I swear this trade war is almost making me want to buy at launch now simply because I have no idea what the zelda edition is gonna be in 3-5 years.Or if we will even get one if Nintendo has to adjust shipments down right out the gate.

Wonder when Nintendo will reopen pre-orders for the US.

The Nintendo website says May 8 so I'm guessing May 8. If you want to pre-order, make sure to sign up for the 'interested in pre-ordering' list. And hopefully the price won't increase...

I beat Fire Emblem [GBA] on Wii U. It was a good experience! Never played Sacred Stones though. Maybe after Holy War remake, Sacred Stones could be next. Then again, Binding Blade (FE6 on GBA, the last JP-only title) and it's prequel Blazing Sword (FE7 on GBA, the debut title in the west- I know you know this but I'm still mentioning it for the sake of others in the thread reading this who may not) would be prime candidates.

@Ryu_Niiyama
I think its a smart move. It's why I pre-ordered today on Amazon UK ($480 shipped for base console- pointless to get bundle since it's a PAL region game) just in case. There's no guarantee they won't increase price $100. There's no guarantee they'll even release Switch 2 in the US June 5th at this point.

Even having to buy a US charger separately and Mario Kart World rather than getting it in a bundle, I'm ok with that if it guarantees getting the system. $585 after tax for console, charger and Mario Kart World. Buying bundle in the US (assuming price doesn't rise and assuming it even releases June 5th) would be $530 after tax. So its only an exta $55 for the guarantee, for the insurance policy against a price increase or postponed release.

@JaxonH Exactly. Nintendo reconfigured a majority of things that were wrong with the original console. I'm pretty sure they would've fixed the main thing that went wrong with it. The reason why it probably doesn't use Hall-effect is because of the magnets in the joycon that help it attach to the console.

@JaxonH
600? That's impressive. I've got close to 400 Digital Switch games, with maybe less than 20 on the Wishlist, and with only 5 physical copies left. Jim Power & the Lost Dimensions for it's outlandish hysterical early 90's inspired box art, TMNT: Shredder's Revenge, Donut Dodo, The Ninja Saviours & a PlayAsia JPN copy of Batsugun. They never get used, since i have them all digitally now. lol

But you're right. most people don't really care about somebody else's shrine of Video game plastic. They might be interested in catching a glimpse of what people may have through YouTube. Ultimately, gamers want to share and talk about the experiences they've had with whatever game they're plugging away with, feeding off each others enjoyment and excitement, aside from discussing upcoming games, and jumping aboard the current Switch 2 hype train obviously.

It's why we're all here in this forum. Video games are meant to be shared after all. You can't be alone in your hobby because than the hobby itself would instantly become nowhere near as enjoyable. So if hopping online and talking about it, even with a small community of gamers is the only option you have as of now, than take it, because it makes a world of a difference. The few friends that i do have in person aren't really into gaming unfortunately. One of my closest friends growing up, who i still keep in touch with here and there moved on from the hobby some time after the Dreamcast. At least he went out with a bang, because that console was frikkin amazing. lol

Sigh. I miss the days of being a kid and having a large group of friends, that were all about the 8-16 bit era and onwards. There was a constant dynamic or flow of sharing hobbies, whatever they were, through your friends, your 'friends' friends, cousins, and even classmates. Simpler times, back when pop culture was simply magical. When new video game franchises were being born left and right, when generational power leaps were massive, when gaming commercials were loud, highly creative, full of attitude and in your face, when consoles & controllers were so diverse, innovative, different looking and had so much character, plus transitioning from 2D gaming to 3D polygons etc. So glad to of been there to experience it all, starting at the age of 5 back in 89'

Anyways! Yup. I'm just not interested in flooding multiple book cases with plastic video game spines anymore. It was fun, but those days for me at least are over. Heck, having too much stuff rattles my OCD and give me a bit of anxiety. They say when you get older too you tend to down size, get more minimal and purge out the stuff that just winds up being untouched useless clutter. I'm not quite there, but I'm aiming for that in and out convenience. Getting closer to 41 too. I love stuff, but we can't take the stuff with us. And yet, i still keep buying tons of stuff. Loving the semi mid life crisis. lol Where's the time machine when you need it? i want to be 25 again haha.

