@Bigmanfan I think a majority of people would play it for free. However it seems like the type of game you mess around with for an hour and never play again.

Still time for Nintendo to wise up and make it a free digital title.

If they made it free for expansion pack subscribers, I’d think “That’s greedy, but I get it.” But as it is now, I think very few people will even bother to experience it.

@KidSparta I really hope people don't impulse buy at $10. It will send the wrong message to Nintendo that we want this kind of content. Same with Everybody 1/2 Switch. The first game only sold well because people wanted a second game in what was a lackluster gaming launch outside of BotW.

I'm not a betting man but if I was, I'd bet a tenner that 'Should be free' will be one of the Cons.

The price is a very odd choice, I wouldn't play if it was free either. This just seems really dull and uninspired, if it looked even a little fun maybe I'd give it a look. I've done worse with ten bucks, I mean I did complete Tiny Thor.

Before someone complains, remember that 1-2-Switch exists.

If Oblivion comes to N$2, everyone should be aware that it is close to 125Gb!

On one hand, I really want Nintendo to make more games smaller in scope (like the 3ds eshop games pushmo and Dillion’s rolling western). On the other hand, why is this not a pack in game? I fear that the bean counters will use this games likely low sales to justify the production of nothing but $70+ dollar games.

@SplatRay001 Celeste often goes on sale for five dollars. You can take the other five and get yourself a coffee, which will probably still last longer than the Switch 2 welcome tour.

It's insane that this is a paid "game." It's an over-glorified system manual that won't be played by people after their first run. This is basically Nintendo charging for a tech-demo.

What's funny is that Astro's Playroom was a pack-in tech-demo for the PS5, and that demo felt like it could've been a game easily worth 10 dollars. Insane that Nintendo thinks they can really charge that much for this sort of software when it barely constitutes as a "game."

The minigames do seem underwhelming, the idea is cool the presentation/execution is lacking. It feels like Labo but without the cardboard, a manual but with minigames and effort put in but they didn't want to bundle it at all. I'd consider it in a weird way. I got Night Vision on Switch 1 when it was cheap to just have IR use on the Switch as the games that use it don't interest me. I hate the IR placement anyway but still wanted something to use it with. Wasn't paying $15 but did the $3 or so for it because why not. I usually wouldn't though.

If we were paying for Wii U/3DS/Vita manuals then yeah I'd say no to that as well. But Nintendo knows some people will cover it so why not get money out of it I guess sigh.

It's like paying for Windows XP Tour,, not that you pay for that. Title or execution it is odd.

Some minigames are very basic and barely much too them of backgrounds, gameplay or otherwise to showcase. Even 3DS Lourve is probably better even for being a different type of experience.

Drag n Drive is Arms but not the same personality and to fit almost like a Pilot Wings kind of fit yet Pilot Wings in all entries still has more effort put into it besides being a tech showcase series, then Drag n Drive does of robot wheelchair basketball that is cool but still a bit generic in backgrounds and other things to communicate what it's offering, mouse use or fun factor or not look basketball with a robot and wheelchair twist. It's something but still lacking. It looks fit for tech demo use but a bit lacking and it's identity seems like it will be like Arms, for it's purpose, give up on it later. Kind of sad.

Yeah Face Raiders, Photo Channel, AR, Welcome Park, Playroom, Astro's Playroom, all did a fair job being bundled in with the console and better then Welcome Tour.

To me Everybody 1-2 Switch is only noteable for the smartphone use like Playlink PS4 games were in 2014, otherwise for a 2024 equivalent with some supported smartphone minigame use yeah I don't see much in it other than that.

Same way i think the smartphone focused PS5 tactics RPG is cool for that but is it a must have controller method not really not. Cool but not ideal for most people. It stands out though which is more then I can say for some games lacking gameplay or ideas in them even if gimmicks aren't always great I appreciate them still.

To me Hidden Agenda to me was the only good Playlink game, the rest were generic quiz based party games. Hidden Agenda was like an adventure game with choices and tension and enough to it to be exciting. But whether Until Dawn like or less Tumble (Move or VR) they seemed to capture it with Hidden Agenda the others didn't being so generic for this type of thing.

