@NeonPizza It's safe to say that they never experienced them on original hardware if they did they wouldn't have as much negative to say about them.

That's the problem with playing these old NES games on newer systems. Wether it's through services like the Switch Online, Virtual Console, or compilations packs. There's so many variables now that work against the enjoyment of the game like lag, colors being washed out, music not sounding right etc. etc. Then there is the variable that these kids nowadays are comparing the older games to what they know of video games. The scene in Back to the Future II comes to mind, "You gotta use your hands, that's a baby toy".

Which is why I don't take anyone's opinion on older games to seriously unless they played it on an original system with the original cartridge, on a CRT TV which let's be honest is going to be rare.
In a way I do feel sorry for them that they didn't experience these games like they were meant to be but what can you do.

@NeonPizza You'd win that bet. Most people here seem to be PS3/Wii gen and maybe a bit of Gamecube/PS2. We are a dying lot my friend lol. Most of them more then likely played the classic NES games on a service, Greatest Hit Disc or through Roms and emulators.

@NeonPizza LOL yeah we have been over a dozen times about the forums 10 years ago lol yeah it was easily my favorite time. Speaking of old crew I happened to pop on my PS4 a few weeks ago to check some things and I saw Ryno was on his PS5. I didn't get a chance to say hello but it's good to see he's still gaming

As for Megaman I need to get a copy of that as well if anything you can hit up Aliexpress lol. I never played that one to be honest I watched people on YouTube play it but I was never able to play it myself. It doesn't help that it only came out on GBA in the states and I am not a big handheld gamer.

Speaking of handheld have you tried the Megaman games on Gameboy on the Switch? How do they run? I have been wanting to complete Megaman V, I started it on my 3DS but never finished it before it was stolen. I guess if they play like crap on the Switch I could look for a cartridge and play it on my Super NT with my Super Gameboy adapter.

Let me know how that hunt goes for Megaman and Bass.

@Tasuki From my experience, the Game Boy Mega Man games run well on NSO. I didn't notice any emulation issues or anything. I finished the first one a while back.

@NeonPizza This is my ranking of the main Classic games from worst to best:
11. MM8
10. MM3 (I’m going by what I remember during my first playthrough for this one, but I’m replaying it so I may end up changing its rank)
9. MM2
8. MM
7. MM6
6. MM10
5. MM4
4. MM7
3. MM5
2. MM9
1. MM11
Edit: Just beat MM3. I’d put it at number 7.
Edit (again): Beat MM10. I’m putting that crap below MM3. Can’t decide if I should put it below MM6, though. 10 is half-baked, but 6 is incredibly boring.

@NeonPizza Yeah I dont actually have a Megaman V cart, it was one of the few Megaman Games I didnt own when I was a kid. I remember playing Wily's Revenge at my friends house and loving that game to me it was just as solid as the NES entries. Then I remember playing 2 on Gameboy and just being disappointed after that so I kinda wrote the Gameboy Mega Man games off, I honestly thought they were just watered downed versions of the NES games after Wily's Revenge. When I got older I found out that Mega Man V on Gameboy was its own game but by then it got uber expensive. I remember waiting for Capcom to release an Anniversary Collection for the Gameboy games like the one they did for the NES games on the Gamecube. They said they were going to even some places like Amazon had place holders for it but then I guess Capcom said that they lost the files or something for the Gameboy games and they couldnt rerelease them. I didnt actually get to play Mega Man V till the 3DS VC but unfortunately, I never beat due to my 3DS getting stolen. I might poke around online to see how much a cart is going for Mega Man V.

I actually play all my SNES games on the Super NT. If I want to play Super Mario World I just pop that in since I have my original cartridge, I cant deal with the lag on the NSO version Mario just feels so unresponsive its horrible. I do feel sorry for the kiddos that this is their first time experience that game. But yeah any SNES game I want to play its on the Super NT. I even once every couple of months go and check out my local flea markets for deals on SNES games. I did manage to get a few that way. I was able to score a copy of Sim City, Mega Man X, Smash TV, TMNT Fall of the Foot Clan (Before the Cowabunga Collection was announced) Ducktales on Gameboy, and Demon's Crest for less then $20 each. I just cant deal with the lag on NSO. I need to at some point hook my Mega SG up as well so I can play my Genesis library.

