Three Sega Genesis / Mega Drive Games Have Been Added To Switch Online's Expansion Pack

I died so many times in that game but thought the concept of switching from regular cyborg to super combat mech was so cool (still wishing I could have played as a woman though. Lewis in Robocop was so cool. I always liked her more than Murphy. ). Except when getting shot with the goop and being frozen. I still have my original but at least I won’t have to dig it out. Just ordered a genesis controller as well. One of the few games that I prefer the console to arcade version. The final boss should have turned my hair white.

I'm old so I still find it hilarious one of the most easiest ways to play all these classic Sega games is on Nintendo.

Sure hope SEGA are open to adding their GBA and Gamecube games, bar the co-developed F Zero GX.

Won't complain about Streets of Rage.

Nice and on another note nintendo is about to announce the new preorder date for switch 2 its buzzing all over social media this morning.

I’m surprised it took them this long to release SOR 1. Might have to try these before my subscription runs out in a couple days.

Kinda wish Sega would add Sega CD games for Switch 2 NSO. That would had encourage me to stick with NSO for much longer.

Not really my kind of games, but of couse I'll give them a chance once I either finish Jump Super Stars or get tired of it. Haven't touched my Switch since I got it.

Streets of rage! Freakin sweet! Anyone else feel like it's still the best one? SOR 2 gets all the praise but honestly the first has a way better soundtrack and i like the special attack where the cop car pulls up and bombs the place. Awesome game! Proves the genesis still could pull off some impressive music despite it's lower sound quality compared to Snes.

@RiasGremory it blows my mind that people in North America and Europe have to jump through hoops to do the preorder. When switch/xbox series/ps5 were released I never was able to get one day one so I ignored the switch 2 preorders. Just walked into eb games yesterday and was able to preorder with no hassle. I wish you the best with it.

Y'know, while prices are the current main focus of Nintendo, it is funny to contrast that with how a combination of retro games that if you had bought when they were new would've been a truly absurd amount of money and this one system alone would've cost you thousands of dollars for these games, I am currently paying around 12 bucks a year for. Which is 488 bucks less than it will cost you to buy and be able to play Mario Kart World.

The massive difference in price is fascinating at that point. Maybe I'll just give up on new games and systems at that point. :V

Especially since you can't argue about game ownership with this one, since you can still buy a lot of these Genesis games AFAIK.

I'm glad the trailer let the Yuzo Koshiro beat drop before moving on. It was a gripping and suspenseful trailer for that reason alone.

@Dee123 when the preorders went up after the direct I thought "oh well, I'll miss out again and have to wait" I feel like we aren't missing out for once.

I was a bit miffed this was it for april, and we didn't get any GBA and N64 games.. But seeing how happy this makes everyone really turned that around!

Streets of rage is legendary and that Cyborg thing still looks amazing! Never played Sega consoles so this'll be fun!

Great point about vallue and time. You'd wait and pray till christmas or your birthday to play a lot of the NSO games as a kid, looking at them like that really ups the appreciation!

Ok, this made my night… honestly it’s been (or it feels like it’s been) FOREVER since we got a Genesis/Mega Drive NSO update!
This is a delectable trio of bangers right here! I really enjoy the selection on there because it’s not just the same run of the mill Sega rehashes. Absolutely playing SOR ASAP. I’m so close to pulling the trigger on an NSO Genesis controller.

Jokes apart, nice to finally have Streets of Rage for the NSO. Not a Fan of eSWAT. Super Thunder Blade is just horrible.

I would love Dreamcast games for switch 2 now we have GameCube, or even Saturn! I guess I always have my steam deck for that but I would love a better way than that

Streets of Rage is the game I've always said I'd take with me to a desert island if I could only play one game for the rest of time, so I guess that's me sorted for the next eternity, then.

@ChromaticDracula it's nice controller for sure, charging it now (it does lose it's charge quite fat if nintendo keeps dropping mega drive once a moon it is always empty when a new game comes around...

All three games are already available on Sega Genesis Classics. The conplilation has been delisted digitally but you can still buy physical copies.

I prefer when they release games that aren't already on multiple retro compilations or mini consoles, but the silver lining is Nintendo didn't forget about the Mega Drive NSO app.

Genesis does what Nintendon't. Put their games on their competitors' consoles.

Happy to learn that Super Thunder Blade is an awful as I remember! SOR1 is an all timer though so very happy to see it finally added.

Also please Capcom give us all 3 Viewteful Joe games and the Disney Magical Quest trilogy.

@Protion9 The Thunder Blade that was on 3DS was indeed a fantastic version though, I wish Sega didn't give up on their Sega Ages lineup for Switch and release more hits like Thunder Blade, After Burner, Super Hang-On, Power Drift, Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder, Scud Race, Daytona USA, Golden Axe: The Duel, Virtua Fighter 2, and Fighting Vipers.

Streets of rage has one of the best title screen theme. It’s my best SOR. my mega drive came with bare knuckles (sor) and out run.

@Serpenterror was it based in the arcade version? I have only played the MD version that I got together with Alien Storm and Super Monaco pack.

I also miss the Sega Ages. My first Switch games were Virtua Racing and well, Neo Turf Masters.

ESwat looks like a better RoboCop game than a RoboCop game.

Now they need to add SOR3, and while they're at it, add Sonic 1 and Sonic 3&K.

How in the world did it take them this long to add Streets of Rage 1 to the library?
Super Thunder Blade was the only other game you could get at launch besides Altered Beast I thought. And I hear even then it wasn't a very good port?

I used to have a sega genesis plug and play when I was little and streets of rage was the game I spent the most time in.

Damn. Forgot how good the music was on SOR 1. And I guess my speakers weren’t aa good laat time I played. But now it is amazing (als played the 3ds 3d version yesterday but those speakers don’t do it justice)

Super Thunder Blade was bad when I was a kid and it’s still bad now. None of the Genesis Super Scaler conversions were very good. Impressive in trailers on tv when we were kids but horrible to play.

ESWAT is a classic. And Streets of Rage is still one of the best beat ‘em ups ever made. Certainly the best soundtrack of any beat ‘em up.

@romanista Similar with me though it was Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii on Series X and The Ocean Hunter. (Technically not my first Yakuza I bought but the first I played; I own all except IW, The Man Who Erased His Name, and Isshin) I got there, but now I’m caught up in the open world collect-a-thon trap, Lol.
