Looking at my username, you can immediately tell I’m a big Mega Man fanboy. So I made this thread for people to discuss everything Mega Man-related. Be clean. Do not post anything offensive. And for the love of God, please don’t talk crap about X7 too much. Thank you. Ideas for discussion: favorite game in the franchise? Least favorite game in the franchise? Headcanons? Unpopular opinions? Most wished for releases?

I still think there was potential for that cancelled Maverick Hunter game. I mean, they got Metroid Prime devs to re-imagine a classic 2d shooter platformer into a first person shooter, it was worth a shot. Especially after basically 15 years of...one new game of value, I don't think its a hot take that they should make a new Megaman game instead of nothing.

@kkslider5552000 Eh, I think they should have gone for a realistic, GTA-style game focused on Axl’s backstory instead.

No. I want a realistic nothing for Megaman, probably ever. It should always be a distinct type of Japanese anime/video game style, forever.

If you want to make it darker or whatever, or add more realistic elements sure, but it should always have at least one foot in that style.

@kkslider5552000 I was actually thinking more of a Final Fantasy-esque art style, so semi-realistic would have been the better term to use. A full-on realistic Mega Man game would be terrifying.

Been a fan of Mega Man since I was kid. My first memory was when a friend of mine went to Texas to visit his grandparents. While he was there they rented my an NES along with a few games one of them was Mega Man 2. I remember him telling me how awesome the game was when he got back so naturally I had to try it. Unfortunately for me they only had Mega Man 3 so I rented that, and been hooked ever since.

I prefer the main line Mega Man games, Mega Man X is ok but X's attitude gets to me after awhile. I have beaten most of the main line Mega Man games 1-7 to be exact. I played 8 for a bit once but yeah couldn't get into it and I have never played 9 or 10 but I have watched people play them. Megaman is probably my favorite franchise to come out on the NES. And I still play them to this day.

@Tasuki MM9 is really fun! It is unfortunate that they removed the slide and charge shot, but it’s still a fantastic game! You should definitely try it sometime!

One thing that always bothers me is the notion of "games you should skip, you should ignore" in game series.

I remember when Mega Man came out. It was incredible!
So what if 2 and 3 were bigger, better, more polished experiences?
That's like saying: "Don't bother playing Super Mario Bros., just play 3, it's...'better' ".

I consider MM2 a top ten NES game. MM3 was not as good.

I enjoyed MMX as much as I did MM3.

Haven't played any other games in the series.

My wish:
1. Graphic in Chibi style like Megaman Powered Up PSP. It's CUTE 😚
2. Banger musics like Gravity Circuit.

I’m a huge Mega Man fan, most of my fandom is mostly directed towards the X and Legends side of things though I still love the Classic and ZX series. If I had a top 5, it’s probably
1) X1
2) Legends
3) X4
4) Legends 2
5) 8

Also they should make a Command Mission 2

@Megas75 I wish they would port the Legends games to the Switch.

@Anti-Matter I’m personally not a fan of Powered Up’s chibi design, I preferred how the Zero series did it (if that can be considered chibi-style).

@Magician If you’re interested in playing more games in the series, I’d recommend picking up Mega Man 11 when it goes on sale (just checked and it’s actually 66% off on the Switch eShop right now). It’s much more polished and accessible than pretty much every other game in the franchise. I’m not sure if it’s my absolute favorite game (X1 provides stiff competition) but it’s definitely one of the best.

@MontyCircus I think I might replay the first game to see whether I like it more than 2 or not. I did not like 2 at all, and 3 can be incredibly wicked at times.

I honestly haven't had the best luck with Megaman games on Switch tbh. Like Megaman 2-5 and X 1-3 and the Legends series and ZX I adore, and that's nearly every Megaman I'd ever played. But outside of going back and beating Megaman 8 for the first time, none of them I've enjoyed quite as much. Zero 1 was annoying tbh, and going back to 7 and playing 9 and 11 and Zero 2 for the first time...they're all good but I much prefer the other games I've played before, they all have things I didn't vibe with. And the last Megaman I played for the first time before that was Battle Network 1, which I found to be underwhelming.

With 9 and 11 I do want to give them another shot, especially with how super beloved 9 is, but to me it just felt like if you made me play 5 or 6 with none of the abilities after 2. It was weird.

@StewdaMegaManNerd I've been into Mega Man for a good while myself. When I was a kid, I used to have a secondhand NES with a bunch of games, and one of which was Mega Man 3. I wasn't very good at it back then, but I did like how you could check out all the different robot master levels without having to do them in a predetermined order. I then got more into the series with Mega Man Anniversary Collection, albeit the GameCube version which has the reversed jump and shoot controls... I later got it for PS2 though. Besides the classic series, I've played the other MM series later on too, namely the X, Zero, ZX, and Battle Network series. Didn't play much of Legends and Star Force.

I'd say my favorite one overall is Mega Man X4, but I do really like MM9, Zero 3, and ZX as well. Have you played the Mega Man Battle Network games? I'm currently playing through them via the Legacy Collection, and I used to play them quite a lot back on the GBA.

@MarioVillager92 I started the first Battle Network game through the collection, but I dropped it after a little while. I’ll probably get back to it sometime soon.

@NeonPizza The LCs are the way I play the older games, and I haven’t noticed much input lag. It is definitely way better to use a Pro Controller, though, compared to the Joy-Con.

@StewdaMegaManNerd Oh gotcha, the first Battle Network is a bit rough around the edges, but I'd say it's worth playing through at least once, if only to see how the series began. Most of the later games are great.
