I doubt I’ll be buying one at launch. The OG is just fine for me. I would like to get one by the end of the year or sometime early next year. My intention is to pick up the Switch 2 once Metroid Prime 4 releases, and maybe the new iteration of Fire Emblem. Better yet, a new Xenoblade game. I can’t wait to see what kind of world they can create with this new hardware — they are the masters of making massive open worlds games with lush environments, unique biomes, and having it run smoothly.

Why dont you guys buy at MediaMarkt in europe? I got mine for 430€, and MKW is at 73€ rn. I still gonna wait for a price drop on the MK, because there is still time for another drop in price.

The pre-orders are open in my country, but I will not get it at launch. I will wait for more games and for the physical situation of Elden Ring to be clarified.

I was planning to get a Switch Deux right away and "registered my interest" in a MKW Bundle on Nintendo's American website, but with this tariff debacle we are living under here in the US, who knows how much the system and games will cost, or even if Nintendo will stay with the announced release schedule?

More broadly speaking, with all this (self-inflicted) uncertainty and inflation in the economy right now, I can't guarantee I'll remain in a buying mood 2 months from now. I'm in no way hopeful that the current administration will remedy the situation or improve things at all for the working people in this country.

We'll just have to see how things shake out. I sure would like to be playing the new Mario Kart with my kids later this year, though, and buy those physical releases that are supposedly intact on the cartridge, like Cyberpunk 2077, Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion, and DK Bananza.

One of my main concerns will be how long the battery life will last in handheld, particularly with games that are going to be pushing the hardware to its limits - Elden Ring and Cyberpunk.

With the price in Greece at €520 (20 bucks more than Playstation 5), the answer is a very simple no. Knock a €100, have microSD Express cards become widely available, have physical games (and not this fake game-key crap) that Switch 1 doesn't have and then I'll be considering it.

I was debating whether to get the Switch 2 or a Steam Deck as my next handheld console, I was about 50/50 before the Direct but seeing the price being almost 400 quid in the UK and the cost of the games has really put me off getting one any time soon.

Other things really bothered me like the paid tutorial game and having to have the paid online subscription to use the voice chat function and on top of that no news (again) about Animal Crossing made the decision pretty easy for me.

I have a perfectly good Switch 1 that I will continue to use and if they ever decide to make another Animal Crossing game I'll consider buying a second hand Switch 2.

I've got a launch day preorder in the UK. It's the Mario Kart bundle. If I had to pay full price for Mario kart I might have waited. I don't mind £396 for the console price but the games, I'm probably going to be more picky and buy less games this generation. Also, I have a 1tb micro sd express card on back order, so spent quite a lot this time around.

I've got 2 orders placed at amazon & smyths toys, can't decide whether I trust amazon to deliver it or if I should go down to smyths on launch. Maybe I'll go down early morning.

I'm considering pre-ordering but I'm undecided yet. It comes out five days after Elden Ring Nightreign so I might be completely hooked on that by the time the Switch 2 releases. Time will tell though!

Got mine pre-ordered, there was never any doubt I’d be getting one. For me the only slight downside is the battery life had dropped back down to OG V1 Switch levels, but that’s the price we pay for the tech we’re getting, at the price we’re getting it at.
Besides, I’ve got dozens of power banks to keep me juiced up on the go if I need them, including a couple of beefy, yet surprisingly compact, 60,000mah monsters that will power damn near anything for hours on end.

Now it’s just the horrible, horrible, two month wait until I get my new toy in my hands.

Just like those around the world, I hope I can manage to snag one for PreOrder at my local retailers but man. But with that price I will have to really cringe on how to get the games next.

Still undecided. Definitely won't be getting Street Fighter 6 now. The soundtrack just kills it for me, with that melody-less forgettable depressing hip hop rap garble which pales in comparison to the punchy energetic OST's from SFII or even stuff like Alpha 3.

Anyways, I wouldn't mind holding off until July just to experience DK Bananza as a launch title too, which would make the launch feel a bit more substantial.

Arcade Archives 2 Ridge Racer is a weird one. I'll be buying that purely out of nostalgia, because i was a big fan of it in 1995 during the PS1's launch. Arcade version doubles the frame rate and has the edge in visuals, and the same brilliant soundtrack. But i highly doubt it's going to hold up. 15 minutes in, and than I'm probably out. but for $14.99 CAD, why not. It's just cool to have!

The way I see it is- Switch 2 will never drop price. If anything, it may actually increase. So if you can afford it and plan to get it eventually, you only get less bang for your buck every day you hold off. Because if you're gonna spend on it anyways, there's no advantage in waiting. All it accomplishes is... well, you get cheated out of time enjoying your console. Wait 6 months- that's 6 months of fun you forfeit, and gain nothing in return. If it was a fair exchange, like saving $100, there would be an argument for it. The only exception is if you plan to wait 2-3 years for a revision and hope it's one you're interested in (maybe you want an OLED but instead it's a Lite- then you wasted 2-3 years for nothing).

