Since the birth of the Switch all I have seen is constant threads on other forums/social media talking about how outdated the Switch already was. Flooded comments of "it needs a 1080p screen" or "Steady frame rate." I get the frame stuff, but why do the majority of gamers on here think that Nintendo would answer the masses and it be cheap? Me, personally, I think this system is complete overkill but Nintendo needs to stay relevant for the next 10 years, so in a sense I get it. I think a 60hz screen would have been sufficient enough, and would have cut costs dramatically, but what do I know?
Then there's the games. Reasonable complaints, but let's not grab our pitchforks just yet. Did we forget that Sony charged $10 on some of these games users already have downloaded from their PS4? That they remade Last of Us and slapped a $70 tag on it? Demon Souls? I think it's a crap practice all around, but the outrage strictly at Nintendo for this is astonishing to read on a daily bases.
It's $450 because it's a $450 device. They could have opted for a another model with a smaller screen at 60hz for $375ish, but they need that relevance for modern games and the cheaper option would have sold more.
As far as $80 games go, welcome to 2025, it's here to stay from ALL companies. At least take some comfort that you will be more selective with your 1st party titles and get your money's worth and some 3rd party devs might be cool enough to give you upgrades for free or very little.
As far as I go, I'm getting one. My son is buying my PS5 , which I hardly play, and it's going to cover the exact amount for it with everything I have included. I'm looking forward to Bravely Default, working my my Switch backlog, and seeing what's on the horizon as a JRPG player. I hope to God Resident Evil 2-4 will be on there more sooner than later.
Exactly, people complained wanting something on par with PS5 and don't want to realize the price a sacrifice to have it. But fail to face reality that this come with a price to have a portable system to meet the demand.
I've got nothing against the price. I just think that the first party games line-up sucks. I'll get Metroid Prime 4 for Switch 1 and see if they announce anything that's a bit more up my alley for next year.
@Kaisarion83 Glad to see someone else with their head on straight. With or without inflation price increases were coming across the board regardless of platform, and the industry pretty much fave those who were paying attention the heads up.
I think the price is fine the hardware is quite impressive for the cost. People will make an issue about the screen not being oled but those who have been hands on with the switch 2 are impressed with it so I'm not concerned.
@Poco_Lypso Square Enix are usually very physical-friendly like they put Rebirth on 2 discs instead of having a mandatory internet download but even they chose to make their Switch 2 game (Bravely Default remaster) a Key Card release. I think that says a lot about the future of physical on Switch 2.
Yeah, the fact that Square Enix went cheap with the Bravely Default release does not bode well for the FF7 Remake Intergrade release. Fair to assume they'll opt the game-key card for that too.

Unless you can cite genuine examples of anyone actually asking for moar pwr and then that same entity subsequently complaining about the cost, then you are arguing with yourselves. Whatever works for you, give yourselves a pat on the back if you like.
But I'd also suggest that after 8 years, it doesn't seem unreasonable to expect my 2017 £300 to be able to buy a little more performance.
As many people here have observed over the Switch years, diminishing returns from computational power increases means Nintendo, and other developers, have to be ever more creative to tempt us to part with our cash because a little more smooth and shiny isn't going to be enough to make people think they should spend
up to 50% more in the Switch 2 generation.
Plus, Nintendo have gone XL with the Switch 2, which will leave a fair few handheld gamers feeling uncatered for. I don't want a bigger tablet or bigger joy-cons, so I certainly don't feel too eager to pay more money for something I want less.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
@Kaisarion83 You could've just played the Resident Evil remakes on the PS5 it would've looked and played better. It would've been much cheaper too. But, okay then. Wait for the $70 Switch 2 version, lol.
The Harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.
Been thinking about this for a while and this seems as good a place to dump my thoughts as any:
The whole online vibe around the Switch 2 is suffering from the same thing I’ve seen several other online discussions fall into over the last few years, where as soon as one negative thing happens then everything about that thing has to be negative, and anyone not following along with the negativity gets shouted down. Not talking necessarily about individual people here, but more about the whole tone of the conversation.
I first remember it with Pokémon Sword and Shield; the initial reaction to the games when they were revealed was overall pretty positive. Then they revealed the dex cut, and all of a sudden they’re the worst games in the world ever and if you dare say anything positive about them you get a dozen angry replies calling you stupid and a Game Freak shill.
Now the same is happening with the Switch 2; people were pretty happy with it until the price of games turned out to be higher than expected, and now it completely sucks. That’s even without the disinformation going around, I’ve twice already had to explain to people that no, most game cartridges will actually have the game on them and not just a download key.
I’m not saying that you can’t express negative opinions about these things, but when they’re the only voices dominating the conversation in such an aggressive way it just makes everything unpleasant, then anyone who doesn’t thrive on negativity will end up going away and the cycle continues.
For me it's pretty much exactly what I asked for at more-or-less the price I was expecting. Switch again but revised for a the next generation taking advantage of the natural progression of tech over the last 8 years. A more modern and portable PS4-Advanced, more or less. Nuker of PC portables, insane value for what it is
Would I have liked it to be a tad cheaper? Maybe. But not monstrously so. And honestly when you compare it to other similar portable gaming devices on the market it looks pretty good. As someone who is into those kinds of devices? Yeah, this is fair, this is exactly what I was wanting to see