Kind of like getting a Rhythm Heaven or Elite Beat Agents for Touch Generations on DS, those more gamey exciting ones among the more generic forgettable ones.

I literally don’t know anyone who has actually said they were going to purchase this.

1-2-Switch was fun to play even just for short burst.
Telephone, Wizard, Quick Draw, Flag, etc are my favorite mini games to play.
At least 1-2-Switch have proper gameplay of demonstrating the functionality of Joy Cons and it has physical release.

I can't believe folks are getting hung up over this being a paid game. Especially those who readily admit they wouldn't play it even if it were free. I mean, we ignore games we don't care about all the time. I don't get the hate over this.

@UmbreonsPapa I think the name and premise are what makes this a hard sell. It’s like a door man expecting 10 bucks to greet you with a hello.

Yeah Nintendo's prices aren't holding up well

This pricing puts me off the Switch 2. It makes me weary of entering another Nintendo owned closed ecosystem, where I rely on them not to fix or hike up costs. The launch games on Switch are still $60. Maybe I am too poor to be a Nintendo fan now.

It's weird how Nintendo's been weirdly averse to pack-ins as of late. You'd think after the success of Wii Sports, they'd push hard on that a little more, but no. They're too good to give handouts apparently.

I just can't believe people are upset that people are upset about this. It's like people have minds of their own, its crazy wild stuff!

@UmbreonsPapa it's because tech demos are traditionally free. Makes sense people are concerned. People want to buy Switch 2 but Nintendo needs to be on the same page regarding the value proposition/cost of their products. This is very important when choosing a new console and becoming locked into one console manufacturers marketplace for years.

$10 is the cost of a single fast food meal now. Thats the same as this game, or the extra cost of Mario Kart. One unhealthy meal. One less soda a day for a week. Eat a PBJ, some pasta, some vegetables, rice and beans once or twice a week instead of having McDonald’s delivered and you will have enough to buy the entire Mario Kart bundle by June. And you will feel much better!

@Moistnado I get your point about tech demos. But I think most of the people complaining are clearly experienced and extremely knowledgeable about gaming consoles and how to assess the value of said consoles. I also doubt this game, in the long run, is going to be much of deciding factor for those folks on whether or not they buy a Switch 2. No one is required to buy the game. It isn't required to use the Switch 2. I can't entirely speak for the content of it. But I don't think anyone is going to miss out on anything by not playing the game. So its why I don't really get the hang up over Nintendo charging for it.

@anzzjam On partly an intellectual level, I do agree in that I think its a silly concept to present as a paid game. But I guess that's where my care about it ends. I'll probably be waiting to get a Switch 2 until a bit later. But if I had the opportunity to ever one around launch, the existence of this game and it being a paid game would really be of no significance or concern in the grand scheme of things. I guess that's where I'm experiencing the disconnect over the outrage over it.

@Yoshi3 Yeah this is how I feel. If the game never existed it would have been far better for Nintendo's image than them charging for it.

The amount of people online telling others that they DON’T plan to buy something is pretty comical. Not really this game as much as Switch 2 and Mario Kart. One video on YouTube from a guy that clearly hates Nintendo trying to convince people not to buy Switch 2 has millions of views. Millions will be having a blast enjoying a brand new Mario Kart years and years in the making, when everyone is new to it and on the same skill level…. And that guy will still be yelling into the void acting like he doesn’t have FOMO.

As for this game? I don’t think I’d really play it even if it were free. As many have said, it’s not required for anything, like every video game ever created.

OK serious question since we've beaten this dead horse to dwsth already:

How much of the 256GB will be usable for game storage etc and how much will be taken up by the Switch 2 OS? I haven't seen anything that looks like a lot in way of the OS but you never know.

