong game. To me, based on what little could be seen, the way DK controls is remiscient of Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction...and that has me VERY interested. Just being able to control DK as this huge power house in a huge interesting world....UGH. I can't wait to have this one.

@OorWullie Agreed. The visual design aesthetics in particular, and even the music (assuming it's actually from the game), all just scream Mario Odyssey. That's a good thing. I also like DK's refreshed character design. He looks more like a cartoon character from the golden age of cartoons (1930s-1950s), replete with greatly exaggerated expressions, especially in his eye movements. I love it.

@Lizuka Genuine question, do you have an actual reason to not like this design? So far it just seems like you don't like it just because it's different and that's not very good criticism.

I would love to say something differently but I HATE the art style. I mean, gameplay looks super fluid and modern (a bit too much going on maybe imo) but this neon look, terrible faces and ugly 3D Movie grimaces are just not my thing. People were right to worry from the first Mario Kart trailer, I so do not like the direction this is going and I LOVE DK so much 😢

Ugh, that purple snow level 🙄 … though I must admit the gameplay looks like it could make up for the style

This is the only thing that could possibly get me more hyped than a new 3D Mario game. A 3D Donkey Kong game made by the Mario team. Guaranteed to be an absolute banger. And I love DK's redesign. This game looks amazing.

Many things in this trailer remind me of Super Mario Odyssey. It's very likely it's the same development team. I don't have issue with the redesign, what I know is, DK can surely pack more punch than Mario, literally here.
The visuals look very stylized, like if it was originally a Switch 1 game but then turned into a Switch 2 exclusive, making the most of the new hardware features.

This one has me intrigued. I don't like that many of the enemies seem to be anthropomorphized rocks with googly eyes, like really? Just bring back the Kremlings dammit!

Love it! Wish there was a two player mode so I can play it together with my partner but other than that it's beautiful 10/10

@nocdaes Sadly, I couldn’t agree more. I buy Nintendo consoles for the 1st party games. Not really interested in ports of existing titles and party games that allow me to see myself balancing koopa shells on my head

Honestly, I agree with the opinion that this is genuinely more intriguing than a new 3D Mario would've been. This is going to sound like sacrilege to some of you, but we've kinda gotten.....oversaturated with Mario as of late. I mean, in the past two years alone, we got remasters of both Super Mario RPG AND Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and Mario and Luigi: Brothership. And don't forget, we still have Mario Kart World to consider.

I'd say the plumber has more than earned the right to rest his platforming laurels for a little while and let the Banana Slamma have his turn in the spotlight.

This, the duskbloods and MP4 @ 4k 60fps were the highlights for me, hyped!

Bout freaking time! I was starting to think DK went off to that Banana boat in the sky. He definitely needed it more than Mario.

It's design looks similar to the design of Odyssey, I assume its developed by the same team and could be another reason for then skipping Characters like the Kremlings and the enemies from the Retro-Studios games

Some parts look very Mario, but there were things with googly eyes that looked straight out of a Rare game. On the other hand, the pace of the game seems much more intense than any Mario game. Having fully destructible environments looks really fun. There was an ostrich, possible animal buddy. A stage that was a blatant DKC1 homage. And I do like that they went full cartoon with DK, lots of slapstick.

There were several ape/monkey characters (Kongs?), and I am NOT concerned by the lack of Rare-made characters, to put it succintly. I love those characters, but I can have a game, even multiple games, without them.

Very fresh, very vibrant, very nice stuff, the most refreshing take on DK in a long time. Really good feelings about this one.

The Animal Buddies are back, but it seems their going back to the baddies from Jungle Beat instead of the Kremlings which... eh, makes sense given the team.

@Theghostofkeithmoon Yeah, I wouldn't expect this to be a graphical showcase. A gameplay showcase? Definitely. But visually, I guess they're reserving the Pixar-like visual potential for a 3D Mario game, maybe.

Donkey Kong looks SOOOOO much better here than in Mario Kart World. Like, this is almost like a THIRD design at this point. I still PREFER the DKC version, but I'd happily play with this version!

