Well, here's a face that we had grown tired of anticipating! Hollow Knight: Silksong made a cameo in today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct presentation — yes, an actual, real cameo — and it was accompanied by a 2025 release window.
We saw very little of Team Cherry's sequel, all in all, but the blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearance in the presentation's sizzle reel has us pumped for more info.
We've timestamped the relevant 2-second section for you to check out above, which shows Hornet flipping and sliding through some metroidvania madness. Heck, we even have the following screenshots, courtesy of Nintendo:

It might not have been the full release date reveal that we were hoping for, but it's official news! It's real! It's happening! It'c coming to Switch 2 in 2025! We're over-using exclamation marks!!
Come on then, do you reckon Silksong will make its 2025 release window this time? Let us know down below.

yeah I'll believe it when I see it
2025 until it's delayed at least.
And we still need a dedicated trailer! Oh well... at least it made an appearance after all.
Well its something at least.
Don’t give me hope again, I’ve moved on.
Get your clown hair ready, people... just kidding.
EVERYBODY GET THE CLOWN MAKEUP OFF, SILKSONG IS ACTUALLY REAL
Official date or won't believe it yet.
So much disrespect for Lady Horney showing her just like any other game, when the whole world is waiting for her!
It better still come to OG Switch. I'm not ready to buy a new system.
THE BELIEVERS WON
I think they meant to say "2052".
Hollow Knight fans going nutty right now
NO!!!!!
We better get a normal Switch version
hollow knight fans happiest day is today
Nintendo just threw in 2025 to sell some systems. It doesn't actually know when it'll release. 😅
Aha, blink and you'll miss it. I did, was it while the video was behind (or ahead) .. anyways, still need to have a proper release date, a proper trailer, and please explain why it's not coming to Switch ...
Would have been a big moment to finally have it confirmed.
...eh. I care too much about the series to be pessimistic. I'm still excited to finally see it released.
I love it how they just left it on-screen for like 5 seconds at most so maybe no one would notice it and get overhyped again
Knew this was going to make an appearance. It had to. Not the way I thought. But still
I can't wait for this game to release, not because I'm particularly interested in it, but because Hollow Knight fans have been absolute little ***** about the lack of info and I just want the developers to be free from all of that noise.
Hilarious all the crying in the comments through the entire Direct and every Direct for however long this has been going on warranted them exactly one sad little crumb. My slight excitement has definitely progressed from ambivalence to full on misanthropy where I'm actively rooting for delays and a rocky launch.
How many people are working on this game? And why has it taken them so long? This indie game has endured a longer and more painful dev cycle than a big bloated AAA open world. Announced more prematurely than Square Enix and delayed more than Level 5.
@Ulysses I believe it's a 3 person team.
I have to believe this is an inside-joke between team Cherry and those of us waiting for the game at this point. The first acknowledgement in quite a while, and still no date beyond "2025" made me crack up at least. Why even show it if not to poke the metaphorical bear of fanboy-entitlement?
LOL nice try Nintendo Life! April Fools was yesterday, silly!
@Koffeeking0407 I wouldn't have believed it either unless I saw a brief clip of Silksong from the Direct! 🤣
@sketchturner This is the part that many people miss. They are a 3 person team working on a huge sequel to one of the most beloved indie games of all time. The pressure they are under to get things exactly right must be immense. Did they announce it a bit too early? Yeah, definitely. However, that does not excuse the outright stupid amount of gnashing of teeth over no news. Cut them some slack. It'll release when they feel it's ready. There's tons of other games out there for you to play.
@ArcadianLegend99 I'm happy to cut them slack with how long it's taking. I'm not willing to cut them slack when it comes to the total lack of communication and repeatedly showing the game in presentations like this, only to miss those announced release windows.
Just like the Katana Zero DLC that was promised half a decade ago, this game/dev lost credibility after so many delays. Hopefully it doesn't sell poorly when (and if) it releases.
@rushiosan Yeah. Almost 6 years(!) have passed since Katana ZERO DLC announcement.
Also, why they didn't show Silksong during Switch 1 Nintendo Direct, huh?
Of course Im getting it on Switch 1
Putting it within a reel kinda kill the excitement for me. I really want the game to be a big deal but it seems Nintendo and the dev doesn't see it that way. Still gonna get the game at some point though.
Crazy that we actually got a confirmation of release this year for Silksong in the Switch 2 Direct.
Congrats hollow knight fans, happy 4 ye!!!
@Jack_Goetz Heh, if someone is crazy enough to buy a Switch 2 just for Silksong, then I would have no sympathy for them having to wait.
Kinda fitting that it looks like it will release around when Prime 4 does
