It is tough, I don't think most of Nintendo games are even worth $59.99 let alone $69.99 or Lord help us $79.99. I play most Nintendo games and I have played games that are $19.99 that are equal in quality. But you cannot find Nintendo games at this price point. So its tough, I am a big fan of their games, so I probably will get one, but at launch, I don't know. I would for sure if that Donkey Kong game was a launch title. It not going out day one is nutz.
@FishyS
Imagine buying a Nintendo product, but instead of a price tag, it has the ?-block from Super Mario on it. Depending on how many people buy the game within a certain period of time, you would pay more or less money.

Like what games @19.99 care to elaborate on that? Your not the Developer to know what it would cost to develop games. If you don't like the game then don't buy it. It pretty easy to do here. They also have to make a living - I doubt you want to be paid 19.99 or less for your work.

That's what you get for buying Physical used full cart games the market forces determines it's used prices. That already happens.
@FishyS
Oh my gosh could you imagine the collective panic attack of the gaming community if that were to happen lol?
Wtf! Why is this game $62.53?!! It should be $54.79! No it shouldn't, it should be $60.42! You're wrong. No you're wrong! Both of you idiots are wrong- it should be $74.51, clearly.
Ironically I feel like that would be paradise for a good many gamers. Arguing over prices not being what they feel they should be seems like a national past time for some of these people. An environment like that would probably be their equivalent of 40 virgins 😀

@Jester676
No, my comment was not meant to be taken seriously. I can not go to the store, get a Nintendo product without paying and not even knowing how much I will have to pay after a certain date has passed.
@Jester676 Nothing to elaborate on. Its my opinion. Its subjective. I have played games like Blood West that give a what I consider a better experience then most of the games I have had to spend $60+. Tainted Grail I will also add as an example.
Am I bias sure. I do agree there is a Nintendo tax and from Reggie's interview that was blasted around the internet the other day. I hold to that. Nintendo charges to much for their games imho.
Granted I am part of the problem, I will complain about the prices but I am still a Nintendo Simp, and I will probably buy those over priced games.
What a bummer. And here I thought Kirby & The Forgotten Land + DLC(NS2 Edition) was going to be available at launch. I have it on S1, but i still haven't giving it a proper whirl yet. The 60fps bump, 1440p & DLC is going to make a massive difference for NS2, but it looks like we'll have to hold out until Aug 28.
I don't know, the launch isn't looking exactly mighty exciting so far, as is, based on my tastes, with Mario Kart World, Welcome Tour, LOZ: BOTW(NS2 Edition), Ridge Racer 'Arcade Archives 2' & NSO GameCube. Probably going to hold off until DK Bananza drops in July to make my first time with S2 feel more substantial. But then, having to wait just under 2 months might drive me up the wall. Time is of the essence, my patience is dwindling away. Launch day here I come. LOL
Kirby Air Riders(Instead of MK World. Although this would of been a massive gamble in terms of sales. MK is a mega-cash cow and a total safe bet Vs a sequel to a one off experimental Kirby game that launched in the early 2000's.), Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Donkey Kong Bananza & Welcome Tour(Being a free pack-in), while still including the NS2 Editions for LOZ: BOTW & TOTK, along with Street Fighter 6 (I'll be passing as I loath it's hip hop jazz soundtrack), plus Super Mario Party Jamboree(NS2 Edition), the same exact NSO GameCube service + NSO GCN Controller, with maye 3 Arcade Archives 2 games instead of just one, being Ridge Racer, all being available at launch could of been stellar, but alas.
But ya, there isn't anything after the launch that's been officially confirmed so far for 2025 that has my attention other than below >
Donkey Kong Bananza
Kirby And the forgotten Land + DLC (NS2 Edition)
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
Kirby Air Riders
Salamander III - (Gradius Origins) - Which nobody on here is even talking about.
Mario Kart World
This is the first time I've felt this way about a Mario Kart entry since the N64
Welcome Tour
Ya ya, I know. But I'm sorry, the guy from MinMax is over the moon for this game. He won't shut up about it lol. And he's not exactly a Nintendo-oriented gamer. It's $10. I'm goin in
Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma
Finally a modern Rune Factory that looks good and runs well on a hybrid console
Street Fighter 6
Been a fan since Street Fighter II Turbo on SNES. Put in countless hours at 3DS launch with Street Fighter 4 3D, and Ultra Street Fighter II on Switch.
Cyberpunk 2077
Played a bit on PC but I need hybrid freedom. Gyro and mouse aiming > I'm all in
Hogwarts Legacy
I love this game. No way I can pass up a Switch 2 version. And visually it looks very impressive.
