Poll: So, How Would You Rate The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct?

There you have it… your Switch Pro.
It really does rather feel like a mid-gen update than a brand new console.
Just more of the same but this time you have to pay extra for everything.

Enhanced versions and remasters of games we already played.
This was absolutely missing the fun and charm and excitement that Nintendo was used to be known for.
Everything was so underwhelming and frankly disappointing.

The focus was more on online play, digital experience, subscription serves and all the stuff that seems to be so important these days.

It truly feels like Nintendo lost something special in the last couple of years but today marked the end of an era it feels like.
I’m glad I witnessed the release of the original NES up until (what might be the peak of Nintendo) the Wii U and 3DS era.

All my opinions of course. But I had to share it because I need to find out if someone shares similar feelings.
If you are happy, I’m happy for you though. Enjoy it!

9/10 - Loved it. A handful of exclusives as well as multiple PS4 ports. Exactly what I wanted. Can't wait to see Sony Ponies frothing at the mouth over The Duskbloods exclusivity.

Why is the article showing the results for the March direct?

It was aggressively okay. They spent way too much time on the stupid C button and on the "we have Discord at home" features, and lol @ that explore Switch 2 game being PAID. But otherwise neat.

The value proposition for the Switch 2 upgrades is interesting because they're more than just better fidelity and more RAM, they actually have extra features and stages and the like. The Kirby and the Forgotten Land upgrade is the only one I'm eyeing, as I didn't quite do ALL the post-game content and this is a good excuse to revisit a good game.

Easy 9/10 for me, while not a lot of first party’s the stuff they showed looked amazing and overall left me excited for the console as well as its games.

Next direct they’ll start selling tickets for it

They turned on the hose of announcements for this new system. This was the best Direct in a very long time, first time I can say 10/10. The Switch 2 will have great appeal to anyone who wants to play games; mobile gamers are proving to be more loyal than the hardcore ones.

I went from "yay Mario Kart" to "yay Mario Kart".

Best Direct of all time! Kirby Air Ride returns, Mario Kart Worlds looking like the best of the series, Kirby Forgotten Land DLC, and a new DK 3D game! LUIGI’S MANSION IS COMING TO SWITCH 2!!!

Also, the specs seem to be crushing people’s expectations. 120 FPS is INSANE

@ManaOwls How is this Mid Gen in anyway? Brother we are getting 4K 60 FPS on this thing. The console even supports 120FPS HDR. The upgrade is phenomenal here, far more than I was personally expecting.

All the brand new games look great. I feel like for a new console though, one more heavy hitter would have been optimal.

Strong selling points, but doesn't have the wow factor like the original Switch presentation, that tells me "I must have it!"
Definitely expect people to hold off and wait until a better line-up comes or what the experts think of the actual hardware.

@Rusty_Ruby I think we’ll get that announcement later. Once Mario Kart World was announced as a launch title, I knew a new Mario 3d game was off the table for this direct. DK Bonanza seems to be the lead new game for the Switch 2.

Anyway, solid 9/10. It does just about everything it needed to do and what it didn't do is excusable given the circumstances. My biggest gripe is no 3D Mario (did it get internally delayed AGAIN?), but Mario Kart being open world and open world DK is a good enough substitute for now. The price is a bit more than I'd like, and I think they may be nickel and diming us with Switch 2 Editions, but given the economic conditions I don't really blame them (I blame the orange turd for that one). But there seems to be enough to start off with that it's close to 2017 levels (not quite there, but close enough).

Well, I'd probably say a 7.5/10, but I'll round it up to 8. The hardware announcements were great and the 1st party games are fantastic too, but I wasn't really feeling it for the 3rd party games.

Decent i guess. New DK so yay for that! Gamecube on switch is cool for those who never experienced it but locked behind subscription sucks. Oh well every noteworthy game i already bought and still play on my original Gamecube.

Looks like Nintendo will finally have a system third-party developers won't be snickering at. Bring on last gens hottest ports!

It was pretty good ngl. Although I think what is more concerning is the pricing of the games though. Hearing it will be priced 80 dollars for Mario Kart World at least.

I was definitely hoping for Monolith Soft to reveal their hand with a new game. But ah well. Still excited for lots of things on offer for the Switch 2! Still intent on buying day one.

It was fantastic and Nintendo brought it!! The hardware specs are better than I expected. The video and voice chat is finally happening. The first party game reveals looked awesome. GameCube games. Third party support.

There’s no way they could match the energy of the Switch 1 reveal, which was a wild shock about the WiiU. Switch2 is an across the board improvement over the original and I don’t see how this is any different than what the PS5 is to PS4 and the Xbox Series vs the previous one.

5/10. None of the hardware features appealed to me in the slightest. None of the 3rd party ports do anything for me since there are literally better ways to experience those games. So all that was left was exclusives. The fromsoft game was confirmed to be a multi-player game so my interest has dropped utterly lol. Mario kart looks nice but the real kart racer star for me was Kirby Air Riders. And I hate the awful DK redesign and was hoping for a new 3d Mario instead so this one while cool didn't exactly wow me. So yea it was pretty timid. But that doesn't mean my fire emblems and xenoblades aren't coming in the future so I look forward to that

I was excited for the Switch 2 but this is awful and will affect the whole industry.

Best Direct of all time. TotK warriors, enhanced versions of my two favorite games, and a YUNOBO AMIIBO I AM LITERALLY SO HYPED

Not great overall, especially compared to Switch 1,
but gets points for trying something different by launching with a Donkey or Zelda adventure, and with Mario Kart.

So far I don't see an exclusive that makes me wanna buy it unlike the original Switch launch. I got my switch, I got my PS5, I wanna believe I'm good for a year or so.

Not great, honestly, I already have a PC for third party games with better performance. Mario Kart looks nice, but I really don't care for DK (no offense) so I'm not that hyped.

I'm not all that surprised that Animal Crossing got snubbed as usual, but it still stings how poorly it seems the fans get treated even after how much money it made Nintendo...

Mario Kart is cool

Bravely Default remaster is cool... But I'm expecting that to come in other platforms sooner or later. Then it's just ports upon port that I could play on other platforms right now if I so wanted.

Basically all it amounted to is for me to not want to play Metroid Prime 4 when it releases because I don't want to be playing an inferior version.

I don't think I can justify paying 500+ for it, maybe once a new Smash is announced or something.

I'd give it an 8 or 9 - the new hardware features look fun, Mario Kart looks incredible, I'm delighted to see DK back, and there were so many other little things that I'm excited about. Slightly freaking out about the game prices, but I suppose they didn't mention those in the Direct so I can't mark it down for that...

New Mario Kart, DK, and Kirby? Not quite as earth-shattering as the Switch 1 one back in 2017, but I really, REALLY liked what I saw.

Doesn’t really feel like there is much reason to get the system at launch. Plus $80 for physical games is pretty bad. Overall mid.

I'd give it an 8. Mario Kart World looks pretty dang great but I'm not a huge Mario Kart fan so it's not enough to get me there on launch day, especially at the high price. I'm intrigued by the new DK but I'm really missing a new Mario or Zelda mainline entry that would force me to get this day one. Still, a From Software exclusive? Silksong? Impressive.

It was great. The improvements seem significant enough and the games announced were awesome. Specially the Fromsoftware exclusive.

I think I was maybe more "impressed" by it then I was "excited" if that makes sense. I think it's impressive that they're getting so many AAA games on day one, even if they are ports. The new Nintendo games they announced also seem cool even though I'm not that interested in them. (Donkey Kong, Kirby Air Ride etc)

The whole C button thing was kind of underwhelming, giving us what we've already been able to do with a Discord account for years.....plus that paid for tutorial was a weird misstep.

I'd personally give it a 6/10 in terms of the games shown off but if it put my fairness hat on I guess I'd bump it up to a 7/10 since I can see how it had some impressive games in it, just not so much for me personally.

Best direct by a country mile. Top Nintendo games, superb third party titles and fabulous indies.

I found it underwhelming. Maybe if Mario Kart hadn't been teased it would have scored higher for me. The console itself, to me, lacks that one bit of innovation that every Nintendo console before it has had. Voice chat, great, but that's something that has been in the industry 20 years. I'm excited for the console but just saying the announcement didn't add much spark to what we already knew, in my opinion.

Cool to see the new features, and I’m absolutely curious about what games the mouse feature will be used for besides the wheelchair ball game they showed off.

The games look promising, ESPECIALLY Donkey Kong Bananza. Maybe the biggest highlight for me in terms of games, and I absolutely love how much more Rare-inspired, cartoony, and colorful it works. Though, I was a bit bummed out by the small amount of first-party games in there, but they should have a June Direct around the release and hopefully show off some more first-parties. Also thought them charging for a tech demo is absurd, same for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrades being separate.

Seeing what the C button was for was a bit disappointing, but it’s nice that people will be able to voice chat on Switch instead of relying on a phone. Though, I feel like the voice chat and camera have the potential to be misused by some.

The GameCube games sound like a wonderful addition to NSO, and although I probably won’t get it, it makes me glad to see more retro games on there! Fine Direct, and I can’t wait to see what else they have in store for the Switch 2!

