Great news! Here's hoping I can snag one.

My prayers were answered! I start my new job May 5th after being laid off. I have the money for it that isn't a problem, but I was worried if preorders opened while I'm training at work and I would miss out. Now I can stay up all night keeping an eye on Best Buy, Target and Walmart for when they go live. Hoping for Best Buy since they have the midnight launch

This has been a terrible launch. I am not excited at all... Oh well.

@ButterySmooth30FPS the price for the pro 2 controller was already high, but I plan to use my existing controller anyways.

$95 for Joycon is insane...

Not as bad as I thought honestly. I had $90 budgeted for the Pro Controller. The camera was definitely a lot more than thought but IIRC the PS5 camera is around the same price.

Now if we just had a price for the GameCube Controller.

The uncertainty about future pricing will probably make it the biggest launch ever.

No interest at the moment probably look to pick up next year. Will see how well it sells in the first year with these high price points.
Maybe might be better deals by then. Especially it the market is struggling.
Still can’t see them shift 15-20m units in first year. At these prices.

Ugh. So the Pro Controller is going to cost over $110 in Canada, and that's without tax.

Edit: Sorry I was mistaken. They have NOT raised the prices for the accessories in Canada. The CAD price remains equivalent to the original $79 USD.

I really don't want to be a downer, but somehow this really depresses me. In addition to nickel-and-diming us on accessories EVEN MORE than they already were, they're effectively saying that future games will be more expensive on average. I don't know if we'll see any $90 games, but I think it's likely that games previously planned for $70 are going to be $80. Add that to Game-Key Cards and needing to buy MicroSD EXPRESS cards, and I think my excitement for this system is finally reaching a tipping point. It's starting to just fill me with dread.

Just checked and same day for Canada! 699.99 for the Mario Kart bundle is my budget for the year for entertainment though

Good, although I’m waiting for the My Nintendo Store in May and hope Nintendo itself doesn’t sell out before I might be chosen. But we’ll see if those prices hold when the tariff chaos returns from July on and the economy worsens.

Wasn't the Switch 2 pro controller $80 to begin with?

@Rainz honestly I don't spent a lot on entertainment other than video games, and with the Switch I got... about 1500 hours in Smash, 400 hours in Fire Emblem, probably 500 hours combined in the 2 Zeldas, 400 hours in the 2 Octopath Travelers.... so for cost/time value over 8 years, if I get similar time spent on Switch 2 I can see that being pretty cheap in the long term.

Glad to hear/read this for my fellow NA inhabitants. Pricing doesn't seem terrifying at this time. As I've mentioned elsewhere, I'm gonna wait awhile before picking up a Switch 2. I have other purchases in the pipe to plan for in the interim.

@Willo567 I do blame him. But Nintendo also had a choice. They're in the middle of a storm of bad press right now, just one thing after another. It may have been wiser for them to take the hit on their (likely high) margins in order to try to maintain customer loyalty.

During the Switch generation Nintendo generated a ton of goodwill from me. I've gone from enjoying Nintendo products to becoming a fiercely loyal fan of theirs. But this constant barrage of bad news is steadily chipping away at that. I wish they'd take steps to stop the bleeding, even if they are dealing with economic circumstances beyond their control.

@Dev-N I don't know how the system is in the US, but if it's like the UK, if you've been selected for the program, they'll have a Switch 2 reserved for you to pre-order. Unless you don't respond within 24 hours of your invitation, you don't have to worry about it selling out.

Joycon and pro controller prices were already too high, especially for families. $95 joycons and $85 pro cons, oof. On top of that, switch joycons and procons have gotten about zero sales in the US since 2021.

Does Nintendo need to re-assess their controller philosophy? Controller innovation is nintendo's thing, but does a family need 4k rumble, nfc reader, optical sensors for a second set of joycons for little timmy and tammy to play Mario Party? I'm not sure I've ever seen any decent joycon alternatives from third parties.

I'm gonna hold off on the Pro Controller. See if the new joycons have legs or have drift. And hope for the best.