Born in 84 also? I just turned 41 in January. Joined this site when I was in my late 20's... goodness.

Gaming is all about sharing in enjoyment. Which is why the constant complaining and misery on Twitter with regard to Switch 2 is so bewildering to me. Some people just thrive off conflict. Like my ex wife and most of my ex girlfriends. I prefer peace. Just wanna enjoy what I love and talk to others who enjoy it too.

@JaxonH Agreed. People have their reasons for not getting the Switch 2 or Mario Kart, and they're perfectly valid. I hate the prices too, I really do. I respect the stance of not wanting to support those prices. However, what I can't stand is how some people get so spiteful and vitriolic towards people who show the slightest bit of interest in Switch 2. I'm sure it's more of a vocal minority, but I've seen people get super petty about it, and use their frustration as an excuse to take it out on others. They take it out on people who didn't even have any say in this price stuff, and are just trying to look on the bright side of things. I'm all for disagreeing and having civil discussion regarding this stuff, like I said, I get their perspective. But when people resort to childish behavior and bullying, rather than engage in polite, civil, and respectful conversation, it just becomes a screaming match where nobody wins and everyone just looks like a huge jerk. It doesn't change anything and it ruins everyone's day. If people want their frustrations heard, they can let Nintendo know on their various socials, but please don't take it out on people who didn't have any say on this in the first place, or are just trying to remain positive in spite of these frustrations.

I feel like it's fine to complain about the Switch 2 price or circumstances around it. The issue is when those who complain end up taking it out on others who end up being excited for the console- or start turning that feeling of dislike into a weird obsession.

Personally I'm not happy with the price of the games. I have voiced how I'm unhappy with the price of the games, and how I feel like they're too expensive. I haven't lashed out at anyone who said they're okay with 80 dollar games though. The only time I have combated someone who said they are alright with that price point is when they start to attack people for having opinions differing from their own.

I've seen people act like people who don't like the price-point are ungrateful, or that they're "complaining just to complain." That it's all "manufactured drama" and nothing else. This is the toxic positivity that counteracts toxic negativity- with sensible people kinda being caught in the middle of it all.

"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."

JaxonH

@VoidofLight
Theres always some of that, and it sucks, but the majority of the discourse is centered around negativity. I myself voiced my displeasure at paying $10 more. But I'm still buying it. Does that mean I'm "ok with it"? Some would say yes. If I wasn't I wouldn't be buying it. But I disagree. I can dislike something, but not so much that it dissuades me from all the positives on the other end of the scale comfortably outweighing it.

I said it before and I'll say it again. Criticizing the $10 hike for Mario Kart is justified. And I've voiced my displeasure. Criticizing Welcome Tour not being a pack in is justified. And I've voiced my displeasure. My issue is those who won't get over it and move on already. 37 twitter posts saying the same damn thing. We get it. You hate the price. Nintendo is evil. You're not buying Switch 2 now. Got it the first 5 times you said it. But the horse has been dead for days now. Can we please move on already?

Or Youtubers where they're got 5 videos in a row complaining about every nitpicking headline they can find. They're selling cheaper Switches for price sensitive consumers- the nerve! It's Don Mattrick 2.0!!! Some games require downloads- wth! It's been happening for 8 years with Switch but I'll pretend this is some new phenomenon for rage bait! Upgrades cost $10? Rant. No HALL Effect sticks? Nintendo would be idiots to have not addressed drift but I'll use this to fear monger and rile the viewership up. No achievements? They've never done achievements and gave no indication that would change but let me make an entire video ranting like this is some earthshattering disappointment.

But all the positives to talk about- finally getting voice chat... no video. Adding back buttons on the pro controller and charge grip, no video. New mouse mode and sensitivity settings on a system level, no video. Game specific controller customization now, no video. Gameshare, no video. 120fps HDR WCG VRR 1080p screen, no video. DLSS, first ever console to include it, no video. Awesome games, pffft. Who cares about talking games when we can rant for 20 minutes about how Bill Trinen wore the wrong color tie!