There's a lot to love in this direct. I was disappointed we didn't see anything from Microsoft but overall it didn't need it.

I'm confused as to why they're releasing Kirby AirRiders and Mario Kart World. Do we need two racers even if they're quite different. I'm really looking forward to Mario Kart World and I'm glad AirRide fans get a sequel.

DK Bonanza came out of nowhere but I love the character they've added to this game. Looks like it could be really special.

I'm happy we're getting GameCube games for Switch Online. I'm already looking forward to laughing at how bad I'll be at F-Zero GX. Playing Wind Waker again will be welcome even if the second half is a bit underbaked.

Some real surprises as to the 3rd party ports there. Hopefully we see them soon and well optimized. Silksong, MK World, Kirby announcements and 3D DK were highlights, but a lot a very interesting stuff there.

Not interested as of now in "enhanced visual remasters" of NS1 games.

Could have seen more first party stuff, was surprised we didn't.

Also microSD express cards aren't plentiful and not produced in that high a storage yet.

I was very disappointed. I can't vote, I think it's the wrong poll, but I wouldn't rate it more than 5.

So the user manual is interactive - ok - but sold separately?
Mario Kart open world didn't catch my interest, I'd say it's missing the point of the whole MK games.

Console itself looks very capable, if it can run Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate and Borderlands 4 (both not on PS4) then third-party support will be very good , having both Mario Kart and DK almost back to back for launch is incredible and I’m sure there’s still plenty they haven’t announced, remasters are meh, but prices are unjustifiably egregious for everything, console, games and accessories.

Overall exactly what I expected with only the prices being what I didn’t like.

I thought it was incredible.

Hardware looks great and exceeded my expectations.

We know that even the biggest games are going to run on it and we get a gamecube library to boot!

I am looking at my other consoles and thinking it might be time to move them on.

I sadly, cannot rate it, as on a scale from 1-10, it is simultaneously a 10, AND a -10.

The games look great but underwhelming there was no first party adventure game shown for launch day, was expecting the new 3D Mario game by now at least. I feel Mario Kart should be the Christmas game

I give it a 9/10. It's an excellent direct but the stream got latency issue 75% of the way into the presentation. The March direct gets a 8/10 from me, it would had easily gotten a 7/10 but Patapon, Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remakes, Metroid Prime 4 Beyond, and SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered makes up for it. Also Silksong didn't show up as a focus in the presentation, it was just included in a reel as if it was a generic game. Quite disappointing.

Was fine; pretty expected which made it a bit underwhelming. Was hoping for more of a wow factor, especially given how it's felt like they've been avoiding saying anything. Then again, maybe we're the victims of our own hype. Solid 6/10.

Here for Wind Waker, Hades 2, and Silk Song. Mario Kart World also is pretty great. Outside of that, most stuff just didn't quite scratch my personal itch.

7/10 for me. Didn’t touch on nearly enough first party. No Mario 3d? Could have used a lot more “upgrade ready” game list (plus prices). A few more GameCube games ready at launch. Really was hoping for master chief collection. And I guess it does nothing improvement wise for old switch games, which really disappointed me most of all since I have 800+ game backlog.

But I still pre ordered. Or, got in line rather.

I honestly didn’t see anything that got me excited. It’s just a bunch of stuff I’ve already been playing on Steam mixed with a few new Nintendo games that still have the same aesthetic as they did on GameCube/Wii/Wi U. Like there’s not much graphical upgrade to them. I’m not even sure if I want to preorder now until I see something that I just GOT to play. My FOMO is non-existent at the moment. The launch lineup is incredibly underwhelming. What’s funny is that they were showcasing the chat feature when everyone else has been doing it for like 25 years (first games I used voice extensively was StarCraft and Halo 2 over 20 years ago).

4/10. Already played almost everything shown, beside mario kart and DK. Prices are out of this world. This is 3DS launch all over again.

4-5. Looking forward to the hardware, but the launch titles are all underwhelming for me. Feels like an upgraded switch which is both excellent and not exciting at the same time.

I get to play PS4/PS5 games on the go on Switch 2. Plus all the first party games, this is a dream come true.

Started strong with MK World, followed by 20 minutes of tedium as they showed game chat and the console itself, which we had already seen in the previous announcement.

The games shown in the second half were a decent selection, but nothing there for me personally. Definitely won't be buying day one, but I wasn't planning to anyway, so nothing has changed there.

@ManaOwls Isn't this the same as the SNES? It's a more powerful, more capable version of the same console.

It started great with Mario Kart, then I started to get bad vibes with Drag x Drive and when they started to show old games I can play on my PlayStation 5, I got it's-over-vibes. The new Donkey game seems kinda fun, but the colours are so weird and agressive.

Air ride looked good, but after Mario Kart World, I do not think, that I would need a new arcade racer for a good while.

I'm torn between a 8-9/10. I very much enjoyed the direct but the only new 'gimmicks' it showcased were the camera, mic and mouse controls. Would have loved to have seen the OS and eshop features, and also some new 1st party titles like a 3D Mario. Also not happy with the game pricing at all.

Points deducted for the US feed crashing. And no mention of the greater than expected price hikes

Still not sold on the Mouse. There's a reason I don't use a mouse with my laptop when sat on the couch. It's the same reason I do use a mouse when sat at a desk.

I'm not sure what Nintendo was supposed to do differently? The industry is a much, MUCH more different place now than where it was in 2016. Nintendo can't just outright release a powerhouse console and compete with PS5 as there is already a large fan base over there.

They are still operating in their own little corner of the market where no one else can really touch them and now we get the benefit of having almost PS5/Xbox quality games and it feels like a TRUE hybrid console now.

The only thing missing is the killer lineup that the Switch 1 had in 2017 but again, they can't afford to dump a load of games out and risk loading sales. Might as well strategically release them

More power, more games. Great. Concerned about micro sd express card expansion... 256gb is all I find atm, don't we need more? Also no eshop news. Hope they've read the room on that one.

• DK was great, best of the presentation
• Bunch of 5 year old third party games that I already have in other consoles

Just saw the price of Mario kart on the Nintendo store 90€ for a physical copy, 80€ for digital. They completely went Bananas again at Nintendo

It was an ok Direct. Some really cool stuff like Yoshi's Woolly World for Switch 1 (the boxart was shown in the Switch 1 section in between LM3 and Link's Awakening), Mario Kart World, FFVII Remake, DK, Kirby Air Ride, Hyrule Warriors. But it clashes with some very disappointing stuff like the prices, how Nintendo Switch 2 Editions are handled, the C button functionality and GCN NSO being chosen over remastering GCN games.

Gave almost everything I wanted but we're definitely gonna have to pay for it (even down to tech demos).

I'll wait a year or so until software is regularly discounted.

Basically the only thing I found myself all that hyped for was Bravely Default, the rest kind of just made me less interested. Also the video itself was just dull, there was no reason to spend 10 minutes on, "We added screen sharing."

Well, day 1 anyway, since I am a hardcore NIntendo player and only play Nintendo consoles.

9/10 from me, what they shown of the Hardware looked good and they showed a lot of games. Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bonanza, Hyrule Warriors and Bravely Default Remastered are all day one.

Only thing missing was the UI reveal.

11/10, that completely blew my expectations out of the water!

It really could've been better. Few first party games announced, left out some of the finer details about the console and conveniently left out the key detail of the console price and the outrageous cost of physical games, and no word on the paid upgrade versions. Also, I'm 99% sure we're in for a bump up in NSO subscription price, which they also conveniently didn't mention (if it happens)

Drag x Drive showed some imagination but also looked half baked. Mario Kart looked polished but so far lacking a spark. The tech demo that they expect us to pay for looked dry and ugly and cold. This was an extremely underwhelming presentation. Where has the magic gone?

Anyways, probably a 9/10 for me. Not perfect as I would’ve preferred another major game reveal or two… but it was damn good. Looking forward to June!

Not much for me and I am ok with that.

Way overpriced, all around and underwhelming. I do not care about the mouse gimmick, nor the games Nintendo showed. Air Ride? That will flop, against Mario Kart no less. The tech demo, and the wheelchair game? Hard pass.

DK looks cool but I can wait on that and pay much less used or on sale, if ever.

For me, it was truly spectacular, maybe because I'm guessing Nintendo's strategy more than the majority.

It wasn't SUPER great, but it was enough. Mario Kart in particular looks amazing and is gonna keep me nice and busy. I just wish it wasn't so expensive.... yeesh.

I thought overall it was very good and nice to see Nintendo give a better breakdown of specs for a change.
Some great games , although a lot of the 3rd party titles might be a hard sell for a double dip at those prices.

Mario Kart World looks brilliant and can’t wait to get some Air Riders action once again.

Solid direct over all - main disappointments for me were no new FZ Zero game and would have still liked to see console priced slightly lower but hey ho.

Still 9/10 and now the clock ticks on pre orders - am sure scalpers will be selling soon enough!

