Figure the biggest difference is Switch 1 having load screens and Switch 2 being seamless.

Ahh, the trees & forest look more proper with switch 2 - to me, that was the weakest part of the switch version. Thanks for sharing, @JaxonH!

It's impressive, isn't it?

We're about to have a Nintendo hybrid handheld with perceived graphics and performance that at least lands in the ballpark of current power consoles. Not as good, but close enough. Gone are the days of massive downgrades and "I recommend any platform other than Switch". Im sure the ideologues will still say that over the most insignificant of downgrades, but for most people it's hard to tell a difference.

Do we know if we can upgrade our current copy/price yet? I bought $ low in anticipation of this type of upgrade.

@WoomyNNYes thank you - I tried searching and couldn't find anything on my end. I was hoping that I had missed something.

I'm worried they won't offer an affordable Upgrade Pack since they've already offered such steep discounts for the Switch 1 version. I got my digital copy for an amazing deal, and I'd hate to see them only offer the Switch 2 version full price.

I seem to remember the direct mentioning people with the nso expansion pack would have free switch 2 upgrades.

I wonder if that’s all of them (this one included) or just the Zelda ones.

They merely said the upgrade packs for the two Zelda titles would be included free for NSO members. Definitely not all. Though I'm sure others will be added over time.

And we don't know which 3rd parties are offering upgrades. It sounded like Civilization VII is so maybe Hogwarts Legacy will too.

Nice. I'll scoop up all the NSW2 upgrades. Repurchasing the games is a bridge too far. But tossing a tenner to bring Switch titles into the modern age? Without question.

@JaxonH Days are not gone with the massive downgrades. A new PlayStation and Xbox will be here before you know it. How do you think those games are going to run on the Switch 2 when they get ported? Nintendo loves to release these new consoles a little over halfway of the current gen cycle. Good strategy for those getting burnt out and wanting something fresh, but it bites them harder in the long run with the games looking and running poorly.

I’d say it works out for them, keeps the new hardware more affordable when they do release it, but still comparable to the “current” consoles in terms of performance.

I have about 20 hours in this one on Switch, just dropped it again due to the annoying load times and the blurry textures. I'm pretty forgiving, but it's just too much.

I'm very tempted to give this another shot on Switch 2, at least after I'm done pouring 100 hours in MK World lol

Lazz

@rallydefault I have held off on playing it, waiting for the SW2 version…hopefully the cost to upgrade is $20 or less (given that I bought this on deep discount). I don’t want to deal with the load times.

@JaxonH @Eel @Lazz (just tagging anyone above that wondered if we'll have to rebuy the game or have an upgrade charge. There's no upgrade option.

For Switch 2 Hogwarts, you'll have to buy the whole game. They explain it in the first 30-ish seconds of this nintendo of america youtube. Are they BS'ing us? "We're going to use next gen assets". They make it sound like they don't already have a ps4, series S, etc, version to use for porting.

Obviously there will always be some games that are simply too much but the gap is closing at an exponentially increasing rate.

The system hasn't even launched and we're already seeing a competent version of Cyberpunk 2077, one of the hardest games to run not just on last gen consoles but current gen as well. When Switch released, there's no way it could have ran one of the most demanding PS4 games (let's say, Monster Hunter World) without excessive perceived visual compromise, and that's assuming it could even run at all.

So I stand by my statement because the vast majority of games will run, and even when the next generation of power consoles release, the gap is going to appear virtually non-existent. Which means games aren't really going to push the boundaries any further than where they are at today. Not only because the gains in perceived fidelity will be so marginal, but because development costs are already out of control. Developers are looking for a way to start lowering their costs, which means games smaller in scope and at the very least, no longer pushing visual fidelity further down the rabbit hole. We can already see the pores on peoples' skin- how much further could they go anyways? Open worlds are already so large they're bordering on being counterproductive.

Nothing is absolute, and obviously there will still be games which, if ported, would need to be noticeably downgraded, but such games will be in an ever shrinking minority.

@WoomyNNYes Appreciate you sharing - I get it, but it's a bummer. Went from an automatic upgrade (even for $40) to a likely pass. I really want to play the game - so maybe I'll go for it in the future.