Yakuza 0
Director's Cut with new story cutscenes and English dub, and I hear it's the one to start with? Ok I'm sold.
Fast Fusion
It's Fast Racing. It's tradition at this point.
Zelda Tears of the Kingdom NSW2 Edition
Never finished this game. Now I will.
GameCube Games
Zelda Windwaker in HD and hybrid? F-Zero GX in HD with online? Soul Caliber 2? Man stop. You had me when the logo dropped.
POST-LAUNCH
Metroid Prime 4
The game I've looked forward to for nearly 20 years. 4k 60fps. 1080p 120fps. Gyro. Mouse. Just mainline it into my arm already, please!
Daemon x Machina: Titanic Scion
Game of the show for me. At least in terms of new announcements.
Donkey Kong Bonanza
It looks good, what can I say.
Elden Ring
Only Souls game I've ever gotten into. Yes please.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade
Been holding off for when Switch 2 releases. And now with the 2nd game out it'll follow shortly after, and the 3rd game shouldn't be too far off. I didn't wanna wait 5 years between playing each entry. And now they're also hybrid
The Duskbloods
My brother is a FromSoftware diehard and always tried to get me into Souls. Playing online with him sounds like a ton of fun
I'm intrigued by Salamander 3, but honestly I'm still waiting for Blazing Lasers from TG16. I'm glad it's on Wii U but I'd really like that one on Switch 1/2

@JaxonH
I haven't been this interested in a Mario Kart sequel since Super Circuit for the GBA. Although my experience with that one wore thin after the initial honey moon faze, but it was the closest thing in terms of Art/visual style & gameplay to the revolutionary and magnificent OG' SNES original. Looking back, I wish I would of gotten a GameCube GBA Player for some 2-4 player Super Circuit multiplayer action, and also experiencing LOZ: Minish Cap, Metroid Fusion & Zero Mission. But just under 2 years later, everybody who owned the GCN was already Double Dashing!! lol
As for MK world, I'm just itching to see some 200cc gameplay, and once they confirm that the rear mirror can be displayed on-screen at all times. And oOoOoOo, the DuskBloods. I didn't bother throwing it on the list since it's been confirmed for 2026, but I am looking forward to it, especially after spending some time with Blood Bourne on PS4 Pro a few years or so ago. The 30fps cap hurt the experience though, and i think my patience eventually dissolved like it did with nearly everything Demon Souls-like game I've gotten my hands on.
And hopefully the gorgeous DK Bananza lives up to the hype. Purely based on visuals, it doesn't look that far off from Astro Bot(PS5) either. But again, Nintendo are masters when it comes to style, art direction, and making great use/squeezing every last drop of power based on what they've been given.
As for Blazing Lazers, our only chance for that is either NSO TGFX or just a TGFX Collection release. Or you could just score a TGFX mini off eBay and pay like 3x the cost. The first and last time I played the TurboGrafx was in 89/90' when they were showcasing the TGFX with multiple kiosks at my local mall. I caught a glimpse of Keith Courage(in full-on Samurai mode) on a small CRT behind a glass showcase, and then went hands on with Bonk's Adventure. Having been so accustomed to NES at the time, the TGFX's wider colour palette and larger, more detailed sprites had me a little gob-smacked. Not even remotely close to when SNES launched in 91 mind you, but a clear step up from 8-bit. Oddly enough, I'm looking forward to Welcome Tour the most. Since it will be using dual/Stand alone Gyro mouse controls in innovative, fun and whacky ways. Basically a $10 appetizer to a future Switch 2 WarioWare or Mario Paint Sequel.
2025/2026 future releases >
Donkey Kong Bananza
Kirby & the Forgotten Land + DLC (NS2 Edition)
Salamander III - (Gradius ReBirth)
NInja Gaiden: Rage Bound
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
Kirby Air Riders
Marvel Cosmic Invasion - (I keep forgetting about this one. Created by the TMNT: Shredder Revenge developers)
I won't have the money to place a pre-order this month as I've got a few other, more important things I need to prioritise, but I'm strongly considering pre-ordering on payday next month if I'm still able to. I know of a few places that still have Switch 2 stock available so I'm hoping they don't sell out by next month.
I've already bought the Switch2-MarioKart-Bundle, so I can pick it up at my convenience, without standing in lines.
Mario Kart is a game I don't mind "owning" only digital, but I definitely try to buy physical (if possible) just as I do with all my games.
For sure, I've skipped the OLED, but this one is going to get into my hands either way.