@87th I think it's actually 72 hours. But uh the problem is that they're not planning on telling us whether we've been selected until early May. So if I want to try to ensure I get a Switch 2, I have to try to secure a retailer pre-order as a backup. It's a bad system.

@TrogdorTheBurninator Rather all the stock they got in early and those from Vietnam … peripherals are mostly produced in China though, that‘s why they went up first.

Great for launch, but ultimately this is going to be Nintendo’s most expensive console by a long shot. I hope I can get one either based on Nintendo entry or at a retailer but if I cannot at launch I might be skipping this Nintendo generation fully just due to prices/tariffs/world economy.

I wonder if I should hold out for the my Nintendo invitation. Any update on that, are those still going out May 8? Wondering because that seems like a less stressful buying experience.

Glad the console and game price is still the same, but it does suck that the accessories are even more expensive now. Sure things like the dock and Nintendo branded Express SD Cards aren't needed or can be gotten cheaper, but the Joy Con 2 pair being so expensive kinda sucks for any multiplayer games that are going to require them or at least have a cool exclusive mode with them. Makes me glad at least we can use old Joy con on modern games easily. And at least these are the ones getting increased when they are the least needed, at least for launch

Anyway, I’m not gonna be getting a ton of accessories, just a pro controller, carrying case + screen protector, and maybe a MicroSD Express card. I’ll definitely take raising the price of accessories over raising the price of the console.

@jfp That's not exactly true. It only works as a "gamecube" controller for GC NSO. But for all other purposes, it's essentially a pro controller.

I’ll be getting the Switch 2 Bundle and the Carrying Case + Screen Protector. Just an extra 5$ for me in the end so I don’t care. I might eventually get the Pro controller but definitely in no rush to get one, same goes for the Camera.

Even with the price increase, they are still cheaper in the US than Europe.

I think the Switch 2 is overpriced but am planning now on trying to get 1 anyway b/c it does feel like the price will only go up.

Now, I'm not trying too hard. Not paying scalper prices or anything like that. But if I can place a preorder w/ Amazon, Target or Best Buy I will. Hmm. I think I will get the system at launch at this point. I don’t trust that prices will stay the same. Nintendo is probably using the pause and adjustments to front load shipments and hope for the best. But that will either mean stock shortages or price increases if things don’t calm down (I suspect Nintendo’s original plan was to ride the launch price out same as with switch…who knows now). Not their fault, but I simply don’t like to pay price hikes if I don’t have to. Will focus on amiibo and the GameCube controller. Still super hyped for the launch though.

This is the first time I recall reading the Mario Kart Canadian price... $110? That's about $125 in my province after tax... I'm leaning towards pre-ordering the bundle to save, but MKW may be the only S2 game I have for a while. Yikes.

I am going to preorder (if I can get one), mostly for updates to Zelda games and mkw. Not a lot of other launch titles have gotten my interest. Hopefully there’s more out soon. I’d love a civ vii demo for S2 and dk demo. That might get me to buy into those titles.

But these accessory prices… I’m fine with the console price, to be honest. But to get extra controllers (pro and joycon) is going to be $200 (with tax)!

It will be interesting to see how long these prices hold. Nintendo had already shipped hundreds of thousands of units to the US before the tariffs took effect, so it will be interesting to see if there are any price increases by Christmas.

wow you have to take out a loan to get a switch 2 and it's accessories..

So rough estimate, if I want the system, MKW, Switch 2 Pro Controller, and a 1TB microSD Express Card (+tax), I'm looking upwards of around $750 to come up out of. Phew. I think what I'll do is focus on getting the accessories this year, then circle back to the Switch 2 next year.

These Canadian prices are terrible. Donkey Kong is $70 USD, games of that price are usually converted to about $90 CAD, but nope it’s now $100 CAD for DK because why the hell not. Don’t even get me started on Mario Kart. 😭

I think my PS5 Fat purchase looked worthier despite I have to spent almost 9 Million Rupiah, the most expensive console I have ever purchased.

