Zelda: Breath Of The Wild And Tears Of The Kingdom Will Be Enhanced On Switch 2

Yeah, can't say I was surprised. Hopefully BotW includes the DLC alongside the visual enhancements.

As someone who has yet to play both, despite playing the majority of other Zelda titles, I know which version I'm getting.

Being able to share Ultrahand creations is amazing.

@LEGEND_MARIOID you can buy upgrade packs instead...but I don't feel great about that either. having two separate versions is a baffling maneuver

@somebread I hope the upgrade packs aren't too pricey, but honestly, it sucks that they're charging for this at all. Even PS5 lets you upgrade from PS4 versions for free.

I might pick up BotW (though the game performs fine enough for me anyway), have a hard time seeing myself ever bothering to play TotK again so very much doubt I'll ever drop the money on that one.

I know this is "meh" for a lot of folks, but I genuinely can't wait for this. I love BOTW/TOTK and have a 4k OLED TV... finally I get to experience it in full HDR glory!

I got BOTW on WiiU so she times it's hard to revisit, so I can see me grabbed that enhanced. I don't know about TOTK. Maybe the digital upgrade or something. Not a priority.

Not sure about having to pay to upgrade the games. Even most older games on PS4 and Xbox One didn't require anything like this even first party games there were probably only a few exceptions to that.

I finally got around to buying Tears of the Kingdom two (2) days ago!

How much are you willing to pay for the upgrades?

If it's $20 or under, I'm buying that upgrade pack ASAP. Breath of the Wild is my favourite game of all time I would love to replay it enhanced!

Only Nintendo can get me to drop 140 on games I bought CEs for already.

So how can you upgrade if you own physical copies of the game?

Unsurprising announcement. I love the games dearly, but I really hoped that if they were doing this they'd also add a bit more story-content. Or in a dream-world, somehow remix them into one single, epic adventure.

If BotW includes the DLC and has all content on-cart, then I'm sure I'll pick both of these up as collectibles, but overall this is an underwhelming update saved by the stellar quality of the games they're based on.

The smartphone-stuff is white noise to me. Any gameplay feature relying on apps will be deprecated sooner rather than later, so they're a novelty at best.

Very excited about this!! Finally I can play BOTW/TOTK in their best possible state.

I'm hoping the upgrade packs are less than $20. Hopefully it will be $9.99, to boost a $60 Switch 1 game up to $70. That would be perfect, but I'm preparing for $14.99 or more...

However, they hardly announced any new features for BOTW/TOTK like they did for Kirby Star Crosed World. I need to see an expansion pass content for TOTK! Just the companion app tips is not going to cut it for me! Although I am very appreciative for the one new announced feature for TOTK being the sharing/downloading other people's zonai creations automatically with QR codes, which is very much needed!

Honestly interested to see how these might be better. Frankly...some DLC would have been nice additions...but regardless, I remain interested in seeing how they've been upgraded.

The ability to import other peoples' creations to TOTK is probably gonna be what tips me over the edge on upgrading these games.

Oh great, now people can enjoy the same thing modders have been doing since day1 😅

Need to see how much these upgrades are first and go from there. I didn't beat Breath until 2020 but I should've played and beaten Tears right after it first launched. Maybe still not beating it yet is one thing in this upgrade's favor for me?

@N00BiSH The upgrade for both is free for Expansion Pack members. That's great. I hope that's the case for all the upgraded games.

Nice, I guess the only feature the Switch 2 versions will lack are Labo VR support which is okay as that didn't work out too well anyways.

I need upgrades for DOOM, Mortal Kombat, Wolfenstein, The Witcher and many more. I really hope that most titles will get this treatment, and that most developers will make it as a free patch for their games.

I'm not sure I'll want these upgrades. Although, these upgrade packs may be worth it on a large 4k tv. Since current switch looks kinda low res on a large 4k tv.

