I’ve played about two hours so far. It’s really good. The combat is more quick and fluid, with a ton of customization options. And the soundtrack is god-tier.
@SplatRay001 Yeah, I picked mine up at a local game shop and they had already sold out their entire allocation - barring my reserved copy - by the time I got there. That's always a promising sign.
That said, I expect that they had a lot more copies of AC Shadows to get through. Ubisoft probably need it to sell ten million copies just to break even.
@Matt_Barber It's funny that Ubisoft released their game the same day that an actual good Open World game came out. It's like they can't even win for losing.
"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."
There is absolutely no correlation beyond them coming out on the same day, but I played a couple of hours of AC Shadows and felt pretty mixed on the whole thing, then I thought I'd give this a go instead and five hours later, I'm hooked 😂
Looks great, love all the customisation options, combat feels excellent, systems seem deep but they are opened out to you in a way that limits how overwhelming they could otherwise be.
I am so hyped for this game. Everything I've read and seen so far has positively impact my decision to pick this up.
Possibly the best open-world game for exploration and world building.
-This has the best and optimized performance of all the Xenoblade series. A consistent 30fps without the resolution issues that plagued 1, 2 and to some extent 3 while playing in handheld mode. Which is truly an amazing feat considering how huge the game map is compared to the previous series.
-Music soundtrack while is divided amongst fans, thought it was pretty good. This style gives it a more modern touch to match the sci-fi theme and its story. I could understand them using Hiroyuki Sawano as the composer this time around.
-All of the quality of life improvements has made the game that much better when it comes to grinding, combat and user interface. This alone, has actually helped increase the overall scores compared to the Wii U original.
I guess the only negative, is the narrative plot which doesn't bother me as much others, since I'm more into the gameplay/combat and exploration when it comes to what I enjoy the most in my game. Looking forward to some initial impression.
Ive love to have Xenoblade X for my Switch Lite right now but Im already way too busy with game for my Switch lite and for my Playstation 3 and Playstation 4 and Gamecube
I have a complaint. The having to manually scroll through the fashion gear list is ridiculous. You can have a new item half-way or two-thirds of the way down the list and you've got to scroll past silly amounts of question marks just to reach it so that the 'New item' notification goes away. Gear yet to be obtained doesn't really need to be on the list in the first place, but the lack of a filter option is infuriating.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
@gcunit something about the entire pause menu feels off to me and having to press B multiple times to get back to gameplay is odd considering you can still traverse but not actually command your character. That's really my only gripe so far. It's a clunky menu screen. I guess I also don't like having to manually accept the rewards after a battle.
I also have to give a complaint too, progression is really oddly handled in this game. To me anyway. Like I picked up a companion mission, not realising that to finish it, I had to place probes and just wait and pray it generated these exact resources out of an RNG pool. Like there is nothing you can do, I hoped changing the time would trigger the resource ticks but it didn't. So I was just stuck until RNG let me progress as once you pick up one of these affinity missions, you cannot do any other affinity / story missions in the meantime, only normal or quest board stuff. I learnt my lesson now and make sure to save before I start any of these, as if it looks like a step is just gonna completely halt my progress I just reload my save and do something else. I'm amazed it made it into the game like this, to be honest.
@NintendoByNature Those are a few minor complaints too. I wish you didn’t have to constantly open loot boxes after every single encounter. It breaks the immersion just a tad. It’s not a major gripe, but it’s something I recognize.

My only complaint is attack an enemy, accidentally target another enemy across the map somehow and all your allies ditch you and run off. >_>
Like, they see me target an enemy off in the distance and instantly go after it, but they can't instantly come back when I target the right enemy.
I don't remember dealing with this on the Wii U, either...it's weird, and kinda annoying. I've died multiple times because of this, and not noticing it until like, the 3rd death or something.
To be honest, enemy placement / mission placement is really strange in general imo. When you have no way to get out of these affinity / story missions once you are in them, putting the level appropriate boss to end this quest literally directly next to an enemy about 45 levels above us that will inevitably end up getting involved just ends up making the whole experience way more frustrating than it needs to be. Like I know this is just part of the Xenoblade experience, but it doesn't mean I have to like it. Same with those normal / board quests, I picked up loads waiting for that ore to RNG into my inventory and the amount of missions with a low level recommendation that are for some reason on the far corner of the map, impossible to reach, just doesn't make any sense to me.