@UmbreonsPapa i think what makes this game stick out particularly is just the gall to have a tech-demo looking console showcase be paid at all. every reaction ive seen has just been people going "wait you have to pay for that?". at least 1-2 switch was advertised as an actual game

we can chalk it up to "its no big deal" but its still annoying and even disappointing to see how much overcharging is going on with the switch 2 era. not even the smallest of things can be bundled in anymore

Goodwill with the consumer base is worth more than a tenner. Which might be all they get cause there can't be that many fools out there willing to pay for what is essentially a system tutorial.

I think the first two comments sum up why it might actually be smart to not make this a pack-in. The software wouldn’t have been of interest for many, it would have cluttered a clean system. I haven’t played that Sony Astrobot pack-in, but it sounds like that was a free platformer. This is not, it looks very nerdy.

It’s still going to sell fine, I know I’m gonna download it out of interest. 10€ is not bad.

If it was 1-5 euros, maybe I would buy it, but 10+ nope! I would gladly view it in youtube and that's it.

PS5 set the bar high with the Astro's Playroom. Free, full fledged game.
Imagine a 3 hour 3D Mario game as a pack in title with every Switch 2. The console would sell like hot cakes. Instead, on top of the console price we have to pay 10 dollars for a handful of minigames.
Even the visual presentation looks dull.
They dropped the ball on this one, hard.

There was the apperature desk job for Deck which was fun too and they got J.K. Simmons in to voice, that would have cost. I'm not angry or anything, just left baffled and confused by the decision

I do agree that this being paid is dumb but why do people call it a tutorial or manual for the console?
From everything I saw about this it looks more like a collection of fun facts about how the console works under the hood that only tech nerds would care about

I am absolutely going to buy this. And honestly this is more exciting to me than games like 1-2 Switch...

Guys who wants this to be a pack in.. what if they increased the price of the Switch 2 by $5 to make this game a pack in. Would you still be happy? Because that is how it works. Even with Wii Sports on the Wii, or Nintendoland on the Wii U Premium. Or Astro's Playroom on the PS5. You always pay for it.

Also it's not a manual. It's a tech demo. And those aren't always free. It is to showcase the features of the Switch 2 and how those features are designed. The system will ofcourse still have a free manual in the box.

I’m one of the very few here but I played this at the switch 2 experience and I really enjoyed it , it would have been nice for this to be a freebie …absolutely! However given the fact it’s going to be the one of the cheapest of the launch games I don’t have any issue with the actual price and will be getting this on launch day .

@Sylamp It has minigames too. The main problem is Nintendo messed up in US/Europe by naming it Welcome Pack which DOES make it sound like a tutorial. The Japanese name is Exhibition of Nintendo Switch 2 Secrets.

Good point to be fair. I would need to see a review of this to be totally convinced. It would have been nice to offer this free for expansion pack members. But I much prefer the the Zelda upgrades to be honest.

The multi-billion dollar Nintendo corporation could absolutely offer the Switch 2 at the same price with this collection of 2002-era flash browser games pre-installed/as a free download. They're already raising the cost of their hardware, accessories and games over the previous gen.

It's even a stretch to call it a tech demo. Asking £10 to spot the difference between 20fps and 120fps or learn how a mouse works?

Free does not exist, Nintendo had to assign / hire people to make it, those people got paid for making it. That is what you are paying for. Sure Nintendo could lower their profit on the Switch 2 hardware (which, I guess, is already not that high) by making it a pack in. But that is going to hurt them in the end with the increasing cost of these days.

Also it doesn't matter how much a company is worth. If the shareholders aren't happy even a "multi billion dollar" company can go bankrupt.

You're the one arguing that it's a positive thing that that they are charging for it otherwise the price of the console would cost more for all of us. I simply disputed that that should ever be the case.

No one knows how fun the minigames scattered inside this Welcome Tour really are and yet I see people already complaining that it should be free.

I have a feeling that the complaints are due to the fact that the title is just 9.99$ and thus that people feel that the tour is "cheap" and therefore not worth spending on. At the same time, many people complain that Nintendo never lowers the prices of their games because they don't want to show that they are "losing value".

If my feeling is right, then I don't want to feed this vicious circle and instead I'm willingly going to pay for the Welcome Tour. If I find any reason to complain then I will later.
