Nintendo Switch 2 Launches 5th June 2025, Mario Kart World Bundle Confirmed

I really hope whoever wants one is able to get it. I'm not holding my breath scalpers won't ruin another product launch.😐 I'm going to personally wait for a while before getting one. I'm content with my OLED

I'm seeing a price of EUR 499 listed. That would be a significant price hike if true.

EDIT: So EUR 469 it is. Slightly disappointing, tbh, because they said affordability was something they had taken into consideration. Yet understandable, with inflation, uncertainty and a weak Yen.

For me, it's too expensive to consider for a day one purchase, but I'll definitely get it further down the line. MP4 will be on S1 anyway, so not missing out on the one game I'm really looking forward to.

Liked the look of MK and DK, but I don’t think I need to have this on day one. Lots of 3rd party, not much Nintendo.

Technically a new Zelda...new DK...Mario Kart looks remarkable...Elden Ring and a new FS game...FF7...Street Fighter 6....and finally acknowledgement for the Gamecube...I'd say I'm very satisfied with this one.

I'm most excited for the DK game. I've been waiting so damn long to see a proper 3D Donkey Kong title, and what they showed looks like exactly what I've been wanting.

Slightly concerned by Soulcalibur 2 getting acknowledged again. Would have strongly preferred the HD port, and I'm guessing the GC version coming back might prevent the port from coming over.

Interested in Switch 2 BOTW/TOTK. Wonder how much better they might look.

Maybe by time some games I want are out, they'll have the OLED model available.

The only Switch 2 titles that interest me at this point are Pokémon Z-A and the enhanced Hogwart's Legacy (though if I have to buy the full Hogwart's game again, might wait until it goes on sale, since I already have it on my Switch).

That being said, I want a Switch 2, but I don't feel like I HAVE to have it on day 1.

I sure as heck am not paying more just to play zelda again in 4k.

June was the common estimate considering the timing of the Direct and schedule of the demonstration events. Nintendo telegraphed it. Very happy it's not further away. Still not happy about no release date for Metroid Prime 4. Grrr!

I'm shocked at the $450 price. I really thought Nintendo would not go over $400. Obviously they know it will sell and $50 more is unlikely to put many off.

For Australia, the conversion is $715 AUD so I'm guessing $730 and $800, respectively. Could be $20 more if Nintendo want to further bleed us!

I was more excited and satisfied with last week's direct, to be honest, in terms of game announcements and new apps etc.

Switch 2 enhancements of BOTW is what interested me most in today's presentation. Which is to say...I think I can wait for a while before picking one up.

Good luck to those who are excited and want one on launch day. Hopefully the unannounced price is palatable, and scalpers are kept in check for pre-orders and release.

I admit that I were wrong about some things. 4K + 120fps were a shock for me.
Those games shown here looks not even close to PS4 Pro upgraded games. So Xbox 1 to PS4 (or a bit above PS4) level then.

But that Elden Ring (and some other too) footage is much below of my copy on my PS4 Pro so Switch 2 is probably not on PS4 level, or?

But... Seriously poor Sony! Seriously a FromSoftware Switch 2 exclusive game must be a titanic blow against Sony and their fanbase now.

I'm seriously not that thrilled with those ultra gimmicky nonsense here, this feels too Wii / Wii U honestly.

That Daemon game is my highlight here. I'm not that sure of Duskblood, it feels like a FromSoftware Greatest Hits game, too many similar character/location designs from Elde Ring, Bloodborne, Sekiro & Dark Souls games.

Mario Kart World... I don't know about this, it feels like that Nintendo is taking a huge risk here. Looks too big to be a "party racing" game.

Well 1080p screen, holy shet! My bet were at 900p. I guess there're a reason by why they haven't revealed the price yet, because it's EXPENSIVE!

Not day one for me like with Switch. Damn saw now 469euros! So 600-700euros in my country then, yikes!

Nintendo for sure took at lot of risk with that price tag.... It's a huge jump from Switch prices.

Going to wait until they announce a Zelda edition. Got my TOTK OLED when it came out and I can't justify switching from that to a plain black console. My partner is still using his OG switch and might upgrade though, so I can play any exclusives on my profile on his console until then.

@Fizza they 100% avoided recording the price-point because of all the threats of tariffs being thrown around, simpler todo it that way.

Switch 2 is way cheaper in Japan where it has a region locked version.
It's 20% more expensive for the international version. Thanks USA and your tariffs, you really outdid yourself at being a jerk to everybody in the world including Europe, Asia and Australia.

MKWorld and Hogwarts Legacy, plus Wind Waker on GCOnline will keep me busy until my boy Donkey Kong comes to play.