Honestly, all things considered? Not bad.
Yes, there weren't very many HUGE announcements, but consider this: the Switch 1 HAD to make an impact, after the disaster that was the Wii U. The Switch 2, on the other hand, has room to take it slower, as it can coast off the success of it's predecesor until some of the hidden bigger titles are ready.
Yes, the upgrades are kinda strange, but considering that they're pretty much just Switch 2 exclusive DLC with extra enhancements, I'd say it's excusable. A bit strange they aren't included in the NSO Expansion Pass.
And yes, the prices are ubsurd, but considering world events, the prices, while still terrible, are at least understandable.
Plus, not one, but TWO Kirby announcements? Hell yeah!
Overall, a solid 8/10.

It opened and closed big with Mario Kart and everything in between seemed focused on OG Switch game upgrades. Nowhere near the revelation the original Switch reveal was in terms of launch window titles. Mario Kart World looks incredible, but it could be a long wait for other Switch 2 exclusive first-party games to begin building up the catalog.

I hate to sound negative, but overall it was quite disappointing. It just doesn't feel like a true successor. This would've been a fine upgrade - if it was released two years ago.

I especially didn't like the fact that they are trying to monetise every single thing they can...

Mid-8 for me. I liked pretty much the entire thing, but the only things that actively excited me were the Hyrule Warriors and From Software exclusive.

Donkey Kong is probably the showstopping, unannounced, one-more-thing moment for a lot of people. But I'm lukewarm to it, so I was left wanting.

It was a great presentation, but we all want magic and this was not it for me.

meh, makes me wonder what the N software team have been up to all those years, maybe spread too thin and not let the magic recharge yet for production releases, will get switch2 when there's a new Mario and Zelda, not enough currently esp as would have to pay to get improvements to existing games

The stream issues with audio lag and freezing was the worst in Nintendo Direct history. They only showed five games that we didn’t know about before in the whole hour by my count (Mario Kart World, Wheelchair Basketball, Tech demo “game”, Air Ride, and DK). The reat of the show was wasting way too much time on game chat and games we already played before or third party games. They also could have had more info on preorder and pricing, but that would be too much negativity in the direct considering the price increase. I give it a 5 because of all those negatives, but the games shown did look fun.

Too much focus on silly gimmicks and Kinetic 2.0. This feels too much Wii and Wii U for me.
Many has probably already downplayed SW2 as a kiddy console despite of the sheer amount of mature rated games shown here.

@TerribleTerabytes Just because the system supports 4K/60fps (or 120fps) doesn't mean games will run at the performance. Even The PS5 can't run games consistently at 4k/60fps.

I’m gonna give it a 9. a couple games are definitely must haves (I NEED AIR RIDERS!!!) and the built in voice chat is definitely good for those that don’t wanna touch discord with a 20ft pole.

Didn't knock my socks off, but it was alright. Personally I was hoping for more from Capcom or Konami, like a new Resident Evil or Castlevania.

The hardware exceeded my expectations, and we already had a pretty decent idea of the hardware from the leak response teaser. Already a guaranteed preorder for me. Mario Kart World also exceeded my expectations and pushed this from guaranteed preorder to "I NEED THIS RIGHT NOW." The rest of the Direct could've been a static Mario PNG and this is still 10/10 for me. Actually, the promise of Luigi's Mansion 1 on a Switch makes it 11/10.

Mario Kart World looks good. Otherwise, not a single game or feature that seems at all interesting to me plus everything is overpriced. You even have to pay for them to tell you how to use it. FFS.

It was a 6 Nintendo's own stuff at times was too heavily focused on the camera and telling you to upgrade everything for a price. I was definitely happy about Mario Kart's open world style though and Metroid Prime 4 supporting a 120fps mode even more that the actual handheld mode will support that. The third party stuff definitely made it seem worthwhile though From Software selling me on it with their exclusive game.

Considering that this is the Switch 2's first direct, this is a solid 10/10 with some great games announced. We won't be worried about the lack of games once the system launches. So many bangers day 1

7/10 - would have been an 8 for me, but there were too many technical issues with the presentation. The audio was off and during the 2nd partner showcase, the video froze. It distracted and took away from the announcements. I am, however, super excited for the new DK!

8/10. Despite so many launch games, not a whole lot interest me, and no Metroid Prime 4 release date, damn it! Mario Kart World and Fast Fusion are the two instant purchases.

PS: I must admit, I'm impressed with the chat feature! Not just actually chatting, to also see friends' screens, and even friends themselves, is something I never envisaged.

The handful of clowns calling it a Switch Pro are so delusional. The Switch 2 is double the specifications of the Switch. A Pro comes mid cycle anyway and sells besides the base model. Switch 2 is a successor, like PS5 to PS4. Only because the media were so corrupt with their ludicrous rumours and propaganda that we even talk about a Switch Pro. It's dead. It was never alive. Move on! For the record, there WON'T be a Switch 2 Pro!!!

9/10 A lot of the games I'm excited for, despite having some of 'em on pc. I don't mind double dipping honestly, I have a few hopes for some games to come on it, like Granblue Fantasy. I'm getting it day one for sure, the prices don't bug me too much, 499 with the system and game I'm fine with.

Looks good with a lot of gimmicks I will ignore so it only feels like a Pro model to me rather an a new console. Mario Kart is the only highlight and it’s not enough for me to buy, certainly with the new prices which puts me off entirely. There isn’t really a game I can think of that I need or willing to spend so much for.

Don't want to come off as some kind of sad crybaby fanboy, but it was kinda average and being a Mario fan bitterly disappointed there was no news of a new 3D Mario game.

All I really wanted was a more powerful Switch with fun announcements and this brought it, though with a few “monkeys paw” moments (like backwards compatibility coming at a cost — but at least there is new content).

That said in my long wait for the Switch 2 I picked up a Steamdeck which kind of tempered my enthusiasm today. I already have a strong portable device, and I can already play GameCube games on the go. But I’ll be here day 1 for the Nintendo exclusive and to make memories with my kids/introduce them into games.

It was great but there were a few titles that felt a bit lackluster (like the Bravely Default remaster)

I really would have loved to see something bigger from Square.
Sure, we'll get Final Fantasy VII remake. But I was really holding my breath for something we haven't seen before (Like the rumored Final Fantasy IX remake)

Hopefully that'll be announced soon as well.

MKW and the Yakuza 0 Remaster should tide me over until the new From Software game (and DK!) releases next year.

It was pretty decent. HDR Support was unexpected for me. It's a pretty good addition.

Honestly one of the best Direct presentations Nintendo has ever put out and a great console launch. The hype is real and so close I can almost touch it.

I didn’t like it at all and neither did the other ladies I watched it with. Sorely disappointed that there’s no animal crossing game and no girly games either. None of us are buying the system.

Honestly shocked to see this considered anything less than a 9/10...it was a definite 10/10 for me. Perhaps the most excited I've been for a new console ever.

I was sold the moment they showed off Mario Kart, but they just kept showing more and more. Looking like a strong start to the system.

The Good:
Mario Kart and DK look excellent.
Third party support feels all around strong with old and not so old games.
Gamecube library opens in a promising note.

The average:
Price, hardware capabilities and release date is just as I expected them to be.
Completely indifferent to the camera and the communication stuff but I can see how it can be a big hit with families and streamers.
Game sharing features look nice, but I hope it catches on.
Switch 2 edition games seem all over the place right now, some games include brand new features (and in Mario Party case, many of them inaccesible for the owners without the additional camera accesory), others if not most upcoming S2-edition games will just increase the fps and resolution. The price of them will also be a mess I fear, best possible scenario would be that some of them were included with Switch Online expansion pack.

The bad:
No legacy SD card support is a complete letdown.

That direct was insane! What a reveal! I wish there was 1 or 2 more 1st party games but an open world mario kart on day 1 and a new 3d DK a month later? SOLD! Best direct in years. Also.... AN EXCLUSIVE FROM SOFTWARE GAME?!?!?

@ManaOwls I understand how you feel. I kept waiting to be blown away but it never happened. I felt exactly how you did about this being more like a Switch Pro. I have a huge backlog and will keep my OLED for as long as possible. I don't feel a strong desire to run out and purchase a Switch 2 on launch or soon after. I'll wait for an inevitable revision and hopefully more games that actually interest me. I do hope that whoever buys one enjoys it

Honestly just the sheer RELIEF of this Direct finally airing after SO many months, even years, of rumours, good grief!!
I think it was a fantastic presentation, though I would have liked prices on games and Upgrade patches, and I'm a little underwhelmed with how existing/older third-party titles look on it (Street Fighter 6, etc). They seem a bit underpowered still, which is a shame but I guess you have to take portability into account too.
The new features look really exciting and very Nintendoey, which I love to see. I really hope it brings back the 'fun' to its homescreen this time, too.
Overall, really impressed. MK and DK and that new FromSoft game look incredible!

The Switch 2 direct took me from "mild curiosity" to "actively annoyed and slightly disgusted".

So I would certainly not be rating it highly, to say the least.

At least last week's announcements gave me things to look forward to.