@StewdaMegaManNerd Yeah I agree with @NeonPizza you can't really judge these games fairly unless you play them on original hardware (Original console, cartridge, CRT TV) they way they are meant to be played. Playing on stuff that it was never intended to run on causes to many negative variables, like lag or colors being off etc. So of course Mega Man 11 is going to rank higher for you on Switch then say 1 or 2 because it was made for Switch.

It's like say a movie from the 50s is bad because you can see all the flaws in the sets and the strings holding stuff up when you watch it on a 4K TV.

So yeah I suggest go back and play 1 through 5 on the NES with a CRT TV. Then let us know what you think.

@NeonPizza Even though they didnt play it in the 80s when they were hot and fresh doesnt mean they cant appreciate them. Take records for example alot of people who appreciate them now didnt grow up with them at all when they were younger there was CDs and maybe cassette tapes. Yet records are appreciated by the younger generation.

I understand where you are coming from some dont appreciate the older stuff cause like you said they werent around. However though you got to play it as it was originally intended on original hardware.

@NeonPizza Well Atari was rough but the point is you played it on original hardware not some 30 year newer TV and console with lag input and washed out colors and then say well the Gameboy version of Donkey Kong is better then the Atari version because the music was better.

But like I said unfortunately these kiddos aren't going to be able to experience these games like we did in the 80s unless they have a Doc Brown time machine and if that's the case why didn't anyone say anything lol. Seriously though before passing judgement on a game at least play it how it was intended. You can't compare a game built for the NES and play it on a Switch to a game that's built natively for the Switch. That's like comparing apples to oranges.

@NeonPizza That's exactly it, they figure the eShop version is just as good as the original without the hassle but sadly it isn't. Not to sound like a broken record but it would be like me buying a Gordon Ramsey TV dinner from the grocery store and saying Gordon Ramsey doesn't know ***** about cooking he has no talent instead of going to his brick and morter restaurants. I mean it's more convenient to just buy the meal from the grocery store then travel to New York to his resturant.

Don't past judgement on something unless you play it as it was originally intended.

@NeonPizza So I was wondering how does Megaman 2 run on the NES Mini? I mean yeah I need to use a SNES Mini controller due to Nintendo's dumb idea on the length of the NES Mini controller but besides that how does it play compared to the Legacy Collection? I have been thinking of doing a playthrough of that here soon.

have fun

Neo Arcadia is a huge empire where humans and Reploids are supposed to live together peacefully. Unfortunately, we have had to endure a downward spiral of evil oppressors. Since I am Zero, the Resistance's best Maverick Hunter, I have to stop them from wiping out humans, Reploids, or both. Reploids are highly advanced robots, which have become very similar to humans because people have been building and learning about robots for centuries.

The Resistance is a group of rebels halting the plans of the villains ruling Neo Arcadia. Rudely, The Neo Arcadians have dubbed us as 'Mavericks' and 'criminals.' I won't stand with this nonsense! The Resistance leader is a fourteen-year old girl named Ciel who built Copy X and apparently found me while I was asleep. Alouette is a little Reploid girl who is pretty much Ciel's younger sister. She always carries around a cat stuffy. My best friend X was the very first Reploid. He was built way back when Robot Masters were still a thing. He is now a Cyber-Elf, which is kind of like a robot ghost. Because he is my best chum, he comes to see me a lot. As I said before, I am the Resistance's best fighter, therefore I must defeat all of the people trying to take over Neo Arcadia. We rebels in the Resistance have a lot of work to do, beating the bad guys and all that.