@Anti-Matter I spent a lot of money getting an OG Japanese Dreamcast on day of release in London, on top of that paying for imported Japanese games! Then getting it modded! This era pales in comparison...people were dropping £1000+ for import PS2s when they became available over here.

I'm glad the joy-cons are apparently better and I can use the old pro controller because no way am I paying that much for the SW2 pro controller. Lol

Kind of bummed I registered interest with the standalone Switch 2 for the My Nintendo pre order. I want the bundle after watching the MK Direct! Now I'll have to partake in the mad rush over snagging my own pre order from a regular retailer.

Okay, not too bad. Might hold off on accessories until I hear they don’t have drift, and look into third party webcams. But I can live with that.

This is a choice I hadn't considered. I think it's a good move. And the price increases aren't TOO bad, relatively speaking. That's a good question though - will they reduce if "market conditions" "improve?"

Thankfully they bumped up the prices of the accessories so the people acting like Nintendo was gonna have the Switch 2 be $900 in the US still have something to complain about. Even then, the only substantial increases are to things with actual tech in them like the controllers and dock, which is understandable.

But... is there really nothing bigger than 256 for micro SD Express cards right now? My current is almost full and 512GB is as much storage as the Switch 2's internal and the only card I've seen combined.

@slipperygerik simply because I have more faith in Nintendo to provide me the product than a retail store who can simply cancel your order because they oversold the actual stock they receive. Nintendo is less likely to oversell what they have in stock. Can you tell I've been burnt by this before?

@Scarmucci Seems so, thought I think it's an overall price increase like when they went from $12.99 to $15.99 rather than region specific. GameStop has the TOTK ones listed at $19.99, so a 4 dollar increase, and GameStop listings were the ones which confirmed only physical copies of Switch 2 games would cost more.

@shoeses Technically there is. Lexar makes them in 512GB and 1TB, but they are hella expensive and on top of that, they are complete garbage. The Lexar I tried to buy for my OG Switch wouldn’t even work. So I’d stick to Sandisk and Samsung. Never had problems with either.

I’m happy to hear we finally have a date in the west, I’ll try and get one with a pro controller, Mario kart, and I’d like to see about and sd card in the future. I’m not sure where to get the right express card in 1 tb size for a good price. It is pricey but that’s just how things are going to be for awhile. Groceries are bad enough. I’ll just have to be choosy on which games I buy moving on.

To those in US and Canada there will be alot of belt tightening as how to get Switch 2 or how to do it without breaking your budget is what's going to be the choices here.

@Splash_Woman a lot of places don’t charge until shipment. I am going to GameStop as I don’t want to fight with the hordes and hopefully I can get an in store preorder. If you don’t plan on paying upfront (I do) it’s usually 50 bucks down for a console preorder (maybe prepare for 100 just in case they have restrictions).

On another note, I think they did the smart thing, increasing accessories slightly and taking a bigger loss on the console rather than the other way around. None of it is good, but the optics would have looked much worse if the console were $50 more. $450/£396 is a reasonable price considering it is a home console and a portable console. It offers as much if not a bit more, than a Steam Deck, which is in the same price bracket.

$500/£500/Euros seems to be around the hard limit for the mass market. The PS5 pro offering far more supply than demand has shown that. If you are throwing $/£800 on just a console with a disc drive, you probably would pay a bit more to get a PC anyway.

At launch, I will buying a Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle, Cyberpunk 2077 UE physical & 256GB microSD Express. That's enough for now

Yea, I just looked at the Canadian prices, $110 for Mario Kart World and $100 for DK Bananza, not going to lie, I think I just lost interest. That's WAY too much for those games when most modern games are $90.

@WiltonRoots Totally agree, gaming has never been more affordable than in the last few years with constant sales, no region lock etc. Still remember my modded Japanese N64 that I got used from a friend who payed 1200 € at launch for it … or getting the U.S. import of Mortal Kombat 4 for 160 €. Gaming today is dirt cheap by comparison.