What I saw was ample 3rd party support with A-List games. Lots that we were never gonna get on Switch 1.
I saw the ability to enhance my current library.
I saw a new Hyrule Warriors game, an incredibly fun looking Donkey Kong game, and confirmation that Civ VII will be Switch 2-Enhanced.
I saw the big obligatory goofy "Here's how your new system works" game with a price tag because Nintendo. It's outrageous and of course I'm gonna get it as long as they don't think they can charge $50 for it.

I am a happy camper. Now kindly confirm third party preorder information so I can stop refreshing the Best Buy website.

I think there is enough there to keep me excited - also Summer Gamesfest is like 2 months away

@ScalenePowers I'm about 99% sure that the certain games that WON'T be compatable are stuff like Ring Fit, where the controller hooked into a special peripheral.

It was an okay showing for me. I wasn't blown away and kept waiting to see anything that would make me really excited. It's also ridiculous how Nintendo is charging for that Switch 2 tour "game". That should be a free pack in like Astro Bot's Playroom. Just a ridiculous thing for Nintendo to do but not unexpected with them. I'm also irked about the SD card issue. This is going to cause so much frustration and confusion from a lot of people. Nothing about this hardware says it needs a new micro card standard. PC handhelds are doing just fine with regular sd cards and they are a lot more powerful than the Switch 2. I don't know what Nintendo was thinking with this move

I got exactly what I wanted. A price in the range I expected, a launch date (sooner than expected) and third party support (including games I actually want. Which is a bonus for me.) which gives me confidence in the system’s longevity.

Still gonna wait on the Zelda version but I will see how they allow purchases via the online store. Happy to prebuy to show support (Street Fighter especially).

Got some announcements that will test my vow to wait. (SF6, Hyrule Warriors, kunitsu-gami, Yakuza and the Zelda enhanced editions. ) but since the microSD cards have changed I will have to wait until they have larger cards at a lower price point. I will watch for what has enhancements as that may impact what I buy.

@ManaOwls I get the sentiment, but if you thought Nintendo was perfect before the Switch, you might wanna get a history book. The 3DS and Wii U era especially was abysmal. I love the 3DS, but it wasn't until halfway through the Switchs life that we saw how good it was because of how awful the 2010s were. 2016 was their worst year, period. The only thing I see wrong with this Direct are the new storage requirements and the continued use of NSO. Otherwise, Nintendo is still the same they were 40 years ago: making great new games we will cherish for years to come. At the end of the day, it's the games that matter.

I gave it a 7/10. The system and it's new features look cool. The gameshare feature looks promising, the new social tools look nice if they actually get used, I really want to play Mario Kart World and the new DK game, the release date is very soon!, and third party titles look great.

I gave it less points because the presentation glitched at one point, the price (it wasn't even in the presentation) was higher than I would like it, the camera is sold separately, the tech demo game is not included, and there was a lot of emphasis on having to re-purchase games and/or re-releases.

If the camera and tech demo game were included at $400, I would be less critical of the price being higher.

I was happy. Lots of great games. The system looks like a great upgrade. Gamecube games. I'll give it a 9 out of 10.

A solid 8 for me, DxM, Metroid, Hades, MK9 and silksong are the games im interested on. Elden ring, hogwarts, SF6, the punk game and FF, already have those on PS5. As for DK, i don't know what to think of just yet, to me it looks so much as the ratchet and clank launch game on PS5, so well see, the camera should have been built-in on the console (hopefully there will be a 3rd party one to put on the top usbc port, a speaker on the controller its an industry standard at this point in time. A more than decent start i think but with a few major flaws IMO

I'm most disappointed in Nintendo's cheapness. You have to pay for a tech demo? They spent a long part of the presentation talking about this camera that you have to pay extra for? $90 physical games? At least you finally get a price break for buying digital.

The new Donkey Kong game looks good, though.

An overall 8 by first impressions. A whole bunch of juicy moments and announcements somewhat dampened by the frixel parts (plus the hardware used to prop them up - a 1080p screen where even Deck had a 800p one? Seriously? /)_-) ), reliance on locally mythical memory card format and the whole mouse mode talk not quite addressing the elephant in the room I commented on before (at least I dare assume Drag x Drive will support standard schemes handheld? The motion-heavy ARMS did IIRC). Stuff like a Mario Kart open-worlder, a Red Faction-bitten Donkey Kong (in the most complimenting sense), more playable Zelda for the god of playable Zeldas and the third party wishlist siegers from Cyberpunk, Borderlands 4 and Star Wars Outlaws to the return of Survival Kids franchise (the core of the franchise for me but I'd be in the market for something Lost in Blue down the road as well)... and a Gamecube NSO application?😳

Better enjoy those 256 Gb of internal memory until later updates.😆 And good luck ignoring said updates when they are already set to include a friggen Path of Radiance.

@Judal27 last time I checked, there was literally no better way to experience a video game than one ENABLING you to experience more/any of the video game. And Switch itself has been the most vibrant illustration of that idea.

@EvenStephen7 I don't recall any "BC at a cost" there.🤔 Only "NS2 Edition" upgrades are priced, and they vary from largely nonessential platform-exclusive DLC in all but name to completely redundant "performance boosts". Forgotten Land's extra story is the only one I'd so much as scratch my chin about so far, but I don't have the game itself yet anyway. The rest, which still seems like the absolute majority of Switch games, can be played on a new machine at zero added cost.

It was honestly a 10/10 for me. The power of the console has surprised me. Mario Kart looks incredible. Donkey Kong by the Odyssey team coming in July!!! Drag x Drive looks like it's by the ARMS team, which I loved, definitely interested.. GameCube!!! BOTW and TOTK upgrades are brilliant. Free upgrades for Expansion Pack owners. A possible exclusive by From Software. Bond by the Hitman devs. Amazing 3rd party support.

I hear your complaints, but for me 95% of your issues are pluses in my mind. And I DEFINITELY saw plenty of the Nintendo charm and magic in this video.

The console itself seems capable and im curious to see what kind of games it opens itself up to though theres also the drawback of how a lot of games will likely need mandatory downloads and installs (at least going by the "key card" stuff on the JP site)

At the very least the virtual game card thing seems to mention that they are keeping the ability to play games offline for anything that isnt on NSO.

Price related stuff seems excessive in places not helped by stuff like Tariffs,

Games wise not too many first party releases but Mario kart and DK do look interesting, happy to see third partys jump in a the ground floor though.

Chat stuff seems like a step forward for nintendo at the very least though still feels like theres a lot of catching up to do, will most likely just use discord personally but nice for those who will use it.

Gamecube stuff for me was a big monkeys paw moment mainly because its only available on subscription and no option to buy/keep, though thats more my thoughts on NSO as a whole.

Overall mixed feelings about certain things but hoping for the best.

Brilliant presentation. Showcased so much of the console, they gave us answers and not left much else to speculation. The only down point of the whole thing is the paid for tech demo, it’s 1-2 Switch all over again but worse. But hey, you don’t have to buy it. Other than that, I can not wait. I asked for more platforming in Mario Kart, a 3D DK game, Ridge Racer port (ok, so I hoped it was a collection for Namco Museum 2...but I'll take it.), Cyberpunk 2077. Honestly, as a gamer and a Nintendo fan, I think someone somewhere was reading my mind. Very, very good. Future looks bright!

Mariokart world and DK bananza look great, and its nice to see Starwars Outlaw on it (and a announcement for Kirby air riders), and a few other things. But other then that: Not much graphical improvement (well maybe in the DK game. I couldn't watch it in better quality), terrible price, probably terrible game prices, probably terrible microsd prices. I guess I'll keep on trucking with my current Switch for a while, DK has to wait!

Honestly, I don't think Nintendo needed to show more than they did. This console is going to sell out constantly for at least the first year, no matter what. The demand is already there, they don't need to burn through their biggest announcements just to convince an audience that's already planning to buy.

From a business perspective, it makes more sense to space out those bigger reveals to maintain hype and momentum over time. At the end of the day, Nintendo is a company, and their ultimate goal is profit, just like any other business. This Direct was about setting the stage. The rest will come when it makes sense commercially.

Gave it an 8, would better if they bundled something. I miss things like wii sports, where everyone played the game, and a good tech demo. The one they have doesn't even look that great and you have to buy it.

So... I really enjoyed watching the direct and am excited about the hardware upgrades. But the launch titles are honestly weak, and the prices are high (it's hard to eat the higher prices on everything — console, games, peripherals). I gave this direct a 5/10. The hardware upgrades ARE neat, and it will be interesting to see how the mouse controls will be utilized in future titles. Nothing from the current Switch 2 exclusive lineup wowed me. As I've said elsewhere, I don't feel like I need to buy it on day 1.

Well, I don't know how to rate it. I will say that having a new Mario Kart game at launch is a huge plus for the Switch 2. It addresses an issue I've had with so many Nintendo system launches in the past, where it feels like we didn't get a solid multiplayer game I liked until like after the first year (Switch was really bad at this, but isn't alone).

They've justified the creation of a new Mario Kart game with it, too, as it is a different enough game from Mario Kart 8 (which was fantastic and left me wondering how they could go forward).

