In what can only be described as a monumental return to form for both hedgehogs, Sonic X Shadow Generations combines two excellent campaigns to create what is likely the very best 3D Sonic game so far. The remastered Generations content remains a delight, taking you through some of the series' most iconic stages, but Shadow's new chapter represents the franchise's 3D gameplay at its very best. It introduces a bunch of awesome new abilities while showcasing some of the most creative stages we've ever seen, and we're keen to keep replaying to nail those crucial S-ranks. Alas, there's still no Chao Garden, but we'll keep hoping and praying for its inclusion in the future. The future of 3D Sonic looks bright.

Sonic X Shadow Generations is an excellent remaster of Sonic Generations, a solid Platformer/3D Platformer, paired with an entirely new Platformer/3D Platformer, Shadow Generations, which despite being short may possibly be the best 3D Sonic game ever made. The Nintendo Switch version suffers a bit from lower framerates than the version of the game on other modern platforms, but otherwise this is an outstanding release that should be considered a must-have for any Sonic fan.

Sonic Generations comes back in 2024 with an all new Shadow Generations. Sonic generations has a glaring issue when it comes to jank and frustration but still was a joy to play and see how they made 3D levels 2D and 2D levels 3D. Shadow Generations stole the show for me though. It plays like butter and feels really good to control. It cuts down on the sonic jank and focuses on the best parts of sonic gameplay. I have spent a lot of time just running around the hub world just cause it's so fun! It's 2 fun games for a price less than most games by big publishers on the switch.