@Scarmucci : The upcoming amiibo have already seen a price hike, at least in Australia.

Originally, amiibo retailed for AU$17.95, then they were increased to $21.95 beginning with the standard-sized BOTW figures. Older amiibo maintained their original RRP, but since being reissued in more recent years, they have also been increased to $21.95.

The upcoming TOTK amiibo are retailing for $29.95, which was the higher price for the more complex Guardian amiibo back in 2017.

The Street Fighter 6 figures are sold exclusively via the My Nintendo Store in Australia, and cost $44.95 each, up on the asking price for the jumbo-sized Detective Pikachu, which retailed for AU$39.95 in 2018.

@Jester676 oh yeah I am not doing that. I will go to the closest two gamestops on my lunch break. If I get a preorder great, if not then I will hold until Zelda edition as originally planned. Working for gamestop ruined midnight launches for me. But also helped curb my consumer addiction as well. I have a much more lax outlook than I did when I was younger.

@jfp yeah my N64 was a US import but I cheaped out on not getting the RGB mod, which I regretted big time because the default display on the N64 was sadly a brown blurry sludge…

@SillyG I realize that. The US price of $ 19.95 is already higher than the 2017 prices. My question is with the $ 5 Trump tax apply to the $ 19.95 price tag as it will be with the Switch 2 accessories. Nintendo did not include this info in their press release.

@WiltonRoots Yeah those weren’t cheap. Had to replace the NTSC-RGB converter once, cost several weeks to find on eBay and over a hundred bucks. Good old times.

at least the hardware and games are not going up in price so fans be grateful for that Nintendo will not drop the price so quit it

Nice! I wonder if the Nintendo store itself still plans to wait until May 9th to send out its invites. If so I’ll probably see if I can snag a retailer preorder before then.

Still not getting a Switch 2 at launch, but it's a relief to see the most important aspects - the console and games - aren't getting price hiked. Makes me less hopeful that they'll slash prices later though (not that I was actually holding out hope for it, to be fair).

110 Canadian dollary doos for Mario Kart, good lord. Hope I can score the bundle.

The good news is that the price increases were nowhere near as bad as I thought they were going to be; some were speculating that the whole tariff situation would make the Switch 2 over $650 here in the U.S. so the price for the console and the games remaining unchanged and only a $5-10 price increase on accessories is not as bad as we were expecting.

The bad news is that preorders will open on a day that I happen to be working. The previous date of April 2, plus the rumored revised dates of April 21 and April 30 were both my days off, and I cannot justify taking time off from work for this. Assuming that the rumor that preorders will sell out very quickly is true, I might end up missing out on snagging mine.

The Switch 2 is only $100 more than the Switch OLED at launch. Not sure what some are suggesting here.

Gonna try and snag a Switch 2 + MKW bundle from Best Buy with in-store pickup. If Best Buy doesn't pan out, I'll aim for GameStop or Costco.

@HammerKirby I think the chance of it being a fake pro controller is higher than I want to mess around with. I've already had at least one terrible misleading product from a third party seller on walmart's site. Plus, I've seen at least one post from someone with a pro controller problem, and as we probed further, it turned out to be knockoff from a third party seller on the walmart site. That seller, "Care for There", with that current $45 listing, only has one review rating, which isn't a confidence booster.😆 I'm mainly outlining these details in case the info benefits anyone else that may be reading. @WoomyNNYes Yea it is weird that was very easy to get a Switch Pro for $60 for the very 4 years and then things just kinda dried up... eBay may be the best bet here as long as you get good photos beforehand and the seller has good feedback.Dang! Looking on there, quite convincing looking fakes are running rampant on there!

Props to Nintendo for not giving in to the Drop The Price backlash, but also doubling down by raising the price of accessories. Of course my decision to wait on buying a NS2 made it a lot easier for me to take in this news. Happy gaming to the early adopters, give my condolences to your dearly departed wallets!