Everything else, though??? Not super hyped. I didn't expect to be, really, though. I knew that going in. I suppose I'm turning into a grouchy old lady because I just can't feel that excitement I used to have back in the day for a new system launch. Also, there's no way in the world I will be able to get this at launch. I'd still sooner invest in a Steam Deck, IMO.

Just can’t understand the people who say this isn’t a significant upgrade from the past model or this was a “meh” direct. Wake up and realize what we were coming from people.

@ManaOwls I agree with you. Gaming and consoles, like a lot of things, have become homogenous. In the race to cater to everyone they have each become like everything. I fell in love with Nintendo for their first party exclusive titles, and the unique experience from those. With the exception of MK World and DK Bananza, I was underwhelmed. There wasn’t much in the way of first party titles - the emphasis was on 3rd party ports, remasters, paywall upgrades and (effectively) rereleases of Gamecube titles and the opportunity to buy a peripheral so I can watch myself balancing koopa shells on my head.

I have a big backlog of games so I knew that I would not be buying a S2 until the OLED equivalent is released in 2032. By which time I am hoping that there will be some quality games featuring Mario, Pikmin, Kirby, Kid Icarus, Zelda and Fire Emblem.

Strong start with Mario Kart but overall, pretty poor. Pacing was way off and it lacked some of the most important information.

Not great in my opinion, the cheesy American actors playing Mario kart was cringe. Games definitely not exciting. Except for Metroid, Donkey Kong, Mario kart.

@thehoppypoppy The price of upgrading the performance of a Switch 1 game I already own is something I am interested in knowing. I expect it will be in the £20/$25 area, which feels a bit annoying.

All this time they had and that was it.

Where are the new games? Mostly enhanced games, ports or already played games.
Mario Kart is beat to death.
Where is animal crossings? They have not touched that game in how long.
Hardware is ok didn't expect something as powerful or more powerful than the PS5.

Honestly for me no reason to buy it now. Only thing that interested me was the Exclusive FromSoft game.

-Too many ports
-Graphics on all the ports still look like butt compared to other systems.
-Too expensive
-Paid upgrades for Switch 1 games
-Paid tutorial game that should have been a pack-in
-Requires expensive MicroSD Express cards
-No Mario paint to show off mouse controls
-No DS/Wii U games Despite the fact that game sharing is using the same streaming tech as Wii U(It was in the Developer FAQ article.)
-I have no friends to use gamechat with.
-Didn't even confirm the price in the video.

They only good thing really was the new Donkey Kong game. I guess Kirby Air Riders is kinda of interesting. And the GameCube is nice,Especially seeing Chibi Robo, but I would have like to see Smash Bros Melee,Star Fox adventures and Star Fox Assault.

I'll just be sticking with my huge backlog of of unplayed games until some more interesting exclusives come out and suffer playing Pokemon ZA on Switch 1.

5/10, Switch 2 itself looks nice, but the first party games were a bit lackluster. Mario Kart World looked great, but that was basically it. Being able to play games I've already played a year or more ago doesn't excite me either. I guess the From Software game could be a great exclusive, though I felt you didn't get shown enough and it'll probably go multiplatform a few months down the line.

Overall an ok presentation.

I was quite disappointed that they did not announce more enhanced Switch 1 titles for Switch 2. Especially more third party titles.

I really hope we will see more Switch 1 titles get the enhanced treatment in the future. Keep them coming!

I need upgrades for DOOM, Mortal Kombat, Wolfenstein, The Witcher and so many more. I really hope that most developers will make it as a free patch for their games.

@ManaOwls I think its being skipped that Nintendo didn't need to further innovate on the model as it had proven wildly successful AND even set a standard for what portable gaming could be

The biggest thing Nintendo needed to do was get their own hardware up to an acceptable bar so it can equally showcase 3rd Party and 1st Party titles on par with the other systems

Double Innovating could have led to another Wii U fiasco, where shoppers couldn't inherently tell that the system was an "improvement" over the previous one. Now its obvious, and the sales will be even stronger

I think the innovation will come from the gameplay in titles down the road, now that extra features are available, and doesn't need to be the system itself

Wasn't perfect but there was a lot of stuff that appealed to me like Gamecube games on NSO, the new Daemon x Machina and lots of nice 3rd party annoucements.

I'm not a huge fan of these prices but they (currently) aren't a dealbreaker either.

A few lame things like the Switch 2 tour being paid, and that wheelchair basketball game looks weird as hell, but the main first party games were a delight and so much third party support for a Nintendo console is unprecedented.

I gave it a 6. Was Mario kart and ports. Got a few points for the From game and GameCube (but, again, ports)

The only bad thing about the announcement are all the Debby Downers on the internet. It was truly amazing, I can't wait.

It convinced me that waiting on a Switch 2 won't be difficult at all. I honestly am pretty shocked how bad that was.

A mixed bag. The first twenty minutes or so did nothing for me outside of the basic console overview. Mario kart, and this isn't a criticism of the series, is basically Mario kart and I was thinking before the Direct that they'd probably just make it open world. The second half was much better with some interesting ports and DK looks great (and about time too). However, as I said on the dedicated article, the storage seems like a big issue. 256GB is not much these days and the required express SD card format only seems to have an extra 256GB widely available currently. Seems like a dumb move and, as others said, reminiscent of Sony's dopey decisions on storage with the PSP and the Vita. They told and showed little about this too - are we restricted to one SD slot and one format only even for Switch 1 games? I still want one, but I will be maintaining my Switch 1 as well to store my games from the last eight years.

Yes the mouse thing is weird, I guess we gonna have joycon mouse mats now 🤣 as I don’t play near a desk, silly idea.
As for the games MK World, no mention of the great online like in MK8, just roam the world and take silly photos with friends.
And DK not sure on that game, definitely not on first showing the standard I was wanting, but it may have some good surprises.

Not bad, but it's hard to rate a Direct when everyone has different tastes. There were definitely some good announcements for me like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza, and I'm happy to see Kirby Air Ride revived and GCN NSO will be a thing, but despite what they say, the system itself is just a boring upgrade that doesn't feel truly new. It didn't help that the streams had a lot of technical difficulties.

Overall, liking the games more than the system itself is entirely what I expected. Some will like that, others like me don't. On top of all this talk about pricing, I feel like Weird Nintendo might be dead after all. But I'll still buy their boring new system for its exciting games, so it's fine.

Not bad, but not that great either. Not a lot of new games shown, and the graphical difference between switch 2 and switch 1 seems pretty small, given that it's been 8 years between these consoles.

And most of the new features like the microphone, camera and the mouse seem rather gimmicky and will probably not be used much in most games.

Disappointed about the expected lack of an OLED version at launch and I really wanted a new proper Fire Emblem, but I cannot be mad at them when for the first time (afaik) in a Direct they highlight the GOAT: Path of Radiance.

Other than that, I'm pretty amazed that I'm actually super excited for a new Mario Kart and Donkey Kong game, not to mention that I am just floored by the fact, that they made an exclusive game with
Hidetaka Miyazaki. I figured Elden Ring was already a big get for them, but that goes above and beyond even my wildest guesses.

The 3rd party support here seems outstanding, even though for me, I already have most of these games on more powerful hardware, it is still amazing to see so much more people getting access to them and in a portable format as well. It is going to be very hard to pass on double-dipping on some evergreen-could-play-forever games like Elden Ring (at a discount though ^^).

But yeah, I was really sold by all that destructibility and just the animation work on Donkey Kong. As someone who does not care much fore Mario in general, this super huge, as I really was just expecting something boring (to me) like Mario Odyssey 2. The first 3D Donkey Kong since my childhood, looking like a Pixar movie no less with all the interactive smashy'ness I always wanted from DK, but only got in my imagination, and all of that in gloriously colorful HDR: YES, please!

I was super happy to see that Switch 2 supports HDR.

Pretty mediocre with a bunch of stuff that everyone already knew about/expected. No new 2d or 3d Mario. No new Zelda. Mario Kart World looks cool, but it's just not enough for a launch title.

DK saved the direct for being a complete bust for me.

I would have given it an 8 but the stream froze/glitched for me (as well as other friends, not sure if it happened to everyone), so that drops it to a 7. There's no killer app I feel I must have that made me want to definitely buy it at launch. But they did a good job going through the features of the new system, demonstrating solid third-party support, and showcasing a few games. I felt more interested in the new Mario Kart & DK than expected, but if/when I do get a system I'll probably check them out from the library first to try them. I was pleasantly surprised by the wheelchair basketball game, though that looks like a smaller/cheaper offering. I'd like to see a big tentpole first party game that actually uses the mouse functionality in a way that feels essential. I'm all for "gimmicks" when they actually meaningfully enhance gameplay experiences.

Oh, side comment unrelated to the system/games, but: that one presenter really couldn't find a suit jacket that fit properly? 🙄

@OldGamer999 Just to be fair, I've been playing with mouse on my couch since forever. I don't know why people assume you need to sit at a desk to use a mouse. Plenty of sensors out there track just fine on fabric and worst case scenario, you get a hard surface mouse pad for a couple of bucks for that specific purpose.