We have had to put up with a bunch of villainous overlords that would like to either take over Neo Arcadia or just plain old wipe it off the map. The first ruler was X, because he actually ruled fairly until he went missing. The second one was Copy X, who everyone, including me, thought was the real X. Of course, the real X was off wherever he was, minding his own business and doing.. . Whatever it is that Cyber-Elves do all day. Ciel had built Copy X to rule in X's place when he went missing, and it worked well for a while. Despite everyone complying with him, Copy X eventually became deranged and began calling any Reploid who dared to step out of line in any way a Maverick. Eventually, almost all of the Reploids were qualified as Mavericks. He decided that the solution to all of these so-called 'Mavericks' would be to decommission all of the Reploids, even though he was also a Reploid, ironically. He even recruited the Four Guardians- X's own children- to help him! So then I had to run through a bunch of fortresses, defeat my best friend's kids, and save Neo Arcadia from a guy that I thought was X. After I beat Copy X and was feeling very bad, the real X came to show that he was okay. About a month later, Elpizo, a conceited and power-hungry former Resistance leader, came to rule Neo Arcadia and steal the Dark Elf, which is kind of like the Triforce from The Legend of Zelda. When I angrily stepped up to confront him, he tried to convince me to help him kill all of the humans by using the Dark Elf's power and build a world only for Reploids. What a jerk. Naturally, I rejected his offer. He ended up getting the Dark Elf anyways, but I beat him. Then, I got the harrowing information that I was actually a copy of myself, and that this awful psychopath named Omega Zero had my original body, and was off doing absolutely horrible things. Then X and Ciel told me that even though I had a copy body, I still had the original Zero's personality chip. It didn't make much sense, but I still felt a lot better about myself. X sold it a lot better than Ciel did, though. Then I had to beat up the crazy maniac who was me but at the same time not me and basically just wanted to destroy everything in existence. After I defeated him, this really old human scientist named Dr. Weil decided to take over the world, but since he was a human, I couldn't hurt him at all unless he was going to hurt other humans, so I just had to watch him take over with nothing I could do about it! Eventually, he somehow got up to this big satellite called Ragnarok and was planning to crash it down into Area Zero, since he had regenerative armor that would protect him from the crash. Area Zero was where all of the humans and Reploids that escaped were hiding out. So I teleported up, fought through the security, because apparently satellites need protection these days, and reached the chamber where Dr. Weil was. Then he went on this long ramble about how he would win because I couldn't kill him since he was a human and I would be a Maverick if I did. After about ten minutes of his agonizingly obnoxious bragging, I cut him off and told him that number one, I didn't care if I was a Maverick or not, number two, I wouldn't be a Maverick because he was literally trying to kill a bunch of humans, and number three, he was so evil and obnoxious that he had lost humanity privileges and was now qualified as a rock. As we were falling down, I used that time to break Ragnarok into tiny little pieces that would barely hurt anyone when they landed. Then I found a particularly hard box and closed myself inside of it. Once we hit the ground, I came out and saw that I had landed somewhere completely random, and I wandered off to go find Area Zero again. In all of the years that I've been in Neo Arcadia, we've had some terribly oppressive tyrants.

I joined the Resistance in a bit of an unusual way. It started back in 21XX, when I went to sleep and stayed asleep for one hundred years, because I was lazy. When Ciel found me and finally got me to wake up, I joined the Resistance, because she pretty much saved my life. (I would have stayed asleep for eternity.) Since I was still tired, even after a century, I was mad around the clock. The only memories that I had were of my best friend X who was apparently a Cyber-Elf now. After we got back to Resistance base, I kind of just wandered around and talked to people. Eventually, I encountered X, who was so quintessentially happy to see me that he picked me up and spun me around a bunch of times. Then we went back to Resistance base, and he also joined. I had an odd reason for joining the Resistance.

I've had to save Neo Arcadia from the tyrants who are trying to take over an annoying amount of times. Unfortunately, I don't know if Neo Arcadia is any better now that Copy X, Elpizo, Omega Zero, and Dr. Weil are gone, but I wouldn't recommend travelling there unless you're someone who really likes taking risks. As for me, I'm planning on going back, because I want to make sure that we don't have any more of this chaos. Maybe one day, we'll be able to turn Neo Arcadia into a place where humans and Reploids can coexist peacefully.

Yeah, I changed it to appeal to 'younger audiences' (aka my sisters) and just left it that way, because it's a lot better than BURNING UP IN THE ATMOSPHERE. I also have this theory that Mega Man, Pokemon, and Splatoon all happened in the same world.