I just hope I get an email invitation next week. I wasn't an early adopter for the Switch, but I am going to be this time around. We've been wanting a second Switch for years, so we might as well upgrade. Mostly excited for Mario Kart and finally getting to play through Wind Waker with the kiddos! I don't think we'll be spending $85 for Pro Controllers, though. They were expensive enough to purchase for Switch 1!

For once, I would say that this one launch you probably don't need to wait on if nothing else. At least in the U.S with tariffs and everything, there is a high chance that the Switch 2 will increase in price in the future.

Taking that into consideration, guess its better to get it now rather than wait later. Sure, an OLED model will probably drop later on and other special editions, but who knows what the economic situation will look at that point?

Good to know the price of the console won't be going up at launch. Hyped for the system!!

Great news! I hope they announce a time for preorders. A whole day is a long time to be trying to order.

@LastFootnote A lot of my friends had to get one elsewhere, because they're part of NSO Family Plans and they're only inviting the main accounts on each plan. Something to watch out for. It hasn't been so hard to secure one in the UK. Hopefully the same in the US.

@OldGamer999 Dude I was there, too. When the GameCube launched it cost more than my half of the rent. I had to skip the N64 because my full time job only paid $4.50 an hour. Are you actually old or is it just a handle?

While I did sign up for the My Nintendo pre-order, think I'll try for an MKW bundle through Best Buy and if my luck sucks on that, just go with the basic version I signed up for with Nintendo.

Sucks that accessories are up for any that planned to buy them, I expect the amiibo will see a price increase as well and they're the only thing I want to buy alongside the console. Will be holding off on playing Rune Factory till I get my S2

I use to frequent Computer Exchange in Rathbone place (Now known as CEX) , they had all the new imports , But i waited for the Euro launch on DC , and literally saved up £500 to spend on the day.
Was awesome.

Welp, glad the prices on the things I care about are staying the same. Still never paying $80 for a game, so I guess I'll have to start waiting on sales for their biggest titles.

I'm worried about later this year, and frankly, I'll be surprised if these prices stay for long. Not to scare people, but there might be a recession in which a video game console would be the last thing we worry about affording. I'd better get ahead of that.

I have games like Mario Kart and Donkey Kong to look forward to, but a possibly grim future is what's pushing me to get Switch 2 more than anything. If I don't get it this June when the prices stay the same, I'll literally pay for it later when Nintendo is forced to raise them in even more chaotic times!

@Not_Soos sorry to say, but your comment looks more like an overreaction to a few posts to me though. There’s a lot of generalization in it. I haven’t seen anyone claim that the price of the console would go up to 700 dollars.

Also, with a predicted 40-50% chance on a recession currently, you can’t ignore the fact that the administration absolutely seems to be creating a chaotic America run by oligarchs who want nothing more than tax benefits and more money. And the poor and dependent are already reaping the detriments of it. Easy victims / targets sadly

@OldGamer999 Me too, bud. I admit that I didn't buy that one, since I was only 7. I did buy the SNES with my allowance though. It took all year at 5 bucks a week. I assume kids these days might get at least 10, which would only put them about two months behind me. I doubt they'd be able to buy as many chicken McNuggets as I was though, since they're up well over 200% these days.

@Dev-N I think prices will increase, just because everything I think will increase in price. Rather unfortunately I would say, as some people have been struggling as is.

@Dev-N That sounds like terrible advice to be honest. If you are worried about a recession (a reasonable fear), buying an expensive gaming console now just because you can is only setting yourself up for hardship later if those fears of a recession are realized.

The Switch is entering its eighth (or is it ninth?) year. There is no doubt the Switch 2 will still be around long after the man causing all the world’s economic problems is gone. And there’s a far greater chance it will cost less to buy than more (removal of tariffs, reduced price from poor sales or improved cheaper manufacturing, etc).

You do what’s best for you. I personally have a backlog that will last me to the end of my days. What I don’t have is savings that will last that long.

April 24th will be the "Day of Truth" for ALL of those YouTubers, Redditors, Tweeters,etc. that said "I'm not buying one!"