It's ridiculous.

I do agree that the videos of people blatantly trying to make money off of every little negative thing is cringe. Especially since half of this stuff came out within like a day.

The Hall Effect sticks is amazing to me, because it feels like something we're now pretending to care deeply about. I paid attention to plenty of Joycon drift news, maybe this is a recent thing, but I have no memory of the term "Hall Effect" in any way, despite reading and watching so much about the issue until this past week. That was my biggest problem when people complained about the day 1 emulation for N64 in NSO. Those issues were embarrassing for Nintendo, as their emulation of old N64 games in 2021 had clear issue yet they launched them as is, needing to patch their emulated N64 games. That was stupid, and it doubly annoying me as it was a service that felt practically designed for me specifically (the 1-2-3 punch of N64, Genesis and Happy Home Designer to be exact). However, I was still very annoyed at enough of the people complaining, especially the ones who were like "I'll just emulate for free on my own." No you won't, most of you guys have never emulated N64 on PC, or at most emulated a tiny, tiny handful of the most popular games. I know, because N64 emulation has taken an impossible amount of time and work to get good, if even that. and across a decade or so I ran into clear, undeniable issues every time I did emulate N64 games, with no exception for any game I tried (including the amazing experience of needing an updated version of an emulator for Paper Mario and to then...go back to the earlier version for Glover to work).

I'm not interested in lazily defending Nintendo's work (I think I'm the only person that noticed, at least 3 or so years ago, that Winback's boss fights are borderline unplayable on NSO, I have no idea if they were ever fixed either :V), so I don't like people bashing it lazily either.

@JaxonH Honestly, I agree. Some people (especially youtubers) are going waaaay too far. The people who call out others for wanting the system despite the price aren't great. Especially when the consumers have the ability to vote with their wallets. If they want it, that's between their finances and the company they purchase it from. Not a stranger who's observing them. It's the same annoyance I have to usually deal with whenever I want to buy a Pokemon game on modern hardware. I always have people telling me how I'm "apart of the problem," or how I'm a "corporate bootlicker," just because I'm having fun with the series for the first time in ages (even if the games aren't perfect).

For me, I'll probably keep expressing my worries for tariffs, but that's just because I'm concerned about them and the situation is born of uncertainty that's still going until Nintendo announces their next move. However- as for the other negatives, I might voice what I dislike in passing, but I don't think it'll diminish my personal interest in the system even then. Especially when there are ways to get around the price point.

One last thing is that some things feel intentionally overblown. @kkslider5552000 mentioned the Hall-effect sticks being something that people think is a big deal all of a sudden. The issue is that these people literally are choosing to ignore the fact that Nintendo has stated they rebuilt the Joycon from the ground-up with the Joycon 2. Everything about the original controllers were improved from what it sounds like. The attachment to the console eliminating the issues of the console desyncing with the controllers while they're attached (issue I run into with my OLED). The HD rumble is better, creating more of a feeling of genuine texture like how Haptic Feedback is utilized on the PS5. The buttons to detach the controllers are larger. There's literally no chance that Nintendo wouldn't also fix the issues with drift. They just probably figured out their own way of fixing it. Especially given that Hall-Effect utilizes magnets, which wouldn't bode well for a controller that already has magnets built into it in the first place.

"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."

Haruki_NLI

Honestly the general discourse has just been exhausting.

It's the same old "Just get a Steam deck it'll play these games anyway" or "I'll just download the games for free".

It baffles me people wanted these exact improvements to resolution, and frame rate, and games that could be played on the device, with bigger controllers and voice chat built in and a better eShop experience and they somehow thought that would be cheap. Don't show these people the price of bread relative to its costs because they'd go on a three month long rant.

Yes it's similar in price to a PS5. No it's not as capable outright. But it's a handheld based on the 30series GPUs that is delivering almost note for note PS4 performance if not better, and rubbing up against the Series S when docked.