The funny thing is, I mostly never abandoned PC gaming, because they only way I can enjoy a good FPS game is with a mouse. Playing something like Doom on console is a severe comprise, no matter the graphical fidelity. At least I for one find myself unable to use even a fraction of the look speed I would use on PC, thus really breaking the games' cathartic dance of gratuitous violence into a sluggish shooting gallery.

On the flipside, I find analog sticks superior to WASD for movement in most games. The Switch 2 seems really well poised to be the only platform to offer the best of both words potentially: seamless blend of analog movement and precise mouse aiming, depening on the sensors and such of course. Very curious where this will lead.

I loved everything about this. Mario Kart World looks amazing. Looking forward to playing Tears of the Kingdom again... but finally I'll play Elden Ring and have that be my big 'year-long' game I chip away at.

This was such a dissapointment for me.

I would give it an 8.5, or 9. It was really good. There were a few glitches towards the end, and I wish they showed off a few more first party IPs, but I feel like they showed a lot of really great things

The one third party title I was missing was Indiana Jones.

Incredible Direct. Probably the best ever; gave me so much of what I was hoping for and then some.

The disappointments only came afterwards…console price is what I expected but game prices are mental. Code on a cartridge is horrible news for myself as somebody who prefers to buy physically- I just can’t see most third parties opting to have full games on a cartridge when they have that option. Also a bit gutted that Switch 1 game upgrades will be paid, but I was anticipating the possibility of that and it’s better than not having them at all I guess.

Overall very happy with what I saw of the system and games; less so with some of the things I learnt afterwards. Still, I’ll be there at launch if I can manage to get ahold of one.

Fantastic. Give me eight more years of upgraded Switch - the greatest Nintendo generation - with more third party support, better online, GC, open world Kart, backward compatibility, local multiplayer game share, performance upgrade, and lots of surprises in store. The price is a little crazy, but at least it’s finally significantly cheaper to buy digital.

Reading through some of the comments — some people can't be pleased. This is exactly what I wanted from the Switch. Well, minus some sort of dual screen capability.

The price is only a bummer in the sense that the economy is really hurting. They both have a launch price of about a month's worth of groceries at the time of each release. The only major downside is that Nintendo has quite a bit of pull, and I'll bet the rest of the industry follows soon.

I overall was really surprised by the quality of these releases. Mario Kart World looks amazing! Knowing so many switch games are getting special updates for switch 2 is really exciting. We saw Deltarune, Silksong, and more. The New DK Game blew me away. That looks amazing. Mouse mode is going to be really great for some games.

4/10 for me. For £400 I think the console is overpriced. No OLED screen is a particular disappointment. The first party launch games look decent but not spectacular. I’m happy to see a Donkey Kong 64 successor, but the game prices are too high.

Paid upgrades for Switch 1 games is disappointing. I was really hoping to see the Wii U remaster of Windwaker come to the Switch platform… not the GameCube rom with a high res mod.

The pricing hasn’t met my expectations on this occasion, but I’m happy for those who got what they wanted. I’ll probably pick 1 up in a couple of years when the hype has died down.

I don't think they should have focused so much on group chat as a "big 'new' thing" since it has been around, on every console except Nintendo's, for a while now. Other than that is was good, not great. Duskbloods has me interested.

While Nintendo's website had some of these details, the direct made no mention of MSRP for the console, no mention of MSRP for the games that are launching in two months, no mention of MSRP for the pro controller or camera, no mention of when preorders will open, no mention of how much those digital upgrade packs will cost. The presentation itself was quite exciting in my opinion, but there were a lot of frankly very critical details that weren't mentioned at all.

@ManaOwls I've been saying it since the Switch 1, Nintendo is too corporate now. From the machine, to the UI, to the game UIs, too corporate-like.

@Flynnsworth I expected a higher price. Most of the world - especially the West - has faced relatively drastic inflation since the Switch launched eight years ago. They also try to keep relatively parity in console prices across regions, and our president here in America is implementing numerous tariffs which will either drive up the cost of the console or drive down the profit margin (which is usually negative at launch anyway) of the console here which may translate into a higher-than-otherwise price across the pond.

To be clear, I'm not saying that I'm excited about the price. I'm just not surprised given the technical and economic circumstances of the day.

A 4. Pretty underwhelming, with typical remasters and paid upgrades. No achievement/trophy system, having to pay for a digital tech demo, and more phone app nonsense. I have zero interest in using a camera to stream myself. I also didn't see anything about a simple text messaging feature.

Mario Kart World looked fun, and that Bloodborne looking game looked solid, but if that's going to be on PS5 eventually, I would just get that version instead.

The mouse I doubt I would use, unless they came out with some awesome Mario Paint game, but really that should have been a launch title.

So at the moment, looks like I'm not interested in buying it, but time will tell if I change my mind.

yeah one of the things i feel makes a big difference with mario kart is while 8 looked absolutely stunning the sweeping landscapes themselves were backdrops so i imagine they wouldn't need to worry about things like collision detection or whatnot where's with world there looks to be a LOT of interactive elements such as grind rails and other stuff which needs to be accounted for.

While there were parts of the direct i wasn't the biggest fan of the system itself definitely feels like a major jump over the original switch when it comes to capabilities.

Incredible Direct software wise. Plenty of games to look forward to playing on Switch 2. $449 was expected and not that bad.

Mario Kart being $80/90 will be a tough pill to swallow. Really hope that's for only Mario Kart. Which, so far that seems to be the case(DK will be $70).

Honestly, this Direct was worse than last week's Direct. And that was a pretty mediocre Direct. It lowered my hype for the Switch 2.

The only new Nintendo game was Mario Kart, and the new additions don't appeal to me. I'm sick of BotW and TotK; I want to explore a new world not the same world again.

If we have the original game...like KIRBY FORGOTTEN LAND...do we get a free update when that DLC/improvement pack comes in August? Or we have to pay as if new?
I would be down for more Kirby! But I don't need to buy it again at 70 pounds..

I was afraid the comments section here would be like this. I always have this hope somewhere deep in my soul that even die hard fans of a particular company will still demand better. If Nintendo wants to charge what they're charging, fine. But the least they can do is make it worth it. An entire showcase full of ports from 2018 isn't exactly worth $449+ and $80+ games.

I'm surprised that they didn't make us pay a subscription or membership fee to watch the direct. We're losing the plot on the video game industry in my opinion.

Charging for a tech demo.
Charging for resolution upgrades of old games.
Charging for chat.
Charging more for physical games that aren't on the cartridge.

In the post-SteamDeck/post-Switch world, the idea of playing AAA games handheld is no longer a novelty. People look to Nintendo for one reason: innovation. So while the presentation was solid, there was nothing to spark the imagination in a way we couldn't have already envisioned.

@Tdx Exactly. And yet people here are saying it was a 9 out of 10 presentation or better? I've been waiting for this for years and was telling all my friends that I was 100% in for day 1 of Switch 2. But I'm left completely disappointed and annoyed.

The only part that I really didn't care about was the section on the chat and camera options. But I know a lot people care for that, but otherwise I thought it was excellent, and hopefully I'll be able to grab a preorder.

@KevinP Yeah I'm not sure how people can sit there giving it 9's and 10's. It really was overall disappointing. This is why gaming will keep continuing down this unfortunate path.

It was OK, but I enjoyed last week's more (Metroid Prime 4 and Marvel Cosmic Invasion). I'm happy with the hardware, but the price of games is steep. I feel like people will be much more selective with purchases than they used to be.

Mario Kart World looks impressive, and it was probably a good idea to go with something a bit more original like Donkey Kong Bananza (doesn't look too much like Donkey Kong though, thematically!) The Zelda upgrades are welcome for those who want them.

Online subscribers will welcome the GameCube games, but I'd rather the best ones were properly remastered in widescreen and available to buy for Switch 2.

I think I was most excited by Arcade Archives 2: Ridge Racer! (Although that era of 3D coin-ops will really suffer without Sega on board.)

I guess we'll just have to wait until a later date for Mario, Animal Crossing and a new Zelda. A decent presentation, but I can't help but feel the old Nintendo charm isn't quite what it was.

@Mana_Knight My understanding is that the update is not free, but does not cost full price either. I don't think they have released the prices for the upgrades. This is a nice alternative, because I know when they released a lot of Wii U games on Switch, I didn't want to buy them again at full price. They got me to bite on MK8 which I was able to get on sale, though then of course bought the DLC and SM3D World where I wanted the Bowser's Fury.

@ManaOwls This is exactly how I feel with the PS5, it's the 5th upgrade of the PS1. I guess Sony will always technically have 1 system. Microsoft is the same way. 1 system with multiple upgrades. I'm just happy that Nintendo innovates (enough for everyone to copy) instead of just worrying about a graphics upgrade, which is the least important factor in a video game.

I'm disappointed we didn't get a new 3D Mario or a look at a new Splatoon game. Splatoon 4 with better netcode and 120Hz support would be amazing. For everyone complaining about the C button, the point is to use it mainly in online play games for which you already need Nintendo Switch Online. nothing about the new DK game screamed that it can only run on Switch 2… pretty sure it could also be played on Switch 1…

I bought Switch day 1 but Switch 2 just is like a mix bag for me.
A lot of good additions like 120 FPS display, HDR, GameCube games… but idk something about this system just seems off.