Can't wait to see how all of these naysayers hold up when FOMO starts setting in and stock starts selling out everywhere 😂😅

The price on that all in one carry case was already super expensive, Nintendo is probably making a huge profit on that. Yes, the US tariffs are probably adding some effect, but we are expecting peak Nintendo pride.

@johnvboy This was Nintendo's way to offset any potential tariff price increases. Actually very smart if you think about it. These are all OPTIONAL secondary purchases. And ultimately, like you said, it's "only" by $5.

Meanwhile, System and game prices remain the same 👍

Hey T Stomper! Yes MKW and Fast RMX would be great debut games on your new console! It would be MKW and probably Cyberpunk for me, as I’ve never played it, or maybe just Soul Calibur 2 on NSO.
I’ll be trying to preorder at my local GameStop, too, as the manager there is a stand-up guy and I like giving the local retail stores the business. If I strike out there I’ll fall back on the invite the Nintendo website hopefully sends me in early May.
With my luck, I’ll get a preorder thru GameStop but then Nintendo will invite me later and I’ll feel obligated to buy. If that happens, I’ll just flip one of them at MSRP plus tax, just to cover my costs and make another video gamer happy. 😊

@Not_Soos Thought you made it a point to say you were leaving the site. So much for that. Well regardless, here's hoping you make it a point to stop bringing up politics in your posts going forward. No one cares who you voted for or wants to be told why you voted for who you did.

I always thought there was a buffer in the console price for a 10% tariff or for any "changes in market conditions" despite Nintendo America denying it. A general 10% tariff was telegraphed weeks in advance and might still apply even if all electronics were exempt from the reciprocal ones (I'm not up to date). The $5 increase for most accessories is likely a further buffer against further volatility. Nintendo's attitude is that if you can afford $600 on console, game and controller, then another $5 won't kill you.

As for games, keep dreaming if you think prices might reduce. Again, if you're spending $520 on a console and separate game, you can afford an extra $10. Indeed, games increased by just $10, and that's fair considering the higher costs of game development and a next generation system. Mario Kart World at $80 is actually analogous to Zelda TOTK at $70 on Switch. DK Bonanza at $70 is analogous to the $60 bracket on Switch.

The problem with reducing prices is Nintendo don't want to create consumer resentment for those that bought early. Therefore, prices are locked. Our best hope is not too many games are priced at the premium level like MKW. That Kirby is at that price is clearly ridiculous. For accessories, buy only what's necessary and watch for sales. Big retailers will quickly offer $10 or so off a Pro Controller.

Tariffs are there to open trade negotiations. Which they have done. Yes you can have some stock market turbulence at first but it usually goes back up pretty soon. You act as if the previous administration did no damage whatsoever. Stock markets are rarely the concern of regular folks who can't afford to buy stocks and shares. But day to day items increasing in price due to inflation over the last four years will have a very real impact.

Nintendo did the right thing here. Keep the consoles and games the same price. And up the price of accesories knowing that the retailers can pretty much take the slight increase on the chin after the launch window. Nothing to see here really.

The accessories will come down from the retailers, just wait a little while after launch. I think most peoples priority right now should be securing a pre-order. And if possible the Mario Kart pack.

@Abrammchi The price alone for both Switch 2 standard and Switch 2/MKW is a shocker to some and those with Families this is the consumer they need in the "long-term". It's software that will keep it selling but initial buy-in is what they want - if they want to keep the hardware sales going. I think they will eventually get to 100 mils but not as fast as Switch 1 as that had so many things aka Covid and ACNH that well for better or worse helped it. This time around it's just the console and games prices that will determine the pace of sales after the 1st or up to the 3rd wave of inventory. It's the next year 2026 is when we will really see how fast it grows.

@KITG_GROUP Ah yes, it wasn’t far from my work, picked up a Japanese copy of Panzer Dragoon Zwei from there when it first came out. I used to frequent Advance Console Entertainment a lot too.