The only thing that I'm going to do is probably wait a little for things to settle and stabilize offer-wise. I've learned my lesson jumping into hardware prematurely.
@rallydefault Yeah, dev time is mostly just guesswork, but I think it's a fair bet that Metroid Prime Remastered took at least as many resources as DKC Returns HD and Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, and yet it's cheaper. I do agree Donkey Kong has a good amount of content, but a better example would be stuff like Kirby Star Allies and the Mario sports games costing the same amount as Mario Odyssey and the Fire Emblem and Xenoblade games. Obviously everyone will get a different amount of value out of a game (some people might list ARMS as an example of a game lacking in content, but I've played it for 80 hours and not got 100%), but it's clear that the amount of content in a $60 Nintendo game can differ wildly.
So I guess my point is, like skywake said, the answer to 'Why is the Metroid Prime remaster cheaper than the Donkey Kong/Luigi one?' is 'Because more people will buy Donkey Kong/Luigi' - or in other words, to maximise profits. Which means if you ask 'Why is Mario Kart World $80?', the obvious answer to a lot of people will be 'Because Nintendo knows people will buy it anyway' - or in other words, to maximise profits. Nintendo might want us to believe it's because of the amount of content in it or how expensive it was to make, but the evidence from their own pricing history doesn't support that.
And to be clear, I'm not necessarily saying Mario Kart World isn't worth the asking price. We can't know if it is until we've played it, and I could easily see myself getting plenty of value out of it when I do eventually get it. Same for Donkey Kong Bananza. I'm just saying I can understand why people are sceptical of Nintendo's statement that Switch 2 games are being priced according to their amount of content/value.
The most sensible thing to think. Moreover, it's obvious that Nintendo has changed strategies under the new president's command (ex-accountant) and it's more focused on the business side than ever before. Everything went well with Switch in terms of commercial performance, so they will be driving in that direction until the strategy fails.
Already paid for the MKW bundle, strongly considering picking up some third parties to support their efforts. I live in Australia so the preorder never went away.
Cyberpunk with the added controls seems like a fantastic deal especially with the full physical and DLC included. I didn't care to get it on my gaming rig and now I'm honestly more excited to buy it for the Switch 2.
There's some charm just missing buying Steam games, I have close to 1000 games on Steam (this isn't an exaggeration you're welcome to check my library using this username) but I am rarely tempted to play anything there.
There is a certain energy that comes with a brand new console launch and games that you only get once every few years.
@Varkster Totally agree with your last sentence. I've only ever gotten a console at launch only once or twice at most so if I can pick up a Switch 2 on launch that would be a pretty sweet feeling.
@Kairuuu Thank you, though I just ripped it off somewhere years ago since I love Bloodborne.
Unfortunately, I didn't make it myself so I can't brag about it hahaha
And yeah, this would actually be the first system since the Wii U I'm getting at launch. The others I always bought mid-gen for a specific game, when the Switch came out I was a lot less interested and was busy doing other things.
This is the first time in my adult mind that I am actually investing into a system at launch and it's for good reason, I see a lot of longevity in this platform and they have made a very clear promise in their Direct that they and other companies will be there to support the system day 1.
Seems like a good sell to me, especially since I loved the games shown. Wish everyone in the US luck on pre-orders, I know for a fact it won't be a breeze like it was in Australia. Seems like a whole mission with 3-day prep.
@Varkster I love Bloodborne also. I'm actually playing it right now. It and Elden Ring are two of my favourite games of all time.
Yeah, I'm confident the Switch 2 will do well. There are some really good games that will be releasing for the system which should be absolutely fantastic. I'm quite curious to pick up Elden Ring to see how it would run on a Switch 2 console and the thought of playing it in handheld mode gets me quite excited.
Hopefully the pre-orders in the US aren't crazy but I get the feeling they will be. Luckily I'm in a small town in the UK and I've noticed a few a few nearby retailers still have Switch 2's in stock for pre-order and collection, so I'm hoping that'll remain the case as I can't place an order until next month. I'm hoping I can nab one!
@Kairuuu In the UK has it been sold out in bigger regions? I haven't been following too closely though I know it's doing quite well in France, Germany and Japan based solely on preorder numbers and hearsay.
@Varkster Multiple retailers (around my area, at least) where I've looked online have mostly sold out. One retailer I looked at nearby has sold out in terms of buying online and getting the console delivered, however they have some in stock where you can buy online and collect in store.
Given that that's the case in my area, I can only imagine it's the same if not worse in some of the larger areas.
