I love this franchise so much! I know the gameplay is different compared to the other three but I don’t care! The story (I hope) has got to be amazing along with the world! Plus xenoblade mechs are just so cool!

Nintendo are like woman, You love them for whats on the inside, not the outside…you know what I mean! Luzlane best girl!

@Snatcher
The main story is considerably weaker (and shorter) than the main trilogy, but it’s not the main focus- 90% of the game is side quests , and with that comes an extra focus on world building. Not saying either approach is better, just letting you know what you’re in for so you’re not disappointed.

@Snatcher X has the weakest of the series' stories. Most of the game is built around exploring and doing side-quests, with the story ending at what would be the halfway point in the other games.

@VoidofLight Really? Darn that sucks. I’m sure the gameplay and characters are cool though and I do enjoy more of xenoblade world (whichever one this is)

I feel like after I played xenoblade one and two then now Nier replicant and persona my standards for rpgs have heavily change to the point I couldn’t even enjoy sea of stars.

@Munchlax wasn’t a big fan of one’s side quest nor twos tbh but I guess it takes playing and seeing.

Honestly thank you two so much for the heads up I think it’s thoughtful as I didn’t know.

@Snatcher The world in X is entirely separate from the other games and their worlds from my understanding.

Also it isn't really the standards shifting for RPGs and moreso that Sea of Stars just wasn't really a good game to begin with. It tried to be more like Chrono Trigger without understanding what made Chrono Trigger so good in the first place. I love NieR Replicant, but I feel like even if I never played that or Xenoblade- I would've still probably disliked Sea of Stars.

@Snatcher the story is incredibly poorly told and even once you piece it together or look it as a whole it's still not...good. Same for about half of the party members (which are far too many in the first place), with the rest being good. Not great, as far as I can even remember them, but fine.

The focus of that game was entirely in gameplay and even that isn't as refined or fun as Xenoblade 3's, in retrospect. It's kind of a product of its time, even though the game isn't even a decade old at this point, I think. I enjoyed my time with it back when it released but it's nowhere near in the same ballpark as any of the titles that came after it.

What DOES set it apart and makes it a more unique experience than most other RPGs I've played is the DEEP customization for your mech. That s*** is fun. A lot. But because you can break the combat system as a whole in half without even having to look up how it means even that is never going to be quite as engaging as difficult fights in the other titles. And this time I'd include even XC1.

X is incredibly easy to the point where most of your time is going to be just grinding stuff to make gear, level classes or upgrade your mech. It's a wide /large game but it's incredibly shallow to allow that variety within the world.

Like many XC fans, I got into it with XC2. I watched a very relaxing gameplay of X not too long ago. I can't wait to play it myself for the first time!

It's funny. When Nintendo announced XCX the first thing I remembered was the OST of this game -"Wir fliegen". I can't get this soundtrack out of my head. 😅
Then I thought this song is quite fitting. Because Nintendo has not much time left to reveal the Switch 2. March isn't far off.
And who doesn't know. The chorus is singing(in German) that "the clock is ticking".

Wir Fliegen is all the incentive you need to learn how to extend Overdrive indefinitely.

Never played this when it originally released on the Wii-U, since I never had one. I am just so happy it got announced for Switch and will be getting it Day 1

Aside from best buy, does anyone know who else is doing a pre-order bonus? I'll be pre-ordering soon here

Overzeal

Does this game require knowledge of the other games? I haven’t played 2 or 3.

The price will not change.

SplatRay001

@Overzeal as far as I’m aware, no. Apart from some of the potential new content in this remaster, X is standalone. You could say the same for 2 or 3, but I think those two benefit much more from playing the previous games. X doesn’t really factor into the main plot of the trilogy.

No. 2 and 3 didn’t release until afterwards. There are references to 1, but they’re mainly cameos and easter eggs. The games aren’t even set in the same universe.

Although I haven't played x, each game can be played without playing the others.

SplatRay001

@NintendoByNature while this is technically true, I do think that certain story elements in 2 and especially 3 don’t hit nearly as hard if you didn’t play the previous games. I would always recommend players to start with Xenoblade 1 DE, then 2 and finally 3 for the maximum impact

@SplatRay001 oh no doubt. I fully get what you're saying. And players should start with 1, but if you go with any of the others they're still great self contained games.

@Overzeal I'd definitely play 2 and 3. X isn't connected (that we know of), but the newest trailer really has imagery that feels like it's connected to Xenoblade 3 specifically. Especially with the new area in X.

@NintendoByNature Yes, but no. 1, 2, and 3 are technically self-contained, but 3 really depends on you knowing 1 and 2 to fully enjoy it. Especially with some plot points that aren't really explained unless you know what happens in 1 and 2 (as it assumes you know). The DLC for 3 is also extremely reliant on the rest of the games for people to fully understand it, and even spoils the other games in the credits. I genuinely don't suggest that people play 3 first, given how it really pushes the whole "self-contained, no spoilers" thing. 2 at least has minimal spoilers for Xenoblade Chronicles 1.

I really would wait and see with X's new content, since there's a chance it'll either connect lore-wise but stay it's own thing, or that it will connect fully and create a spoiler issue for those who haven't played 1-3. (3 spoilers) it seems like the content added to X is going to dive into the "ghosts," which are akin to Ouroboros in design- along with annihilation events (renamed of course), and black fog- which has become a prevalent thing in Future Connected, Future Redeemed, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 specifically.

Okay, the changes are more extensive than I realized. There's still some stuff I wish they'd shift, but I'll probably be willing to give this game another shot.

At least some remixed music, too. This sounds great.

Ugh. Men.

I wasn't sure if I'd get X for Switch at launch but today I noticed that I still have one voucher lying around. Since they are ending the voucher system soon, I might as well use it.

I got X for Wii U at launch but never played it. My plan was to finish the original first despite knowing that X was its separate thing. I'd dropped it at Eryth Sea.

Switch came out and I fell in love with XC2. Fast forward few years and XC3 was on its way and I still hadn't finished the first game so I got the remake and I actually finished it. I believe I completed Future Connected a day before 3 came out. Loved 3, probably my favorite out of the three.

@Ralizah What's the first video? It won't load in for me.