Also on a side note am i the only one who thinks the system is too big? This is no longer a daily causal portable console… after you put a case on this thing it’s gonna take so much space.. Doesn’t seem practical to carry around on most days just leave it at home and only take it out on longer travels…

I've had very lukewarm experiences at best from trying to find other gamers through modern socials, and I'm getting a little fed up with Nintendo just expecting their audience to magically have tight-knit friend groups ready to go. Gamechat is a nice, very needed feature for Nintendo consoles as a baseline, but once again they're mostly features that are geared toward people who already have friend groups ready to go.

Was a bummer for me. No titles in really excited for and the GameCube being a Switch 2 only thing was a bit of a buzz kill. Don't love that on top of buying the system you need this 'enhancement dlc' for some titles. Then what's the point of the new system if I'm paying above the cost of the new system to use the 'improved hardware'? Just kind of a goofy piece of hardware. I've been with Nintendo in ever generation but I don't think I'll consider the Switch 2 unless my 2018 Switch either does or there's a big holiday price drop in a few years.

Great if you only play on Nintendo hardware. Not a whole lot to be excited about for those of us that have already played most of what was shown.

I feel like half of us watched a different direct. No Mario. No Metroid. Only 1 interesting Nintendo game in DK, tons of third party junk, no price, no pre order, games with no dates, games w no footage, and so on. The future sucks. Rehash after rehash after rehash and everyone keeps eating it up. How many of these games have ALREADY BEEN ON OTHER PLATFORMS?!? 1/10.
Wii U 2.0....

I was hoping for Kingdom Hearts and Monster Hunter, and instead I got FF7R and Street Fighter. Still good games, but not exactly what I was hoping for.

I was hoping for Switch 2 upgrades of Switch 1 games. But in reality, the only upgrade pack promising better textures is Metroid Prime 4. Everything else is just resolution and frame rate, which is a little disappointing, especially since none of them are free. At the very least I'm relieved that BOTW/TOTK is bundled with NSO+.

I was hoping for a new 3D Mario and Monolith Soft, but instead we got Mario Kart and Donkey Kong. That's great for those fans, but not exactly what I was hoping for.

I was hoping for a new online feature that would bring Nintendo gamers together, and instead we got Gamechat. It's a nice feature that enhances online gaming, but it only improves the experience for friends already made.

I was hoping for Switch 2's UX to innovate and bring a fresh appearance to herald in a fresh console generation, but instead we just got Switch 1's UI with an Apple Intelligence-esque swirly color gradient. Very disappointing.

All in all, I'm still relatively excited for Switch 2 after taking some time to process everything further, but I'm not as excited to be a Day 1 consumer as I was before knowing the launch lineup, the pricing, and the cookie cutter UX. In fact, we still don't know the cost of upgrade packs sold separately, which is a bad sign.

Nintendo really needs to rethink how they do these. In all the time they took to get to this point (which let's face it, this tech should've been released 2 years ago as a Pro) they still couldn't go into the details that matter? Less of those idiots talking on the game chat demo, and maybe tell us the prices and own it? Rather than trying to hide those details in press releases after the event that already had 1.5million or more viewers watching. They're just so arrogant at this point that they do the dumbest crap and the same old people will praise them and pretend that they're jazzed about replaying 3 dozen games they already beat last decade.

My overall thought was "cool, but i dont need it right away."

Then looking at the game prices definitely made me a bit more concerned. Also, i feel like a goof paying for a 1.5TB sd card only to learn that it wont be compatible with the new system.

Truthfully, I will eventually get one, but with my current backlog of games, I need to wait. When they eventually release Prime 4, I think I might take a look again.

9/10. I enjoyed the show. There were some great AAA additions and the performance looks to be as good as I was hoping for. The UK price of the console is good, and while the game prices aren't amazing £58.99 - £74.99 isn't as awful as the $80-£90 price points. The mouse feature has me excited too.

With these prices, I think the time has come for me to finally make the "switch"...to Steam Deck.

I'd give it a 6. As a whole it was entertaining. But I'm not excited for much, def not excited enough to get day 1.

I'm most excited for Metroid with 120FPS 4K and mouse controls!

DK will probably be great, but I was disappointed it wasn't the new 3D Mario game.

The paid manual game is just insane.

Silksong is exciting but I'm sure it would be on other consoles too.

Overall... A little bit meh.

I'm glad we're back at the part of the Nintendo handheld cycle where everyone hates everything about it. The world just wouldn't feel right, otherwise.

When people warm up to the console and insist they always loved it, that will be a time. Just like GBA, DS, 3DS and even OG Switch.

I am very happy over the announcements. I have been writing about a 'Hyrule Warriors 3' game being a possibility for months now because one of the producers said they believed there would be a third one because of how successful the first two were and I am looking forward to playing it 'cause I loved 'Age of Calamity.' I prefer the fast paced action style of fighting in the 'Hyrule Warriors' games than the regular 'Legend of Zelda' games and it is so much easier to beat monsters like Lynels, Moldugas and Hinoxes and I am going to enjoy killing Gloom Hands and Gleeoks in it. 😀

I enjoyed it! I don't own any of these other consoles or a gaming PC, got some money coming my way so I think it's safe to say I will be picking one up...

A few things:

1. The orange man is at fault! Blah! Blah! Blah!

2. Did people forget the newest Zelda game cost seventy dollars? Nobody had any issues with that?

3. These prices are ridiculous for new Switch 2 games.

4. If you really want to pre-order the Switch 2, then I recommend getting the bundle.

I really enjoyed it and seeing so much support so early on is a good sign that 3rd party's were sold on the original switch and don't want to pass up an opportunity to get something on it's successor. The only real issue and it's a big one is the pricing of the games. The console price is exactly what I figured it would be.

@WiltonRoots I do own an Xbox, but I have been holding off on some games I'd usually buy there (like Cyberpunk 2077 and Elden Ring) because I figured Switch 2 would get a port. Frankly, that's good for me.

@CashMoneyMadness Yeah. We get ripped off here. I just read it is going to cost us $699 to get a Switch 2 here while the American price is only $449.99. I don't know how they can justify making us pay an extra $250. It is around double the price we paid to get a Nintendo Switch but we got it on special nearly a year after it came out.

@IronMan30 It's more the games than the console itself. Switch has a lot of great games but the console is so bare bones. No themes, achievements, party system/voice chat, no text messaging system, and the friends system being pretty much useless. Add joycon drift, a poorly designed pro controller, and weak hardware that can barely run third party games. I'm not going to sit here and act like the switch was an amazing console, but I will say it was a console with a lot of great games.

I feel like it will be pretty much the same with the switch 2. An underwhelming console with a lot of great (but expensive) games.

@nhSnork that's funny cause as far as I remember that was a trade off for choosing to play on a switch. On the go play at the expense of nearly everything else taking a hit. Graphics, loading times, fps, etc. So no, it doesn't matter if you played 20 hrs or 5 minutes (which is kinda hard to believe when the busy man Sakurai himself had time to play hundreds of games on his ps5 lol) of a game on ps or an xbox or pc. It is still a better experience on those platforms than on a switch. And frankly in the year 2025, it also loses its on the go angle now that pc handhelds exists. How anybody with one, can look at the ports they showed today and be excited, when they can literally already play them on a handheld rn and cheaper (and with similar capabilities of a pc like mods and free online) is beyond me. The only thing that makes remotely any sense is if you only own a Nintendo then I could see how all those ports are any good

We're getting ripped off. No game for a system that looks to finally be able to keep up with the last console generation's graphical abilities should be 80 dollars, and that's just for a Mario Kart World box that has a cart inside with no game on it. It unlocks a download. I've picked up every Nintendo system since the NES was new, but this might be 'buy in a couple years' kind of console. Unless there's a new Zelda to get excited about, I'm not all in

4/10. Some of the announcements got me really excited, actually - Mario Kart and Donkey Kong look great, the launch lineup looks packed, Silksong is confirmed for this year! GameCube is cool too, glad to see Colosseum and XD getting some love. And the specs seem pretty neat too. Honestly, I might get the console pretty early.

But it's impossible to ignore how staggering it is that some games will cost $80 on this thing. I get inflation and all that, but I hate the idea that pricing us out of physical is their way to incentivize digital. It's like the carrot of Gold Points wasn't working, so now they need the stick of a 33% price hike to get us to give them our money directly. And charging for select performance enhancements feels dirty too. I'm glad some will be free (Shadow Labyrinth is confirmed for that too, by the way), but I feel they should all be. And having to get a better microSD card is kinda lame too, even with more onboard storage. And while lots of the chat features seem neat, at the end of the day I'll probably mostly use voice chat, which was included on the DS!

Mixed feelings overall. Kinda hoping the thing flops a bit to put them in their place. I'll be playing ZA and Metroid Prime 4 on my Switch first, I think.

Oof... I left the Direct feeling this was a solid 7; I was somewhat let down, but it had its highlights in the new software shown off. The longer I sit on it, this has dropped to a rough 5/10 for me.