Of course, this logic only applies for those who can comfortably afford it and plan to buy one within the next 2-3 years.

@JaxonH Yeah, anyone waiting for a price drop on the original Switch is still waiting.

I'd rather run out(More like Ebay in this case)and buy a Top Loader NES. lol That thing came out in 93, and i still haven't seen one in person before. With a Multi-Out mod(Giving you Composite or Component) that fixes the funky RF jail bar problem that 'that' consoles been plagued with from the get-go, including a power on light mod by the power switch slider make it the definitive NES.

No, it won't be as nostalgiac as the OG NES, but the fact that it's top loading, you can see the cart's sticker art label, and it's much smaller make it an easy sell after forking over the Koopaling coins for a modded version off eBay. What makes the original NES less alluring to me these days, is that the once light bright grey top shell is no more.

They're all stained/yellow'd to a certain degree due to the chemicals in the plastic aging.
I dont think the Top loader has that problem, or the later versions of the SNES. Something like the Genesis & N64 are fine because they're black obviously. Yet, my indigo GameCube's purple appears slightly darker nearly every where compared to how it does on the top lid area. Weird. I can't remember if it was ever like that to begin with, or if my GCN's colouring is just stained and aged.

@skywake
Well that's the thing, their goal is to make the S2 as small, sleek and compact as possible, especially when they have to factor in a massive near-8" Screen, and then probably a 9" for the 2029 Switch 2 QD-OLED. The only real downside to this imo, is that the bottom right analog stick had to get positioned directly beneath the 4 face buttons. I don't know about you, but my thumb always hits the bottom right stick when i try and press the top 4 buttons. They couldn't place it in a normal diagonal position because then that would of obviously bulked out the width of the joy-con. BinBock or Hori will correct that, but neither will probably be boasting HD Rumble 2. There's always a missing feature with 3rd parties. Either way it doesn't have any effect on me, because i rarely play in handheld(Unless I'm browsing the eShop, while my TV's on in the background) and will rarely be using the Joy-con 2's unless they're being used with whacky quirky fun Gyro mouse controls in a future WarioWare or Mario Paint 2 for ex. 95% of the time, for me, it's going to be docked, Switch 2 Pro controller on a 65" QD-OLED.

Anyways, form factor aside, that doesn't mean you can't alter the design or style of the joy-con 2 themselves. They wanted to stick closely to what the Switch 1 was, instead of going the extra mile and being a bit more daring and unique. Switch 2 truly feels like a sequel to Switch 1, love it or hate it. I do like the neon blue & orange accents applied beneath the analog sticks and side rails like i pointed out before. It gives the Switch 2 almost a Genesis-like vibe. It truly saves the console from looking like a boring black slab of plastic.

It just would of been nice to have colored B,A,X,Z buttons(etc) just something fun and different that stands out a bit more. And I would of been more than happy if they brought back the GameCube's face buttons, with the giant A button & bean shaped X&Y. But most gamers wouldn't of been down for that. The SNES's Diamond 4-face button layout is standard, and has been since the mid 2000's. It's what most people want, and it's the safest and probably smartest way to go.

@WaveBoy I have seen the top loading Nes a few times, most gaming shops and such it definitely was an interesting console.

I was really gonna preorder the thing, but now?

I don't care much for the single investment (okay maybe an OLED later down the road too) of 400, 450, 500 or 550 for 5-8 years to be honest. I'm obviously not happy about game pricing though.
I've read all the arguments (it's like the 90's again, games are bigger now of course they cost more) yadda yadda yadda.

I'll have a wait and see approach. If I have to shell out 80 to 90 bucks for a new game, then it better be ready without a 10 GB day one patch, works perfectly, does not have any further monetization microtransaction garbage and all DLC on cart already... oh wait. Then I woke up.

The real dealbreakers for me to be an early adopter (or at all) are two things:

  • Nintendo's attitude
which is abysmal. It's been done over and over again, console manufacturer comes hot off the success of last gen and is all cocky and coprorate about it. Sega did it. Sony did it. Nintendo themselves already did it. Cut the corporate crap. Nintendo for the longest time was good in upholding the illusion that they are a "fun first" or "gaming experience first" company and not some greedy corporate gaming mill. Not anymore. Screw this. It's more of the same games, attitude and experiences and I am in no rush to experience the same games from Nintendo I played for 30 years just a bit bigger and shinier.
  • That Pro Controller and their stance towards analogue triggers.
I've vented my frustration often enough already. I'll spare you one more go at it. It's just ridiculous and the reasoning given is beyond stupid.

So... I'll wait and see because I don't trust Nintendo anymore.

Who says NSO will work perfectly in the first few weeks? Most likely a blunder. Who knows what comes from the whole tarif situation (the problem is not the tarifs it's the greed), does the Switch 2 in a twist of fate STILL support third party analogue controllers? Is Mario Kart World really THAT KIND of a banger worth having immediately or is it just more of the same but larger in scale?

So I wait and see. No preorder.