Looks absolutely wild and bananas. The last game like that, Jungle Beat from 20 years ago, was something I loved. I thought this was a 3D Mario game first based on the enemies, but then I saw the Diddy-like monkeys.

However, I'm afraid they're shafting the Kremlings yet again by having villainous Kongs similar to Jungle Beat. King K. Rool might as well join Wart and Tatanga in the Hall of Forgotten Video Game Villains, even after Smash Ultimate. But it's still early. Seeing the ostriches makes me hope for Expresso to show up, so there should be more animal buddies. The whole Kong family should be here.

DK seems a bit too goofy here but the gameplay looks really good. I would definitely buy it.

Hoo boy this one got me. The best news of the direct for me, back of the bus Mario kart and Metroid. This is a crunchy looking 3d DK, I loved all the smashing. It’s pretty much hulk ultimate destruction as a Kong. I’m going to celebrate with crunchy peanut butter on a banana sandwich!

This was the game for me. Finally a new 3D DK game, and it looks marvelous. Surprised to see this instead of a new 3D Mario. I have to get used to the new DK design, but other then that it looks amazing.

At the beginning of the trailer, I thought the game was going to be called Donkey Kong Destroys the World.

Not a fan of the art direction, but it looks like a pretty beefy game.

Why no Kremlings or animal buddies? Seriously the DKC world/characters did it best. Why can't they bring those back?

I’m not crazy about the art style, and I’m still not sold on DK’s redesign. But I have to imagine this will be one of the first games I buy for the Switch 2. The gameplay looks like it could be fun!

It's nice for the ape to finally get out of the 2D space for once. Definitely checking this out soon. My only issue is that there's not enough bananas seen in the trailer otherwise the game looks fantastic.

After the first direct (Not the Switch 2), I was wondering if Donkey Kong would ever get another game and that the only thing we would see was Samus. Man oh man feels good to be wrong. This and Kirby. They are doing too much with Kirby and it is great. Sheesh Definitely putting them on the list

I'm not even that big into Donkey Kong games, but this was the star of the show. I'm getting Mario Odyssey vibes.

The best part of this trailer was that at first you think it's a new 3D Mario and then that wall starts breaking down.
Also the fact that you can dig/break/grab most of the terrain is insane! This could be really innovative for the genre.

I didn’t like dk64 find collectathons about as unfun as it can get. This looks like it might be okay though.

I've been dreaming about this for years. Nintendo using other platforming mascots at the spotlight of 3d gaming. Playstation had 5 with Crash, Spyro, Sly, Jak, and Ratchet, 6 now with Astro Bot. Nintendo taking a page from them. And while they did try with DK 64 and Wario World. Kirby and the Forgotten Land and this are the them taking it for real. Point being you don't need to lean on Mario for everything.

One thing about DK's new look, it's giving me some serious Donkey Kong Jr. vibes.
Jr. being the son of the original Donkey Kong. The original DK supposedly is also Cranky Kong the grandfather of Donkey Kong in the Donkey Kong Country series.
While I doubt this is the case, it would be interesting if this bridged the gap.

I am thrilled beyond words over us FINALLY getting a new Donkey Kong 3D game and have been waiting such a long time for this. It looks amazing but my biggest question is where are Diddy and Dixie?

Rampage vibes with the destruction aspect

My favourite DK game is Jungle Beat. This oozes the same sort of chaotic vibe. Lot's of pounding!(Which is what you want from a gorilla!) I utterly love it. How anyone can say this looks like a Switch game is beyond me. Everything is so expressive.

Seems like a self-own to do all this in the midst/wake of the Donkey Kong expansion at the theme parks though.

3D Donkey Kong game it looks incredible.
İ have played 3 Donkey Kong games in total and all 3 was incredible. Donkey Kong Country on the Super Nintendo, Donkey Kong Country Returns on the Nintendo Wii and Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze on the Nintendo Switch.
After the 3D Donkey Kong game on the Nintendo 64 Donkey Kong 64. Now there is new 3D Donkey Kong game coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 and it looks incredible.