An opinion is only respectable if it can be defended. Respect people, not opinions
$80 games sets a really bad standard for gaming in general. Big publishers will take notice and increase prices across the board. I said this to my friend when $70 games became a thing. If we buy games at $70, what's stopping game companies to start charging, $80, $90, $100 per game? Look where we are, Nintendo is charging $80 for Mario Kart. With the talks of GTA6 being over $100, I do not want this to become the norm. With these higher game prices, I'm afraid I'm going to be priced out of a hobby I love. Right now, I buy games on Switch and PC when sales happen. Knowing Nintendo, their games rarely go on sale.
Game-Key cards are self explanatory. A cartridge that has nothing on it and downloads the game to the system memory. All that's on the cart is a small bit of data that tells the Switch 2 to download the game. Plus it requires Internet connection (to download and first time launching it). If I buy a physical game, I want the game on the cart, disc, etc. I know it's not all games, again you know many publishers will take the option over putting the full game on the cart.
That's why, even me as a long time Nintendo fan, I'm having complaints about this. I have no complaints about the system itself. It's about these two things for me. I'm just glad I also play PC games, and still have those to play.

For everyone who asked, "where is the Switch Pro?"
Well...here it is. What are you waiting for? Switch 2 Lite? Check back a few years from now.

I think a lot of people are satisfied or even thrilled, myself included. The negativity just tends to propagate a lot, and I find that a lot of it comes from people who wouldn't have bought the console anyway.
Also just nothing is life is ever going to make everyone happy.
Well possibly the counter argument is that "some" people have been clamouring for a new much more powerful Switch. Whereas the vast majority of people take no part in all this online discussion, and maybe they bought the Switch because it was the cheapest console option out there, cheap enough in Switch Lite form to get more than one in the family. And the Switch turned out to be probably the best selling console ever.
I think the Switch 2 is pretty good value as a handhand, it compares well to its competitors (if you can even consider Steam Deck and handheld PC's competitors).
If you use it as a home console it's much worse value being at the same price or more than a PS5 or Xbox with much less power.
It's just overall, comparatively, worse value than the original Switch 1 was. I'm sure it'll sell well and everyone who eventually upgrades from a Switch will be more likely to get one because they're already in the Nintendo ecosystem.
The only negative thing for me is the marketing of the key-carts. Everything else seems awesome but most of the 3rd party releases will be on key-carts to "save" on production costs and push those costs on the users.
@TimelessJubilee I could, but the closest the PS5 gets to the switch is with the PlayStation Portal, and that thing sucks. Had Sony put a 1tb HDD in that thing and let gamers have downloads, this Switch 2 probably wouldn't be a thought. I play my OG more than my PS5. It was a RE/Astrobot machine. That's it.
@CinnamonRobin Isn't there physical games on the Switch that require a download to play? Wouldn't that be in the same area as these key cards? I think people would have a less harsher opinion if they were advertised as such and that they could still let friends borrow them and trade them in. Would help the cause if Nintendo stated that these are future proofed too.