I'm particularly shocked that they're going out of their way to sell a modestly priced model for their Japanese consumers at the equivalent of ~330$USD tax incl., but ~510$USD in Europe tax incl., and ~550$USD in Canada post-tax.
It seems that Japanese headquarters are unaware that the rest of the world is also struggling with HCOL and low wages, just like the Japanese.

That is a $200 difference, and I feel like the Euro and Canadian dollar are doing just as poorly against the US dollar as the Yen, and salaries, cost of living, etc. are just as dire a situation as in Japan.

And to see them milk Switch releases with minor upgrades as a replacement for the Wii U re-releases of the Switch era is icky. I'm so sick of BoTW and ToTK, both of which are games I like A LOT. But seeing them featured in this Direct was an immediate killjoy to me. This Nintendo Switch 2 Edition garbage is horrific and the worst outcome to me. I was hoping they'd have spent this time acquiring game studios so they could actually produce new first-party games at a regular pace.

And games now being 80$USD when they JUST did an increase with ToTK to 70$... Mario Kart World will probably sell for over $100 Canadian...

And all this with only 2 first-party games of substance revealed, and nothing else teased except Kirby Air Riders...

I think Nintendo is showing their ego and greed with this announcement, and I hate to say it, but I hope they suffer pretty bad in low physical and software sales... It seems this is just how it has to be with Nintendo. A generation of success to prove their talent, and a generation of failure to shame them to realistic standards.

Personally, nearly 800$CAD for a device that has one killer game and is otherwise in no way distinct from my current Switch is not AT ALL a Day 1 buy. And I don't even want to drop that amount of money knowing I'll have to drop another $100/game...

I'm more and more disappointed the more I think about it tbh.

a ~$10 increase for a massive-scale game after years of games being set at that price, and that came with a promise that pricing would be dynamic based on the scale of the game... And even then it still got some pushback.
I thought $70 ($90 here in Canada) would be the standard for big Zelda or Mario games, with party games and smaller IP sticking to $60/$80CAD.
Now they're jumping AGAIN only 2 years later to over $100CAD for tentpole titles ? It's insane.

8/10 - Hardware is amazing, lots of third-party games, Mario Kart World looks like it will be the best to date, DK looks great. Kirby Air Riders is a pleasant surprise too.
Can't get higher than an 8 due to widespread technical issues during the stream, not mentioning pricing of the hardware and games during the presentation, and bad decisions like charging for the Switch 2 tech demo. Also, no 3D Mario despite the fact that it surely has to be coming out November 2026 or sooner.

The direct itself was amazing. Sure, one more big game would’ve been nice, but Donkey Kong alone looks phenomenal.

In terms of the price… yeah. I will personally still be purchasing a Switch 2, but my hype has been dampened. I’m Canadian, so I’m not exactly chomping at the bit for $100 Nintendo games

Amazing Direct, the only issue is the $80 pricing of certain Switch 2 games which is not really an issue with the Direct itself.

@ManaOwls You have no idea how much I agree with what you're saying. Being a huge Nintendo fan for over 40 years, I've felt completely disconnected from the entire Switch generation. And I've always been criticized a lot when I say things like I enjoyed and liked the Wii U much more than the Switch. It's been obvious to me how much Nintendo has changed direction in recent years. So I'm glad to finally see someone who shares my point of view, maybe then I won't feel so bad about myself.

Nintendo's games look spectacular.
The direct spent way too much time on late 3rd party ports. I came away disappointed with how little we saw of Nintendo's first year first party lineup. But hey, that half hour let me get ready to go to the office.
The real bad news came after the direct (game prices, console price, etc.). Well, the paid tech demo was during the direct, I guess. All that has left me with mixed feelings...
But hey, Gamecube!

Like my cousin said, I like a Nintendo that's losing.

It was really slow and boring and they didn't have all that much to show.

Mario Kart World is still their big game, but between the insane price, the butt-ugly art direction, and the features no-one asked for (open world???), I can't bring myself to care. And I've been obsessed with Mario Kart for decades.

I'm not a fan of Souls games, Multiplayer games, or Sports games. So that's most of the other stuff they showed.

Gamecube games are neat, but I already have a full collection at this point. What I really wanted was remasters or remakes of these games on a console I already own. Give us WWHD, TPHD, and Metroid Prime Trilogy Remastered already.

Kirby Air Riders could be exciting, but we saw nothing to actually be excited about. And, I'll be frank, the original game isn't actually very fun as a racer? I'm more interested in the potential here than anything...

And I do not care at all for Donkey Kong or his games. It's frankly depressing they spent so much time on a game for this character.

Also, the weird "let's see what we can get away with selling to customers" stuff spread throughout was really really gross. Why is the manual being sold to us as a "game"? Why is a ***** tech demo being sold as a game? (I've made game jam games more polished than this trash, genuinely). It was honestly embarrassing.

I could not be more frustrated and annoyed honestly. I did not think it could be this bad, but here we are. I just hope they fail and they fail hard. My biggest fear is that this garbage will sell anyway, like what happened with PS5.

Same, sadly. I have not played local co-op in years. Hoping Switch 2 will make it easier to play with a few people on here! I have done it a few times, but the lack of chat or messaging makes it quite hard on some games.

@Judal27 well, you are talking to someone who owns a Steam Deck on top of a Switch and still prioritizes the latter to the point of double-dipping on subsequent ports of already procured or even started PC games. Handheld PCs like Deck are an appreciable alternative for what isn't on the Nintendo hybrids but come with a natural bunch of fine print otherwise (from the deficient battery management and prohibitive sleep mode of Windows machines to the volatile compatibility hijinks of an effective Linux device like aforesaid Deck), dealing with a finicky broad range of optimizations, platform-typical frixel bloat and proportional filesizes made even more redundant on a 800p screen, all kinds of DIY curveballs like a game not (or suddenly no longer) even launching until YOU roll up your sleeves and tinker your way through with the risk of never succeeding or screwing things up even more... I could go on and on, with tales like allegedly "verified" stuff stubbornly crashing past the intro without some DLL from Mars or game launcher tantrums locking you out of a playthrough even after redownloading and reinstalling anywhere between 80 and 150 Gb of the whole thing. I cherish what my Deck gives me, but if a game hits Switch, chances are I'll be playing it on Switch. Especially since everything I've played thereon since the spring of 2017 has consistently defied the fanbloid allegations of graphics/performance "hits" in my experience, with titles like Hogwarts Legacy, Echoes of Wisdom and Atelier Yumia being but a few most recent examples in that long lineup. And again, it's hard to exceed the loading time wait on a console you barely have time to power on; I can't speak for Sakurai but the study/work schedules and downtown downtimes of countless millennial/zoomer gamers like myself make it rather unsurprising that Switch's own revelation (arguably one of the most exciting and illustrative console trailers in history) was filled with young adults. Heck, even my somewhat more recurrent PS4 opportunities of the last 2.5 years have done little to rearrange my preferences, especially since I still can't afford to take them for granted.

@pichuscute0 YMMV, an open world racer (a comparatively scarser game recipe these days overall) has been pretty much the only thing that I've previously admitted could motivate me to break the Mario Kart binge queue where MK8DX never did (I still seem to be one of the five Switch owners who don't have the latter purchased after all these years😆). On the other hand, you wouldn't catch me asking for the unironic drivel like "4K60fps", and I don't see myself using the touted GameChat either (no camera pun intended), yet here we are. ¯(ツ)/¯

@Mommar it's "N64 trees" all over again - whenever people spout past period "comparisons" like these, you may find yourself compelled to suspect they just homed in on their own birthyear for a number close at hand.😏 And while Wii U's TV/apartment-chained format left me out of the market for it as per the woeful usual, it always looked damn neat as something barely anyone seemed to recognize it being (a home console take on NDS/3DS dual screen gaming). I rank Switch leagues higher, but Wii U unarguably deserved better - and, for all of its misfortunes, was still the cradle of many amazing games.

I’d give this direct a solid 8/10. There were definitely some things I did NOT vibe with (cough cough paid tour cough cough $80 games), but some of the new features and a lot of the games genuinely had me excited!

I’m likely gonna wait a bit to get it (though if it’s in stock and I have enough for it, I’ll probably get it day 2 or 3 ), but the lineup of games looks really fun! I’ll probably gonna get only one of them at launch though.

@ManaOwls Same here. I would just add that it's embarrassing when they have to clarify that every update is a paid upgrade. The whole Direct and the Switch 2 itself are a list of paid upgrades. Paying for the Welcome Tour is ridiculous. I also miss the old Nintendo, frankly. Not just because of these paid upgrades, but because of the games themselves.

Well, pay absolutely for everything Directly kind of Direct. And pay a lot, especially for digital games or "physicals" (game-key cards) that I'm suspecting will be around 60%-70% overall. Beside that I like the hardware, except for the battery that right after "physicals" is a reason for me to not get it. Well, I'm happy tho for all the people who will buy it and will have fun with it. You'll finally get some strong machine that will be able to keep up with new releases.