Scalpers can do what they want, no need to buy it first day with the 2025 lineup that was shown. Can even wait until next year

June is pretty quick. But none of the launch games gave me that "must have" feeling, so the price is going to play an important role this time.

More than $100 USD cheaper in Japan. I don't begrudge them that at all though. Their currency has been super weak and our politics have been super stupid.

They probably priced me out for day 1 purchase. It's not terrible, I can afford it, but ultimately I'm not sure I can justify the purchase at that price tag. I'm sure at some point I'll pick it up, most likely not in June though.

$450 - $500 w/ MKW is too rich for me. I'd need several games I need to play at that price and so far they have just 2, MKW and DKB which may not be to my liking b/c of those 2D sections.

They obviously put some cost into the screen, 1080p, HDR, 120fps, but I only game docked. Take out the screen and battery, give me $100 off, then maybe.

I have a PS5, I can still game w/o Nintendo. Mostly for free. Nintendo still seems to be avoiding those.🤷‍♂️

June was an easy call, and I was largely right about $449.

I still don't know if I'm in any rush but I'll try to get one if I can. Mario Kart World looks AMAZING and so does Donkey Kong Bananza even though it makes me worried about certain favorite characters still being a no show.

I was really hoping they could get $399.99 to work but $449.99 isn't too bad.

I'm very satisfied with what I saw so I'll look into grabbing one at launch.

How could they leave the pricing out of the direct? Pretty frustrated.
I could also do with a couple clarifications…
-Obviously you can’t stick on old Joy-Cons, but can they wirelessly connect for Switch 1 multiplayer games, or do I need to get another 6 new Joycons for full Pico Park Chaos?
-How much are those game upgrades going to be exactly? And do upgrades use the same saves? And can you freely jump from playing in-upgraded on Switch 1 then to Switch 2 with upgrade, then back to Switch 1 when you need to go away on Holiday?
-Is a MicroSDXC an express card? As that’s what my 1.5 TB one is. I’ll just use with my Steam Deck is that’s not useable on Switch 2, but this might get frustrating quickly…

I can already see this being priced at 4000 reais here in Brazil. That amounts to 1.5x the price in dollars, if you were to simply convert it. Not that I'm not used to it, but goddamn. That's 3 minimum salaries. Nintendo said they were aiming for a bigger presence here, so maybe it will be like 3800? One can only hope!

Price point is offensive. What is the innovation? Some chat function and a mouse? That’s the best they have after eight years? And a load of “old game but in 60 fps please give money?”They didn’t show anything exciting enough to make it a day one purchase and I have a switch backlog anyway.

@ChessboardMan why would you need to switch between Switch and Switch 2 versions? if you're playing the Switch version with upgrade pack, it's not going to magically stop working on the original Switch. And why can't you take the Switch 2 with you it's still portable?

Pleasantly surprised at the price but here in Dubai like;y to be rather more than RRP. No preorder scheme over here but Nintendo isn’t that popular either.

The price is what I expected, and Mario Kart's free roam looks interesting, but there just isn't enough here yet for me to take the plunge.

Personally, I think they could have gone bigger with the games after how long they made us wait for this reveal. As someone who already has a PC for third party games at high FPSs, I've got to be honest, I'm very underwhelmed...

I am quite dissapointed. Weak showing of exclusives, charging for updates and charging a lot for the just the console. Think I will wait on this. Especially since I am sure they won't be gentle to Brazil since they never are. I am tired of always licking nintendo's boots without the bare minimum in return.

There's still so much they didn't show us like what the UI looks like, whether or not sharing photos from your console to post online is easier than the convoluted system we have now, showing us the new look Joy-Con cradle. No other colour alternatives is disappointing too.

Also, Mario Kart physical being £75. 75 British Pound Sterling, what the hell is that about Nintendo???

I was ready to pre-order today. Instead I find out I have to pay 120 bucks more than Japan, physical games are going cost 80 bucks. The system is 450 so it can do 120hz which is something I can't even do with my TV? And the absolute worst is I can't pre-order because I haven't paid for switch online for 12 months?!? The absolute greed. Honestly, I loved my switch and while I mostly liked indie games, those titles are often free now on PC giveaways... Why should I spend so much money for this? There were games that looked good in the direct, but I don't see anything that makes me say I want to spend 520 before tax to play it. 350 got me BOTW. I think Nintendo talked me out of being a customer. Loyal customer since 1985 and I just am not sure if I want to continue on.

It is insane what gaming companies are trying to get away with now.

I am pretty disappointed for the launch. Mario Kart who cares it is beaten to death. Most of the games are enhanced version ( I finished both Breath and Tears) or older games like Elden ring ( I already beat it on the PS5). No Animal crossings or mention of one? All this time to get ready and this is it?
I sure hope they show some more launch titles or at least something this year.
Then 80 buck for Mario kart a game beaten to death and main reason it did so well was it was a bundle.
I am starting to feel Nintendo is as bad a Sony.