Hell some PS5 games couldn't dream of hitting a native 4K at 60fps.

And yeah, it does cost a lot. Game prices for Nintendo haven't gone up in decades. But people suddenly think the games don't warrant prices above $40 because the effort put into them isn't there? I'm sorry? And that's people on this very site!

Heck, we already saw the PS5 actively go up in price multiple times across regions in the past 4 years. They came out with an expensive line of accessories like a TV remote and a headset that all got replaced two years later by even MORE expensive versions. And by the way, you can't just use a Bluetooth earphones set with it. Has to be those expensive ones. Where's the outrage about that?!

Heck they are taking hardware features OUT and charging a premium to add them back! While upping the price anyway! But that's A-OK, because we expect high prices from them.

It's baffling to me. It's a free market, you don't get to dictate what people spend the money they earned on. That's evil. Outright evil. At the end of the day the market will dictate and rallying to troops to boycott won't do jack all. We've seen that time and time again. So sit your negative asses down and sip on your Capri Sun before it gets too expensive for you. Needs and wants and all that.

Where. I needed that get that out. These social media warriors drive me mad 😂

Negativity drives engagement and being hyperbolic drives views. A lot of social media and YouTube severely push content that will make you mad and get you to engage with it..

I do think a lot of discourse around the Switch 2 is based on poor reporting and people not caring at all outside of getting views, rage-baiting, and console warring. Nintendo didn’t help matters by not being clearer on certain details initially but also I think certain sites and groups on the internet are always just looking to find any topic to rant about and milk for content/views before ditching it and moving on.

This is partially why I find a lot of performative stuff like spamming Twitch chat to be pretty hollow and lame. People rant and do it for a week, get bored and move on to the next thing to hate. In the end just vote with your wallet, buy something you’re comfortable with, and regardless video games are a hobby. The internet isn’t real life.

What is everyone's thoughts on the announced line up of Switch 2 exclusive games? Are you expecting anymore to be announced?

I think the line up is okay when you factor in Pokemon Legends ZA and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond but I'm not sure Hyrule Warriors and Kirby Air Riders will be particularly massive sellers if they are indeed the Switch 2 Exclusive holiday games

Datasun_7

Dhaladog

@Datasun_7 Well apart from the new Donkey Kong & Metroid Prime 4 Beyond I don't think anything else warrants purchase, I do think that we'll see some more first party stuff although not until the holiday season, maybe even a New Super Mario Odyssey style game.

I too think the launch line up is reasonable but won't be paying for any of it's third party games (especially those that aren't exclusives) since I still have a fairly capable gaming pc and games like Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, etc are simply going to look/play better on that. Am interested to see what the new 007 game is going to be like though, and Borderlands 4 looks like it could be a lot of fun. By the way does anyone really think we'll be seeing GTA 6 on Switch 2 hardware, have to say zooming in and around the streets of Miami on the handheld would be an absolute blast!

I myself also have a more capable PC and PS5 and XSX, but the appeal of 3rd party games is the fact they're hybrid handheld. And the difference in how they look on Switch 2 vs those platforms is now fairly minimal. I also love how these Switch 2 versions will have native gyro and mouse aiming.

I can't stand keyboard on PC- I love mouse but the keyboard ruins it. For 10 years I've been chasing "the ultimate controller experience" buying bespoke controllers like the Fragchuck (think a wireless Nunchuk with more buttons for the left had that maps keys from the keyboard) to pair with a mouse. But Switch 2 nails it out of the box. Its been my dream playing games with a single half-controller in my left hand using real analog to move with, and a mouse in my right hand for precision aiming. I can't believe Nintendo did it. All these years and it's about to become a reality.

Honestly I think the 3rd party support is underrated. Having a current Fromsoft game, a brand new game from Fromsoft, current Street fighter and high profile games like Cyberpunk were basically the dream people had for Switch.

Just think it’s neat. It’s been a while since a Nintendo console received such modern games as third party support