It is very disappointing that I have to pay again for these games to play them at higher FPS. I thought the Switch 2 would run Switch 1 games automatically at higher performance, without needing an extra edition of these games. I guess these are worth it if one does not own the Switch 1 games though.

İ have played both this 2 games. İ liked Tears of the kingdom more. Breath of the wild was great game too. İncredible two beautiful games.

@andyg1412 Okay, that's great news! It fits for BOTW/TOTK because their S2E's aren't as feature-packed as Kirby's.

Interesting how Switch 2 Editions seem to be handled on a case-by-case basis, because the BOTW/TOTK S2E's were announced as bundled with NSO+, while Kirby+Star-Crossed World included no such announcement. It's possible Kirby could be sold separately like Super Mario 3D World. But to my eyes it's just a remix of the original levels from Forgotten Land with the new star feature, as opposed to new content from a new space in the game, so I'm not sure it will justify a full purchase from me since I already own it.

Will be interesting to see how they handle Metroid Prime 4 and Pokemon Legends ZA's upgrade packs since they haven't released yet.

@Toastmaster it’s true, but Nintendo isn’t as rich as Microsoft…and a lot of these Nintendo games are a year or more old, so it makes sense… would have liked to see Mario party jamboree as a free upgrade since it’s newer, but I’m OK with all the other ones

Quite a bit of work goes into changing an SDR game into HDR unless they're using some sort of AI auto HDR which I highly doubt. I get why they'd want to charge a little money for that reason alone (although it could be argued that it's not on us to fund their modernization efforts considering it was their decision to pass on HDR for the Switch1 in the first place). I'm sick to death of this gen of Zelda so I'll pass but I'm so excited for whatever the next game will look like.

@Ulysses can already see a situation where parents buy the S2 physical versions of Pokémon and MP4 only to discover they won't work on little Billy's original Switch.

Would these Switch 1 games still benefit from the Switch 2 hardware regarding framerate dips, that we see in some titles, without the enhanced upgrade? Would they run a bit smoother than on Switch 1?

While this doesn't do enough to either game for me to pay to upgrade, it appears that'll be a moot point since Nintendo finally convinced me to dive into the expansion pack on Switch 2. GCN access FTW!

@SpaceboyScreams I'm the opposite. I've loved the BOTW era of Zelda so much that I'm terrified I'm going to hate the next art style. And if that happens then I'll have to wait more like 15~ years before I experience another Zelda that I really love.

And let's see if BoTW will be able to run at 4K. If that's the case, then the alleged Gamescom 2023 tech demos would've been right all along, it could run Matrix Awakens after all?

If the NS2 boxed copies have all the data on the carts, I’ll probably buy them just for personal preservation.

Yeah I might wait a bit, but in 2 years BOTW will be 10 years old, and I'll be ready to play it again. I'm currently finishing Skyward Sword HD and it was fresh again. Can't wait to see BOTW in 4K HDR!

Oh, having them included as part of the NSO Expansion Pack is a nice feature. Decent alternative to paying for each one outright.

@andyg1412 still a ***** move from Nintendo. For casual players who don't care about NSO this is really an unfair treatment.

However, I will wait to see the price policy before shouting too loud.
The consequence might be, that the Switch 2 games get a price markup compared to switch 1 games. Or switch 1 games a price drop. Otherwise it will be strange. If they keep the priced of a Switch 1 TotK same like the Switch 2 version, no need to lock the update behind a pay wall...
Also, I am afraid Nintendo will make this a general Policy, so even 3rd Party Devs need to follow this. Not a single game/update announced today included a free update...

Arrgh. I was really happy TotK didn’t get new amiibos and I didn’t have to hunt them down to keep my Zelda set complete. Hopefully these will be well stocked and won’t be too big of a hassle to buy.

@Asaki First of all, that's not a new art style, that is the Link's Awakening art style. Secondly, that's not the new art style for 3D Zelda, which was the presumed topic I was discussing in my post.

I can’t find info anywhere about whether the DLC will be included in the Switch 2 edition of BotW. I wish they’d tell us.