This pre order business is well meaning but it's just going to annoy Nintendo fans who don't fit the strict criteria and also the scalpers will still find a way, they always do. No company really wants to stop scalpers because it increases their sales by people panic buying and scalpers quickly buying up their stock. It's actually good financially for Nintendo as a company

I wasnt impressed by the ‘new’ games there and many are already cheaper and better looking on other consoles (not to mention PS5 Pro). £500+ is a lot to play Mario Kart with a pro controller….literally nothing else appealed to me as a long time Nintendo gamer. As for paying to upgrade my existing games, bit of a let down. First console since the N64 I am thinking of skipping…

That's what it is. Many companies are already raising prices to compensate. It will likely take some people months, even years, to realize how tariffs work.

These companies have to make a profit to survive, and countries who impose tariffs pass the cost to the consumer.

Switch 2 looks great, regardless of cost. I'm not sure if I will buy the console for a while though. I feel like I may play my ps5 for another two years, and maybe jump on the boat later. I have a huge backlog on that console. I will be buying the new Rhythm Heaven on Switch 1.

@Clammy no they didn’t. They switched to charging about a year into the PS5. Microsoft is the only one to do Xbox One/Xbox Series versions as one price.

Switch 2 is how the Switch 1 should have been, considering the Wii U was awesome with a lot more features. Anyways, I "registered" for the Switch 2 but then realised how expensive everything will be so I won't be buying it for a few years.

I can afford it but I want to send a message (and I really hope others too) that we won't accept such high prices for everything. That bundle is pathetic, it should have included the pro controller and the Welcome Tour game as well as Mario Kart.

@Ramouz I agree, to replace my Switch OLED with two pro controllers and 512gb SD will cost me £425 (more if I bought MK separately, £150 for two pro controllers, £60 for a microsd express (and that is only 256gb). Add in a case, screen protector and that is north of £650. I just grabbed a PS5 Pro for less than that and can play a good number of the games showcased here at 4k 120fps. Sony always had the better hardware and visuals, but the Ninty systems were so much cheaper with fun titles. This kind of money doesnt feel like fun, and I still have to pay more to upgrade games to Switch 2 editions. Feels like a money pit.

As for a welcome tour you have to pay for. Have Nintendo actually seen Astro Bot Playroom?? And christ, can we just have a release date for Metroid 4!!

Mario Kart World looks stunning. I love all the new modes of racing. The new tracks are amazing. First time ever we have a safari track! And I'm so happy to see Airship Fortress and Shy Guy Bazaar return!

I'll be waiting until sometime after launch due to a few other budget items in the pipe, plus I like waiting for a few hardware and software fixes first. I really hope those who do want a Switch 2 at launch can get one without scalpers ruining everything.

@SuperRetroArt if it was the same system but only for those who own a switch and not NSO customers it would have been fine. Isn't that like a 540 dollar charge to get access to the preorder? If they just did my Nintendo accounts that existed before today's date it would have limited preorders to people who use a Switch which would have been great.

@splinters I agree. I think Nintendo made a huge mistake. I would have rather had a 300 dollar system with minor upgrades and joy cons that wouldn't break than this. I don't have a 120hz screen because I don't want one. I am happy at 60fps or less I actually would prefer a steady 30 at high resolution. Having to spend 90 for a game cart is the deal breaker.

I definetly would buy switch 2 but maybe a OLED version ,im very happy the game library on this

@splinters I paid 560 CAD for the Xbox Series X, 3 years ago, second hand. Brand new was just a few dollars more, but I would have had to add tax. (Side note, I really want to play Astro Bot and those games!)

Switch 2 is 630 + tax CAD.

I'll leave the good games for my laptop (RTX 4080) and Xbox and stick to Nintendo games for the Switch 2, as usual, but I'm still very disappointed with the pricing. So much that I am second guessing now if I want to buy it. I don't want to support them like that.

@Clammy you can still play the original Switch game on the Switch 2. You just have to pay extra for the updated visuals, feature upgrades and any other changes they made to the original to take advantage of those features on the Switch 2. Otherwise, you original purchase will play like it was on the original Switch hardware.

For example, if you want to use the Nintendo Switch app on your phone with Zelda BoTW as a second screen, you’ll need the upgrade pack. If you want to keep playing your game as is, you won’t need to pay for anything. Likely Nintendo will provide a free patch for the game to use the new screen resolution and any other improvements to have the original Switch game to function as it’s intended to play.

@ToniK you gotta buy it now. Milestone bday! I will be 40 this year as well.

@progx : Yeah, I know.. But paying extra money for what amounts to a couple of lines of code to up resolution, etc... Seems penny pinching to me.

@Clammy from what I’m understanding, it’s more than just a couple lines of code. We’re taking asset upgrades, features added/integrated into the games that aren’t in the original and other changes. Again, they’re optional and you don’t need them to play the game in its original form. Nintendo will likely provide a performance patch or some update to the original that will help them run on the new unit, but it isn’t going to change the game.

@progx : Nah, the textures will all be upscaled in AI. They even have a patent with nvidia (I think? I cant remember all of the details) for doing that in real time.
Resolution change is 1 line of code, HDR lighting is a bit more work I admit... But Im guessing they have internal engine which they only have to update once (Or if they're using unreal/unity - like i know they DO do for some games, that would be pretty quick to do).

But meh.. no biggy. I already own BOTW twice on Wii-U and Switch. I'm not buying it a 3rd time. And Tears of kingdom I've only recently completed so i dont really feel need to play again unless there's some DLC for it.

Then again, I'm not convinced to buy the console itself yet. So far the only games they've shown which interest me are 3rd party - which would look and play better on ps5.. which costs 25% less .. So I might just buy one of them along with astrobot.

But maybe mario kart has a great single player, and maybe donkey kong is better than it first appeared... And maybe they'll announce something else i want.. But right now.. At the price they've stated.. I think I can wait for the OLED edition (or hopefully a version which is much cheaper and doesnt have the handheld mode)

Nintendo charging $450 console and $80 game for an iPad console is crazy. PS5 is more powerful and only $400 with bundle currently. I'll pass for now.

With having a backlog of games that i want to play & having games that are out now that I want to buy I will wait till next year before buying a Switch 2. From the direct the only games that interest me are Mario Kart World,
Donkey Kong & Metroid , also Mario Kart World £75? Mario Kart Deluxe is half that price.

@Clammy okay... good for you if you don't want to buy it. I don't think Nintendo is "penny pinching" on providing optional upgrades to existing games. Personally, I'm not the biggest Zelda fan, so I'll likely not get either of them. Tears of the Kingdom had the coolest upgrades over Breathe of the Wild, especially sharing creations with friends will seem to go over well with the consumers they're targeting.

However, from what I'm reading, it seems NSO+Expansion Pass members will get these upgrades as part of their memberships; specifically for Zelda. The rumored prices are $10-15 per pack. This matches to what Sony was doing with their titles. 3rd parties will likely just provide free optimized patches to up convert Switch games to take advantage of the Switch 2.

For me, Mario Kart World will be a game I want to play on day one on it. I've been buying Mario Kart since I got the DS Lite in 2006. I'll probably get the Kirby upgrade pack since Forgotten Lands was very fun to play.

I don't know what the programming side of things looks like, but I trust Nintendo's quality level over Sony or other publishers. It's not my place to put a price on it since the workers who do it need to be paid. It still takes hours/days of testing these games when you make alterations in the code. I've played in Python and Java at the basic level, I can imagine what it would be like working with a huge app. It has to be a lot of work, so if $10-15 bucks is what they choose to charge for it is Nintendo's decision.

I'd get it day one but I'm not 100% certain if I'd be able to bypass the scalpers.

However at those prices for games, i just won't be purchasing as many games on Nintendo hardware anymore.

Also the costs im seeing here is just pushing me towards Valve. Might be a better investment to put into a gaming PC instead.

One of the deciding factors for me with mario kart would be a decent single player campaign... Any information on that yet?

I'm still on the fence right now.. If there had been a new mario or zelda or something "big" as a launch title, then (even with price) i'd have been pre-ordering.

(Im not convinced by the donkey kong game.. My first impression of it was that it looked rubbish - like a n64 throwback)

@Pigeon I still have my GCN original, but it'll be nice to finally be able to play it on a modern television. I'd prefer that the Switch get the HD remaster that includes Link, Spawn and Heihachi, but I won't complain about being able to play Soul Calibur II on the go.

@Clammy Same here! I assumed the Switch 2 would follow PlayStation’s Astrobot’s Playroom in terms of its style, as it’s a shame they had to put a price on it!

I am really bummed about the price increase, specially on physical media, in Europe. I was already making plans to gift my switch to my nephews on release date but now I am not sure I will buy it after all...

I just hope Nintendo allows digital purchases online as I will be buying games before the system.

£395 in 2025 is the equivalent of £301.03 in 2017 (bank of England inflation calculator) so in ‘real’ terms it’s only a little more than og switch was at launch.

Another comparison… pretty sure my n64 cost me £250 back in 1997 and the games £60 - today that would be £483 for the console and £116 for a game.

I know people will generally compare more to other current console prices but personally I think a hybrid console of this quality at £430 with a AAA game isn’t bad. Cheaper than the cheapest iPhone new.
